Town's U18s moved to the top of the Professional Development League Two South table with a comfortable 5-0 victory against Bristol City at Playford Road on Saturday morning. Zak Brown (pictured) continued his rich vein of goalscoring form by netting twice, while the other goals came from Bailey Clements, Luca Vega and an own goal.

Striker Brown, who bagged a hat-trick in last week's 6-3 win at Charlton, opened the scoring after just four minutes when he ran on to Connor O'Reilly's ball down the right wing and cut into the box before finishing into the far corner from a tight angle.

Brown added a second just two minutes later when he chased Matt Healy's ball over the Robins' defence and beat keeper Will Bose to the loose ball before rolling it into the unguarded net.

Just before the half-hour mark a visiting defender inadvertently netted an own goal from a Thomas Hughes corner from the left, but Bose kept the score down to three just minutes later when he blocked well from Lounes Foudil following a tricky run from the French youngster.

Town continued to dominate and the visitors had Bose to thank again for a number of good saves, most notably from a fierce strike from Foudil which the keeper did well to tip over.

However on 67 skipper Bailey Clements smashed the loose ball into the top corner from 25 yards and then on 81, Healy's corner from the left was met by a powerful back-post header from Luca Vega, who completed the scoring for the young Blues.

Cardiff, who had held top spot in the table before today's fixtures despite having a game in hand over Adem Atay and Kieron Dyer's side, fell to a 1-0 home defeat against Charlton so Town are now three points clear at the top.

The Blues’ U23s, who also top their league table, are in action at Portman Road on Monday evening when they take on Coventry City (KO 7pm).

WhoisJimmyJuan added 09:41 - Sep 23 I find it hard not to feel this lays bare Hurst"s football philosophy is at odds to the rest of the Town coaches, players and staff. They seem to understand the importance of getting to know your players, identifying talent, applying tactics which fit the players you have and not the other way round. Hurst the berk is not an Ipswich man, but a pig headed bully obsessed with sports science and fitness and seems to think that's all it takes to be a decent manager these days.
