Rangers Weighing-Up Town Windass Bid - Reports
Wednesday, 8th Aug 2018 08:49

Scottish reports claim Rangers are weighing-up a bid of £1.2 million from Town for forward Josh Windass.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Blues had made an offer of £2 million but according to various reports this morning an initial £1.2 million is on the table with the Gers trying to negotiate a substantial sell-on clause.

TWTD can confirm there something in the claims of Town interest in Windass, who coincidentally previously played for Accrington where another Blues target Kayden Jackson is currently a player and from where Janoi Donacien was signed last week.

It seems more likely Town would look to sign both Jackson, who is believed to be joining the Blues for an initial £1.5 million, and Windass given the lower fees now being quoted. Joe Garner's potential exit to Bolton would also add to the available funds.

Windass, who is 5ft 9in tall, is appears more of a direct replacement for Martyn Waghorn, who is set to join Derby this morning, than Jackson. He would presumably either play wide or as a number 10 for Town.

Born in Hull, Windass started his career in Huddersfield’s youth set-up before dropping into non-league with Harrogate Railway Athletic prior to moving on to Accrington and then Rangers in 2016.

The son of former Tiger Dean, Windass has scored 19 goals in 57 starts and 14 sub appearances at Ibrox and signed a new contract which runs to 2021 in February. All bar one of his Rangers goals came last season.

@sheffieldtractor - voted wrong way sorry dude I totally agree ... Great business being done by the club to turn injury prone players and players into profits to reinvest in the squad. Surely all these signings wages won't be as much as mcgoldrick hyam wagjown and Webster's all added together ? Great work this and means that we still comply with the FFP

Mick got the funds, he chose to spend them on higher wages for all those proven championship players so many are craving.

The playing budget is the playing budget. Manager decides how he wants to use it

More excited at the prospect of this one than Jackson..hope we don't miss out for the sake of a couple of hundred extra thousand or so.

That's not fair. Those of us who have advocated for bringing in a proven Championship striker, such as Bradshaw, have not been looking for a continuation of the Mick McCarthy style of business. I can't speak for everyone of course , although it's the sense I got from many, is that we're delighted to be bringing in young hungry players who have done well in the lower leagues - I've been calling for just that for years - BUT it is wise to have a good balance of youth & experience in a squad and if a decent player who is proven at Championship level like Tom Bradshaw (not some aging mercenary type) is available, I would be very happy to see him sign for us.
Jackson and Harrison may well hit the ground running & become legends for the club over time, but equally they might take time adjusting. Waghorn and Garner had quite an immediate impact last season & that will be hard to replace in a very important area of the field. It's somewhat disingenuous to suggest that those of us who said we would like Ipswich to bring in someone (not a whole team of signings) with proven Championship experience were calling for "all those proven championship players ... on higher wages" that Mick brought in.
And another thing, surely this morning is a time for optimism rather than dragging up old discussions in order to score points.

Good to see all these new signings, I hope PH gets a couple of seasons to really push on with this team and take us forward.

BTW I hated Mad Muiks last 2 year's BUT his buying and improving Waghorn has allowed PH to rebuild.

Very happy with what's happening at our football club !! Lots of positive deals at the right level of spending!! I think Mick should take a bit of credit as he signed the players we are now able to sell on for decent money and give the new manager the backing he's currently getting!!
Let's hope it all works!!

Bit surprised about this good things happening at Ibrox with Stevie G at the moment but maybe he doesn't mind losing Windass...
