Jackson Arrives at Town as Blues Close in on Ninth Signing
Wednesday, 8th Aug 2018 13:57

Kayden Jackson has arrived at Town to undergo his medical and complete the formalities relating to his £1.6 million move from Accrington Stanley, TWTD understands. The switch is expected to be confirmed either later today or tomorrow morning.

News that Town and Accrington Stanley had finally agreed a deal for the striker broke earlier this morning.

The fee for Jackson, who scored 16 goals as Accrington won the League Two title last season having joined from Barnsley last summer, is an initial £1.6 million, potentially rising to around £2 million after top-ups, while there will also be a sell-on clause. The Tykes will receive 30 per cent of the profit Stanley make on the player they signed for a nominal fee.

Blues boss Paul Hurst has been tracking the 24-year-old, who previously played for him on loan at Grimsby, for a number of weeks.

TWTD reported that Town had offered £1.5 million early last week but with Accrington valuing Jackson at £2.5 million. Negotiations continued, however, and it appears an agreement was finally reached yesterday.

QPR and Peterborough were also in the hunt for Jackson, while Saturday’s opponents Rotherham and Preston were also both keen earlier in the summer.

Bradford-born Jackson started his professional career with Swindon following success in a 2013 Win a Pro Contract competition run by Samsung when a player with Albion Sports in the Northern Counties East League Division One.

While with the Robins, he had spells on loan at Swindon Supermarine and Oxford City, prior to stints with Tamworth, Wrexham and Barnsley before his loan with Grimsby and his permanent switch to his current club last summer.

Jackson will become Hurst’s ninth signing of the summer following confirmation of Toto Nsiala and Jon Nolan’s switches from Shrewsbury this morning and the previous additions of Trevoh Chalobah, Jordan Roberts, Ellis Harrison, Janoi Donacien, Gwion Edwards and Tayo Edun.

@TractorBoyTommy The votes on your first comment currently stands at -37. I think that is fair justification for saying you are behind.

Regarding your other points, I can't comment on what anyone else has said to you, however, in no way have I got blue-tinted glasses on. If you visit the Forum you will have noticed on a couple of threads I have commented that whilst I am pleased we have signed Jackson, I think Donacien is a really poor signing. I've been watching Accrington regularly for 3 years so am reasonably well placed to comment on both of them.

If I had 'blue-tinted' glasses on, why would I be negative regarding Donacien's signing?

This is the busiest transfer market we've ever had and to be honest he's been making his money to spend? We have got rid of players that weren't good enough to get us into the top 10 and this lot look like they can play on the floor football and not MM HOOF BALL and run football let's see how we are by end of September then all start making stupid comments. In the mean time things look very healthy to start the new season with!!! COYB!!

@didsburyblue lets be honest when people like theinbetweener and itfckal are marking down my comments who maybe have half a brain cell between them at a push then cant really make judgment on that. If Rranger and Singblue have marked me down then I can accept that as they have made valued points which I agree with.

I would say 90% of the comments I have received all suggest that everyone signing we have made will be great and will no doubt be a success in the championship. Unfortunatley this will not be the case and with your experience with Donacien it doesnt look like he will (lets hope he proves both of us wrong). When I suggest otherwise I get down marked and abused by so called town fans.

Looks to have pace and seems to be a bit of a poacher.
It will be a big step up from the level he has been playing at but let's give the lad a chance

He looks a great player & a good find from hirst. Causes defenders a headache when gets in behind & a good finisher which is what we want. Be a great signing 😁

@tractorboytommy God your a boring grass sole. How about instead of commenting the SAME thing on every single post, boring the life out of everyone with your negativity, why dont you just start your own post after every time we sign a lower league player. That way we can choose to not read it over and over and over and over and enjoy reading other peoples opinions because we already know yours. Thanks

@TractorBoyTommy Sunderland had a host of Premier League experience in their squad last season.

Funnily enough, the "league experience" of your players doesn't guarantee the league you'll play in next season!

Tractorboytommy if you find the so called abuse you get to hot to handle then just stop posting your repetitive comments like yourself the ex manager(whatisname?) reeled out the same old same old every time interviewed(proper bloke etc coupled with foul language) and that is the reason he got abuse, and he's gone now!!!

Tractor boy tommy

I can see your point but personally am excited with the new additions. Would you prefer to see the same old stagnant football that we have been seeing for the past few years or embrace the changes and see where it takes us. Let's give the new lads a chance and moan if it goes wrong. I think they have done a great job this window

Tractor Boy Tommy. Abuse? Stop being so delicate! The truth is, of course, that nobody knows. You might be right, you might be wrong. But while we don't know, why not try and enjoy being an Ipswich fan. If you can't sense the excitement about the place, then I really feel sorry for you. Plenty of time to be on a downer if it all goes pear shaped, so have a go at the old optimism thing - it's great fun!

Until we genuine town fans ignore the ex managers disciples(where is swn98 by the way) this site is going to be like a school playground, rise above them guys and let's enjoy the ride we are going on this season and in the future with our new fast moving team and manager what a breath of fresh air there is around our club it's great!!! while the team gels and buys into Pauls requirements we will of course have set backs but at least we are at last going to see positive fast moving progress, I feel Chambers is going to be a key figure(re his leadership qualities on and off the field being the link between the boys and manager) his game time could be limited when the side settles but at the minute his contribution is needed on the field as are his communication skills, and he will have plenty of fast legs around him(just in case he is found wanting) while doing so, all in all the future is looking very bright for true Ipswich fans C.O.Y.B.

That's it, it's the relentless negativity. You don't like the plan we get it.

Every post the same , every time someone posts a list of all the players who do have league experience still at the club... agree to disagree and offer something, anything more constructive. Or perhaps tell us who you think the club should have signed? Appointed?

PR has been a dire place to be. Bad football yes, but I still think some abuse handed out to both manager and players last year was out of order. It was toxic.

But that's past, a new man, new players, new hope so let's enjoy that whilst it lasts.... might be over in month or we might be singing football's comming home come May.

Luckydiddy, good informative post, but I seem to recall we signed the great Big Al from Blackburn and what a player he turned out to be a true Town legend

therein61 added 18:36 - Aug 8
Re my above post while I stand corrected I believe Blackburn had slipped down to the old div3 at the time we signed Big Al who made the step up without any problem and the results were for all to see he was the subject of a few bids to get him away but he was always and still is a Town legend, So "tractorboytommy" stick that where the sun don't shine re your repetitive futile posts.

Geminimustang seriously? We were never getting promoted playing micks long ball and run football? Plus money has been used that has been made and one thing mick couldn't do was put together a team without his favourites being in the team to so players didn't get used in correct positions to start with plus micks football was tosh....
