Nydam Set for St Johnstone Loan
Monday, 27th Aug 2018 09:15

Town midfielder Tristan Nydam is close to joining Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone on loan.

The Scottish Sun reported that the Saints had made a move for the 19-year-old overnight and TWTD understands that the deal, which will run to January, is expected to be concluded in the next few days ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Blues manager Paul Hurst said earlier this month that he had talked with the England U19 international, who returned to training after a minor quad injury last week, about going out on loan in order to gain senior experience: “I’ve spoken to Tristan and that’s something we’ve had a conversation about.”

Nydam has made 14 starts and six sub appearances for the Blues first team having come through the academy.

The Zimbabwe-born, Colchester-raised youngster has not featured for Town this season.

So frequently we ask the questions about our Academy products ,at least on this forum ,it would seem perhaps we ought to " confront "PH and CD to obtain their views and personal commitments to the educating and blooding of ' our own ' .
Certainly it's frustrating to find what appear perfectly good youngsters being farmed out ; at what stage , if ever , shall we see them really given a chance ?
Only our management team can answer & we look forward to a comprehensive discussion to hopefully set the scene for future introductions , and for us to grasp the whole policy of management for the rest of this season . Thus far were living on hope and trust ,with next to no goals to change our prospects ( despite some really good play & football ) .
Up the Blues !

Certainly not against him going elsewhere to gain experience. However, he has experience at this level, which is more can be said for Chalobah and Edun.

I'd personally play him and a Dozzell in OUR team.

I'm confident he will shine through up there and then PH will realise what he's missing in his midfield....I say this because our trio of youngsters played very well against West Ham and made their midfield look ordinary at times. It's disappointing to see this happening again especially when Mr Evans took his time recruiting a manager that matched one of his five key criteria as ITFC boss and that is to play and develop the younger players in the 1st team. He's brought in Chalobah and Egun in midfield and prefers them to our own!?? Fair enough theyve had a positive impact on the team and have scored goals but PH seems to be pushing our finest young players to one side just like the previous lot did. I want to see the trio of Downes, Nydam and Bish have a run in the team this season. Especially Downes who I consider to be a premier league player in waiting :) #rantover

A few lines from a St Johnstone fan I work with,

Our manager is good at developing players, improving their work rate & attitude so the experience will do him the world of good

It's only a good move for him because he's not getting games here. I think he should at least be on the bench at the moment but if bishop and Huws are fit we'd have scuse, Chalobah, downes, Nolan, Ward, Dozzell plus them fighting for 3 spots so I doubt Nydam would get a look in.... plus Adeyemi might get fit one day soon

Daley - maybe you could give us some insight into the players who are “utter crap”?

Decent loan striker/s and defender required urgently in my opinion, not many more days to go.

I personally have Dozzell, Nydam and Downes in the first team squad at all times. Our 3 most talented youngsters for a while and they don't even get a peep at the first team squad. With Dozzell not near for why can't he play 20-30 minutes coming of the bench. Then build up from there. Downes I feel is definitely ready to start and Nydam gets 45mins. If they aren't playing at championship level then how are they going to learn. I can see a Ben Knight situation happening hear.

Scunny Did you think that way about club's reserves playing when Fraser, Lawrence, CCV and Jonny Williams were playing so well for us?

If PH isn't going to put him in the starting XI then he is better off playing first team football elsewhere than in the u23s.

Anyone that thinks the SPL isn't good enough, Nydam's first 5 games could be: Aberdeen, Rangers, Celtic, Hearts, Celtic. Three of those have played in Europe this season and the other is top of the league.

If he gets regular game time it will feel like a new signing when he comes back in January.

I struggle with this tbh, and indeed our wider loan strategy. Loans are great for filling gaps in the squad where we need bodies and game changers - we have seen Williams, Fraser and Lawrence do this in recent years (let us not forget Mahon and Reuser in the more dim and distant past). This season we have brought in loan players where we have bodies and (at a minimum) potential...
Edun and Chalobah will develop over the season and then go back to their parent clubs, whilst we lose control of the development of our youngsters. DazC wrote an interesting blog about this being a long term project, and not just about this season (which I can get behind, even if I fear relegation substantially more than some seem to)...our loan strategy makes one wonder whether that is the view within the club...

@lighting blue I couldn't agree more with you :)

@Sm00411; Downes, Bish and Nydam are creative hungry talent in our squad and right now we need these types of players....I'd dare say that Downes would do a better job of linking up with our front line and giving them the supply we need rather playing Nolan. #enuffsaid

Beckham: Man Utd to Preston

Ferdinand & Defoe: West Ham to Bournemouth

Kane: Tottenham to several clubs

Numerous to us (inc the likes of Gio / Noble)

They and many others all sent out on loan to a) take them out of their “home” / comfort zone, b) give them greater experience on and off the pitch or c) feeeze them out because they weren't wanted and there was no interest in developing them as people and players?

Those of you criticising the club for sending out players on loan are invited to ponder this.

@mrmorisato

You misread my comment. I think all three are great players. In fact, right now I'd be playing Downes ahead of Skuse because he's better at retaining the football and he still puts himself about.

The fact is, it doesn't matter what I think. If PH isn't going to pick Nydam for whatever reason, which is evident, he is better off playing in the SPL than the u23s.

@PragmaticBlue One can list specific examples of pretty much anything. I personally don't believe arguing from "the specific to the general" is a robust or logical process, but you are welcome to your view.
To my mind, where the Nydam loan fundamentally differs to your examples (in the same way the Emmanuel/Iorfa loan did last season) is we are bringing in loan players that we will never keep, who are only marginally (if at all) better than our youngsters that we are shipping out, to replace said youngsters. I don't see the logic in doing that.

This is truly insane and so sad to see people who are allegedly Town fans saying marooning a player in a Scottish backwater with more Championship experience than ALL Hurst's signings and his useless loans put together is somehow good for him rather than a substanital kick in the teeth for the player, the academy and all homegrown players currently on the club's books.. As someone else has said if quite promising players are never given a chance and rubbish signed in aheasd of them or loaned in - then the academy ays as well be scrapped. BUT Town are now reduced to touting schoolkids which occasionally brings in a £1million windfall.

Guthrum added 18:37 - Aug 27
He's 19 years old, just out of the Academy, has only a dozen senior team starts under his belt (with no goals) and you lot want to make him the mainstay of our attacking midfield? Instead of Nolan, who has played in well over 200 fixtures? Instead of Chalobah, regarded as a rising star by Chelsea, tournament Captain of England U19s, scored the equaliser against Villa? Instead of Edun, capped by England at every level from U17 to U20, scored the equaliser against Blackburn?

Send Nydam out on loan, gain some experience against Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Motherwell and the like, come back a better player who can be really useful to us in the future, either later this season or the next one.

Oh dear Mick was vilified for not giving the youngsters a chance,I thought that's why our great new messiah was engaged to build a team around the youth how mistaken one can be.

Good move for him. First team football and some hugh experience for him against Rangers & Celtic. Playing abroad will move him out of his comfort zone.
Regards Skuse, Nydam isn't a natural replacement in the holding midfield role, Downes is a better bet, plus with Huws, Bish & Dozzell close to returning, Tristan will find games hard to come by.
Good luck Tristan

The team that started last year at Palace(which I did attend unlike most of the naysayers of the news site)was far superior to our current first team why send them out play them or get rid.

I have seen St. Johnstone three times over the last three seasons and they are a very tidy and tactically disciplined team, should do Nydam good. And a bit more convenient trip to Perth for me to see a town player...who will not have a grubby betting logo on their shirt.

The point most of the ‘can't understanders' seem to be missing is that if they are good enough they will play. Who better than a manager with all the info and data to decide that.
Dozza will be nailed on when he's fully fit, clues in the scan he had which flagged up a minor defect after a very serious injury is the reason he's not in the squad. There's a world of difference between playing in a under 23's knock around than a full blown championship game so I'm pleased he's being managed proper.
Downes is gradually being given minutes as were a couple of our young defenders, so if our young players are being loaned out they simply ain't ready.
It's quite simple if you can be assed to pay attention to what's been said, and maybe a little understanding of football might also help. Just saying (lol)

Bottom of the League and some strange moves, and decisions being made - not at all convinced about some of Paul Hurst's most recent.
Has to be casting some doubts amongst others also, I just hope he knows what he is doing - otherwise the lower leagues will be beckoning sooner rather than later - hopefully not taking us with him ..... !!

I retain the faith, but have to admit to some concern - even as early as this.
