Town Hopeful of Finally Landing Tilt This Week - Report
Sunday, 26th Aug 2018 09:50

Town boss Paul Hurst reportedly hopes to finally land Blackpool centre-half Curtis Tilt this week ahead of Friday’s loan deadline.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the Blues are hopeful that their lengthy pursuit of the 27-year-old will come to a successful conclusion this week for a reported fee of £1 million. The move would be an initial loan with the deal made permanent in January.

Town have been chasing Tilt all summer with bids of up to £800,000 previously rebuffed by the Seasiders, who have been determined to get the top price possible for their prized asset.

Tilt, who has a year left on his contract at Bloomfield Road but with the Tangerines having an option for a further season, was left out of the Blackpool team which drew 1-1 at home to Accrington yesterday but interim-boss Terry McPhillips said the former Wrexham man was left out as a fitness precaution.

“Tilty played three games in a week and he reported in today a bit tight, so we didn’t want to take the chance,” he told the Blackpool Gazette.

“I think he’s just tight all over. Obviously he missed the game at the start of the season but since then he’s played three. The last thing we want is for him to go pop, so that was the decision.”

Quizzed on whether he expected Tilt’s exit this week, McPhillips added: “Not to my knowledge, we’ll see. No one has told me anyway. As far as I know he is our player.”

Tilt, who is understood to have handed in a transfer request, was spotted talking to McPhillips along with his agent after yesterday’s match.

Asked whether Tilt being left out by Blackpool was related to Town’s interest after yesterday’s match at Sheffield Wednesday, Hurst responded: “I don’t know. I think I had a similar question at the start of the season. I don’t know.

“I’m surprised he hasn’t played that’s all I would say having played the last couple of games and kept clean sheets. Unless there’s an injury I’m not aware of it seems an odd decision.”

However, he confirmed Tilt is a player he remains interested in: “Yes, I’m not going to change my mind and think he’s suddenly a bad player or anything but he’s one of the players [I’m interested in], no secret.

“I don’t particularly like speaking about other players but it’s out there but it’s been discussed numerous times already.”

Blues boss Hurst wants three loanees before Friday, a central defender, a striker and a left-sided winger.

There are very good players in the lower leagues, that easily step up to the Championship and Premiership. Looks like we may have found a couple so far. Whole team with strong mental strength for 95 minutes and a full season, and we're there :-)

All these 'lower peague' players that people are moaning about. They must be amazed that Leicester won the Prem with a non- league centre-forward!

Seriously Fatboy?? ''Hurst didn't have the funds to pay £1m until the Waghorn deal went through'' - really!?!...even though we have a millionaire owner who knew Waghorn would soon be sold for x amount and he would eventually be in profit.

Face facts Evans was penny pinching and didn't want to go that extra 150k...looks like we'll have him on loan now (at least it will be cheaper paying his wages than buying him outright, hey Marcus).

Advice to PH - once Tilty comes in switch to 3 at the back, get our wing backs pushing forward. It worked last season under MM and sealed up our defence. Also Burleys superb play off winners.

Should seal up our defence, stop those goals conceded from dead ball kicks and move us up the table. It worked for MM last season with CVV in and for Burleys superb play off winning team

Yeah laughable really! So our owner wouldn't sub him a million out of his fortune?!! That's also why we lost out on Windass. It baffles me how people can't see the terrible malignant impact on our club Evans has

If he comes on board then this is good news. Like Martin said on another page we are losing to many goals to set pieces, which is a concern. It will be interesting to see who he replaces should he sign. From what I've witnessed this season Chambers has looked commanding on the pitch and has settled into the new system better than I expected (I'm not his biggest fan) but I like the look of Nsiala, so would probably go with the more youthful latter.

Phew, Tilt is finally coming to Portman Road. Everyone has seen the 90 second YouTube clip and now he's the new Alan Hansen! What a coup it will be if we get him, beating the plethora of clubs after his signature. I'm sure the lad is half decent, but he was to drop Chambers, we'll have two CB's with no Championship experience. Forgive me for not getting too excited.

I've said previously one or two players from lower leagues can be integrated into the squad but this is too many.

If we are to struggle for the next couple of season, which appears to suit a few on here, we may as well struggle with our own homegrown players. Dozzell, Downes, Nydam, Morris, Flame, Woolfenden, Cotter, Drinnan, Crowe etc etc.... are the players we have signed any better? Maybe potentially but sure those mentioned previously have potential? Or maybe PH likes to surround himself with players he is comfortable with, from lower level?

Great news. Tilt is a very good CB.

However, we need at least one striker and another player who can score goals. The current squad lacks goals and to an extent creativity.

I don't understand why people are saying it should have happened earlier, we don't no the other side of the story. At the time Blackpool had said that he was not for sale so I don't know why people are blaming ME.

We don't know for sure how much they were asking before the deadline and we don't know for sure how much the offer has changed. Pointless moaning about it now. If it gets done then good.

if it happens, a lot of people are putting a lot of faith in another player that has not played at this level, that in turn equates to a lot of pressure on the player.

Some of our transfer dealings are akin to a mouse giving birth to an elephant! But PH clearly rates Tilt, and getting in another specialist CB - whether an immediate starter or cover - has to be a top priority. So let's hope we can get this one over the line ASAP, so he can get stuck in to some days solid training. Something PH must welcome for the whole squad, as a chance to address issues at both ends, and work at getting the whole squad to understand what he's trying to achieve. Still not sure that all of them have got it, or do enough to make it work.

Swn98 - I see you have resorted to insults by calling me a name.
But if you don't have anything constructive to say then it's best to keep your fingers off your key pad and put them where the sun doesn't shine.

You all seem mostly forgotten the fact this is the oyston clan we are dealing with shifting goal posts at last minute and all that no doubt,I for one don,t think we will go down, but it could be a tough time.
