Jackson Expected at Town Today to Complete Move
Wednesday, 8th Aug 2018 10:57

Kayden Jackson is expected at Portman Road today to undergo his medical and complete the formalities relating to his move to the Blues. The move is likely to be confirmed either today or tomorrow morning.

News that Town and Accrington Stanley had finally agreed a deal for the striker broke earlier this morning.

The fee for Jackson, who scored 16 goals as Accrington won the League Two title last season having joined from Barnsley last summer, is slightly above the £1.5 million reported earlier and could rise to around £2 million after top-ups, while there will also be a sell-on clause. The Tykes will receive 30 per cent of the profit Stanley make on the player they signed for a nominal fee.

Blues boss Paul Hurst has been tracking the 24-year-old, who previously played for him on loan at Grimsby, for a number of weeks.

TWTD reported that Town had offered £1.5 million early last week but with Accrington valuing Jackson at £2.5 million. Negotiations continued, however, and it appears an agreement was finally reached yesterday.

QPR and Peterborough were also in the hunt for Jackson, while Saturday’s opponents Rotherham and Preston were also both keen earlier in the summer.

Bradford-born Jackson started his professional career with Swindon following success in a 2013 Win a Pro Contract competition run by Samsung when a player with Albion Sports in the Northern Counties East League Division One.

While with the Robins, he had spells on loan at Swindon Supermarine and Oxford City, prior to stints with Tamworth, Wrexham and Barnsley before his loan with Grimsby and his permanent switch to his current club last summer.

Jackson is likely to become Hurst’s ninth signing of the summer with Toto Nsiala and Jon Nolan’s switches from Shrewsbury expected to be confirmed this morning following the additions of Trevoh Chalobah, Jordan Roberts, Ellis Harrison, Janoi Donacien, Gwion Edwards and Tayo Edun.

Let's hope he doesn't drive through Derby because Frank Lampard is short of a few strikers.

Looks good in the You Tube clips and if Mowbray rates him (see earlier post on TWTD) then that's good enough for me..... Welcome to iTFC

£1.5 million for a player that scored 16 goals last year in the 4th tier of English football!

What a crazy world we live in!

However, excellent to see Paul Hurst's judgement being backed by the chairman.

Agreed, he is thus far only spending the money he is recouping but no one can deny the sense of optimism and positivity around the ground before k.o Saturday.

Actually 'wanting' to get to matches. Not felt that for a couple of years.

It's going to take a while for the fans to return in large numbers after years of stagnation but should the team live up to it's promise and results go well, attendances will soon be on the up.

Looking forward to proudly stating
"I'm an Ipswich fan" with a smile on my face opposed to mumbling the fact whilst looking at my feet.

Exciting times.

Excellent news, would expect him to pick up the #9 shirt now Waghorn has got his dream move. See that Toto has got #22 so does that mean Tilt will wear #5 if we get him?

Got to hand it to Paul Hurst. This will be very much his team and he's got it together in a remarkably short time. He will now succeed or fail by his own efforts, not with anyone else's cast-offs. It's a brave approach and I wish him well. COYB!

Couple of seasons ago, Pitman wasn't getting in our team. Now our forward line will be lead by unproven lower league forwards who are not as good as Pitman is now.
I'm worried, this isn't a negative, it's a worry.
