Walters Wins Cap But Ireland Thrashed By Wales
Thursday, 6th Sep 2018 21:48

Blues loan striker Jon Walters won his 54th Republic of Ireland cap as his side were defeated 4-1 by Wales in their opening UEFA Nations League match in Cardiff.

Walters, 34, played the full 90 minutes for Ireland who were well-beaten by the Welsh with former Blues loan man Tom Lawrence among the scorers. Ireland play Poland in a friendly in Dublin on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Trevoh Chalobah was an unused sub as England’s U20s beat Switzerland 2-0 in a friendly at St George’s Park this afternoon. The England youngsters have another friendly against Holland in Katwijk on Monday.

Meanwhile, the DBU, the Danish FA, and Spillerforeningen, their players’ association, have agreed a temporary solution to their ongoing contractual dispute relating to commercial rights and a number of other terms and Denmark's senior international squad - including Town’s Jonas Knudsen - will now play in Sunday’s Nations League tie in Aarhus on Sunday.

Glad Walters got the game time. He was at fault for one of the Welsh goals. Playing two games so close together probably knackered him. Wales were really good. Ireland were just awful. Glad we ditched our Ireland b team recruitment policy of a few years ago.

4-1 in rugby isn't possible

Wouldn't have happened in rugby, but either team would see off the Wallabies right now.

Depends on whether bobble means rugby union or rugby league. Rugby Union (impossible), Rugby League (possible)

Wales were brilliant last night and it could've been 7 or 8 if they hadn't taken their foot off the gas in the 2nd half - I wish we could play that way!...glad Walters got another 90 mins under his belt.

On the radio they said that the derby was the first competitive 90 minutes that Walters had played for 18 months, so he's obviously been keeping fit to be able to manage another one so soon after.

PS I'm sure he won't get any stick about the result from the Welsh lads in the squad.

I dont give a shiny one if they lost 20-0 just as long as Walters gets match fit for us.
