Dozzell, Sears, Pennington and Edwards Start as Knudsen Among Those to Drop to Bench
Saturday, 6th Oct 2018 14:23

Andre Dozzell, Freddie Sears, Matthew Pennington and Gwion Edwards start for the Blues at Swansea City with Jonas Knudsen, Jon Nolan, Kayden Jackson and Jordan Graham dropping to the bench.

Knudsen’s usual left-back role is set to go to Janoi Donacien, who moves from right-back with Matthew Pennington returning from his one-match ban. Skipper Luke Chambers and Toto Nsiala continue at the centre of the defence ahead of keeper Dean Gerken.

Cole Skuse and Trevoh Chalobah will be in their usual deeper midfield roles with Dozzell, making his first start since the opening day of last season, coming in for Nolan ahead of them.

Edwards, facing the club where he came through the youth ranks, will be on the right with Grant Ward on the left and Freddie Sears the lone striker.

Young striker Jack Lankester is on the bench for the senior side in a competitive fixture for the first time and has been handed the number 36 shirt. Another academy product, left-back Bailey Clements, also made the trip to Wales but doesn’t make the 18.

Former Blues loanee Bersant Celina starts for the Swans, while another of last season’s Town loan players, Cameron Carter-Vickers, is on the bench.

Swansea: Nordfeldt, Van der Hoorn (c), McBurnie, Celina, Carroll, James, Grimes, Rodon, Roberts, Naughton, Byers. Subs: Mulder, Olsson, Fer, Asoro, Carter-Vickers, McKay, Fulton.

Town: Gerken, Pennington, Nsiala, Chambers (c), Donacien, Skuse, Chalobah, Edwards, Dozzell, Ward, Sears. Subs: Bialkowski, Knudsen, Jackson, Nolan, Graham, Downes, Lankester. Referee: Oliver Langford (West Midlands).

Literally hasn't got a clue at the moment, just throwing random teams in and hoping one gets a win

Good, Knudsen was average on Tuesday, and Dozza transformed us when he came on, Positive line up, and Sears can show if he is worthy of a start

I'm pleased Dozzell is playing and I sincerely hope we win the game today.

However, with this line up it looks like we are going to ‘to a MM'. Defend. Frustrate. Bore. Hope we nick a goal through Sears.

Great, as if we don't have enough trouble defending PH has now decided to go in without a recognized l/b, what an absolute joke - would rather have Knudsen starting.
Oh well at least Chambers and Skuse start.
Cant see anything other than ANOTHER away defeat here.

Great shout to have Sears up front, always a goal in him that one 🤣 Actually I hope he nicks a couple, we sure need to turn the luck. COYB

Another lone furrow being ploughed up front - Why not pair Sears with Jackson up front ? - and go for it.
These two could well compliment each other, and do the business.

Hoping for better - but 2-0 to Swansea. HURST, you just have to GO, you're showing no signs of cracking this level.
GO back to your obvious level.

Hoping I've tempted providence by saying the above - and we return with a WIN. Certainly not expected, that's for sure.

Hope he it rams down bosses throat.

Dozzell! Yes!

Still expect a loss.

Hurst undoubtedly has and continues to look hapless! Don't look the formation or some of the personnel involved! Fear for our club currently !

He is throwing the shirt numbers in a bag and drawing them out like a raffle draw! Will someone wake Evans up and tell him that he is losing ITFC ! With the random selection of players relegation is almost impossible to miss!

....... how much more proof is needed that Hurst hasn't a clue - stands out the proverbial mile.

Good to see that Dozzell starts, also great to see Lancaster on the bench, I hope he gets on instead of Graham FFS.

Paul has got his bingo ball to pick his numbers.Has not a clue as to his better players. How chambers can remain an automatic pick, beggars belief on his poor performances for 75% of games this season.

Ward? Chambers? We look every bit a league one side I'm afraid to say.

What is it with this one up-front business for christ sake it hasn't worked all season and it's not going to work now!

Skuse and Chalobah will line up in midfield, sorry but too similar and too defensive for my liking.

Another hapless shambles of a performance coming up I fear, Swansea will pass us off the pitch.

I think Hurst has been helped because we haven't been totally hammered by anyone this year, often playing well in the second half when the game is lost.

Today however, I think we might get humped by a talented team. Fearing the worst!

pleased with Dozzell but Hurst hasn't a clue does he just enjoy change you ask well maybe at 6 this evening a change may be appropriate for him to find another club

He can try any outfield combination he likes but persisting with dodgy "Mr Mistakes" Gerken when our 3 year running player of the season is on the bench is the biggest mistake of all.

...... problem with Chambers is he can do the job - flip side of him is he seems to have to make the typical costly clanger before he wakes up .... !!

He is so, so easy for a player to turn too - don't need to be outstanding to play against him, until he logs on.

WOW! One of the calamity-prone '3 Undroppable Proper Blokes' actually dropped?! ....that only leaves two to go then! :-D :-D

As for Sears, well I wrote a lengthier piece about my personal *current* evaluation of him earlier in the week, and in short while not many strikers, repeatedly misused or not, can match his 1700+ minute goal drought!!! as it took place between April 2017 and April 2018 (his 2nd eye-popping drought in fact as he earlier had a 38 games long one between 2015-2016) Sears did look particular lively in that granted very short-sample-size that was the last 45 against Boro... and while this true 'Energizer Bunny' of ours will certainly do no worse than Jackson (or Harrison) in Mr. Hurst's dreaded "Lone Striker" role , imho he is also not terrible likely to do much better I'm afraid!

Why, well as 11 games in & by now pretty visible from OUTER SPACE that *puny* attacking setup with this here so far too much resembling a League 1 -like ragtag team & players simply won't produce enough goals. ---- But oh on second thought, and as I've also allured to elsewhere today, MAYBE a full game of Andre & his affinity for killller passes might JUST change that... especially against another anemic team who hasn't scored in 6 of their last 9 league contest.

4 right footed defenders at the back, that'll work well

Dozzell a very much welcome ‘newbie'....hoping a ‘manager' will eventually be able to make full use of Huws and Bishop alongside Dozzell ! Add a tough tackling experienced midfielder to this trio and bingo!
