Emmanuel Joins Shrews on Loan
Friday, 31st Aug 2018 17:06

Town right-back Josh Emmanuel has joined League One Shrewsbury on a season-long loan.

Emmanuel spent 2017/18 on loan with Rotherham in the same division and featured for the Millers in their play-off final victory over the Shrews, then managed by Paul Hurst in May.

The 21-year-old seemed unlikely to play much football for Town this season with Janoi Donacien and Jordan Spence ahead of him in the pecking order.

Emmanuel has made 19 starts and five sub appearances for the Blues.

The former West Ham schoolboy is contracted to Town until next summer with the club having an option to keep him for a further campaign.

The Blues can cut short the loan in January if Emmanuel is required at Portman Road.

I really do rate Emmanuel. I'm surprised that PH doesn't. Personally I'd have him as cover before Spence. Still, good move for the lad if he's not going to get a kick for us.

Agree with jackstead. Better than Spence in my books always played well.

Both Mick , sorry about the M word, and Paul rate Spence above Emmanuel . So i suppose we will have to trust their judgement.

Will enjoy watching him down the Meadow,...when not watching the blues of course!

I thought Emmanuel would knock on the first team door this season, but with the emergence of Donacien who I personally rate very highly, it's the smart move. Josh needs game time, so this will benefit him more.

Spence believe it or not was second behind Bart on MOTM awards on this site last season, so was he that bad? was it all all preordained that one of our players would be loaned out to Shrewsbury?

Would have liked to have seen Emmanuel stay here this season, he looked better than the Shrews boys here in the play-off final.

Think this is the end Josh he can do a job for us especially as a wingback and did ok playing leftback if I remember. Seems Hurst don't fancy some of our promising youngsters?

Obviously PH doesn't rate him all that much. He's had a season's (wasn't it) loan already, so if he isn't ready now, I doubt he ever will be (at least for those with the decision to make). Don't expect to see Emmanuel turning out for Town again, to be honest.

Agree with those who think he's better than Spence. Very disappointing none of the youngsters seem to have been given a chance.

If I seem to recall correctly Jordan Spence's contract will be up at the end of the season as well, alongside Jonas Knudsen. I don't think Jordan will have his contract renewed but for the time being provides versatile backup in more than one position. Donacien played left back for a while for Accrington so also provides versatility. Given all this then it does seem to make sense sending Josh out on loan only to improve further and get more experience at which point he could still end up being a valuable member of our squad next year and be offered a new contract.

Think he's good enough to play for town tbh but hurst/McCarthy who see him in training etc obviously think differently

Shame he couldn't have gone back to Rotherham on loan again so he could've proved he could do it at championship level

Good luck Josh! Good move for him and he can get another season under his belt and hopefully come back ready for the next season!

I like him but he's young and does make mistakes, lets hope with the experience he gets there he can cut them out of his game and come back to really challenge for a starting place :-)

Why is it that most on here seem to disagree with every decision made by the management of ITFC?
