No Tenth Signing Before Deadline
Thursday, 9th Aug 2018 19:08

Town were unsuccessful in their late attempt to sign AFC Wimbledon skipper Deji Oshilaja, TWTD understands.

The Blues were hoping to add another centre-half to their squad before this evening’s 5pm deadline but were unable to get the deal to sign Oshilaja done.

That’s unlikely to be the end of the story with EFL clubs able to recruit players on loan from tomorrow and it’s likely that Town will look to try to bring in the 25-year-old on that basis, then potentially make the switch permanent in January. Charlton are also believed to have made an approach for Londoner Oshilaja.

The Blues are short of centre-halves at present with Luke Woolfenden out for six weeks with a knee injury.

Oshilaja was with Cardiff’s youth set-up during which time he spent spells on loan at Newport, Sheffield Wedneday and Gillingham. He joined Wimbledon last summer and was handed the skipper’s armband ahead of this campaign.

Town ended the window having made nine additions, loanees Trevoh Chalobah, Tayo Edun and Janoi Donacien (whose loan will become a full-time switch once his permanent leave to remain is confirmed) and permanent signings Ellis Harrison, Gwion Edwards, Jon Nolan, Toto Nsiala, Kayden Jackson and Jordan Roberts.

Not too fussed with this. 9 signings is far more than expected. This 10th felt a little rushed and with the loan window still open we can still bring in on loan to buy in January. COYB!!!

Relatively happy with the business overall but definitely feels like we missed the opportunity to put the icing on the cake today.

I've had a moan about what we didn't get in the transfer window, think I got a bit greedy

Carter-Vickers back or even Tilt in on loan & all will be right with the world.

Little doubt that this has been an excellent window.

Yet if Garner rumours can be believed we end up with just two strikers and two centre backs at the club. Let's hope we secure two quick loans with view to permanent deals.

All in all a well pleasing T.W, shame we could not add another CB. Now with the benefit of hindsight (transfer wise) taking that gamble on the early bird season card was money well spent, a whooping £381, YES £381!! Cheap as chips me thinks (lol)

Quite an exciting window, but I agree with Len, Carter-Vickers or Curtis Tilt on loan would be great.

Im not saying Tilt isnt a good player as i dont know much about him. But dont get the constant calls from some that hes so great and we need to sign him. Howvmany of those calling for him have actually seen him play? And i dont mean a 30 second video of his best bits which tells u nothing really. He may well be a very good player but who knows really until we were to see him.

Think we need a Championship experienced centre half, so not bothered about this one.
Would be great to get CCV back but PH may not want him or he may be involved in the Spurs final squad.

Overall a very good window so well done to all. Yes we need a CB but there will be plenty of opportunities till the 31st particularly now the PL sides know what there dealing with. The fact Tottenham didn't lose alderweireld every chance Carter Vivkees could be available. Equally there will be options for loans with permanent deals in January

Phew! Must be a record number of transfers for ITFC! At least we can now all focus again on Saturday and wonder how on earth PH is going to select 11 out of that lot!

Fair do''s to Wigan getting Windas and Connelly (loan) I would have been happy to have both here.

Blackpool have signed Donervon Daniels (CB) today, released by Wigan, possibly an opening for Tilt to be brought in on loan, would solve CB issues, although would be pleased with CCV.

It's been 1 of the Best windows in recent years: signing young hungry lower league players who will be grateful for the chance to play at championship level! It's going to take time to get everyone up to speed & relationships to build, once everyone is Fit we have a decent squad, Hurst will clearly get a defender on loan & if Garner has gone another forward: if we finish around mid-table playing a better style of football & showing their hope for the following season then that's all we can ask: Top 6 is beyond us in my opinion: I just wanna leave Portman Rd having watched something where I enjoyed it! We had a go & tried to win: I'm realistic in my expectations on where we can finish: if we're in Top 10 by New Year I'd say that's a real achievement & maybe we could surprise people: if we can finally beat Norwich that would be great: let's all give Hurst time, as he has proved in all his jobs he does improve teams:

Could be opportunity for Hurst to try out Knudsen at CB again. I'm his strongest position.

Blues 1, exactly what I have been saying about any of the signings we have made. Lots of ppl commenting that we must get in this player or that and they never even seen them play!!

I am excited about the Jackson signing. However, I have never seen him play so can't say he is this or that until I do..

To be honest Janoi can play centre back, so can Spence & Knudsen, we still have full backs to cover them in Emmanuel & Kenlock. Be good to have another cb but not to worry just yet.
9 players in is very good, well done Paul Hurst!
