Town Maintaining Collins Interest
Saturday, 1st Sep 2018 22:25

Town reportedly remain interested in offering a deal to free agent former West Ham central defender James Collins. On Thursday, TWTD revealed that the 35-year-old was among the centre-halves being considered by the Blues ahead of Friday’s loan deadline.

Now, HITC Sport claim Town are ready to offer terms to the Wales international, who has also played for Cardiff City and Aston Villa. Reports elsewhere have previously linked Collins with a return to the Hammers.

Town added Everton centre-half Matthew Pennington to their squad on Friday but sent youngster Luke Woolfenden out on loan to Swindon.

Currently they have only three central defenders, Pennington, skipper Luke Chambers and Toto Nsiala, who is suspended for the next three games following his red card at Sheffield Wednesday.

Former Blues skipper Gareth McAuley, 38, is reportedly tipped to join Rangers having interested Town.

Good player but thought he was going back to West Ham?

Would take him think he is left sided and experienced at this level could do a short term job

I've see him play numerous times and I absolutely love hm as a player, I thought it was absurd West Ham didn't keep him for another year, remember WHam vs Everton where he had lukaku in his pocket

If this deal is on the cards offer the wages and get him in. What a terrific leader he would be.

What an acquisition he would be and why hasn't he been signed already? He's a no nonsense left centre back and a real captain. A pity he won't be available tomorrow!

It would make sense as we have been short at centre back for a year. Chambers has had, what, 8 or 9, central defensive partners in that time.

Top, top player. Didn't realise he was 35

Would be a great player to bring in but I fear it's sounds a bit like an agent trying to squeeze a few extra quid out of West Ham. Hope I'm wrong.

By my reckoning...

We only just got around to replacing Berra with Toto
We've just replaced Woolfenden with Pennington

So we still need to replace Tommy Smith and Adam Webster!

We need an additional, experienced/quality, CB. Given that we can do no further perm or loanee businesss until Jan, this would be a win-win signing. Importantly, adding a better balance between yoof and experience within the squad. No that confident, however, that we'll get him.

Would be very good addition , very tough 'man' and a leader, something the 'boys' need.

I had assumed McCauley was coming when we let Wolfie go so this is a very pleasant surprise. I hope it happens.

He was the only highlight of a terrible few months way back in 2011 (?) when, like now, we couldn't buy a win. A yes from me.
