Lambert Set to Be Confirmed on Saturday
Friday, 26th Oct 2018 14:25

Paul Lambert will be confirmed as Town boss on Saturday morning at 9am ahead of the game at Millwall. The new manager will watch the match from the stands with Bryan Klug in caretaker charge.

It’s likely there will be a press conference with Lambert, 49, who is expected to sign a three-year contract, early in the week, with Tuesday currently pencilled in.

The new manager will meet the players and existing coaching staff at Playford Road on Sunday.

The deal is believed to be all but done but Town won’t make the announcement today with legend Kevin Beattie’s funeral taking place this afternoon.

Lambert is set to bring two members of staff to Portman Road to work alongside him, who we understant will be Stuart Taylor as his assistant and Jim Henry as fitness coach. Ian Culverhouse, previously Lambert's assistant at Norwich, is not thought to be part of the team.

Former Limerick manager Taylor, 43, previously worked with Lambert at Aston Villa, Wolves and Stoke, while Henry was on his staff at the Potters.

Good luck Paul and for having the balls to take us on where I am sure many would have walked away
We said goodbye to a legend today. If in the future you are deemed a legend in our great club then we look forward to great times ahead
Good luck we all need some

Still 50/50 on this and not because of the Norwich connection. To be honest he is pretty brave to be taking this on, although I guess to him it's paid employment with a chance to be a hero but equally the reputation stakes are high with the Norwich connection being used in the event of failure. Wishing him the very best of luck with what he is inheriting, he will certainly need it. If it were me I'd really shake things up and get a new captain in position. As a midfielder I hope he can sort that out as it is an utter shambles, Nolan not up to it. Hope to see some recalls on the youngster front and maybe he can spot a couple of free agent pros to provide some experience as a plug until January. But will Evans back him, track record suggests not.

SAD SAD day when we have to turn to ex scummers manager with a 36% win ratio as a manager. Sacked from last 5 jobs and will not REALLY REALLY care about ITFC in his heart like a Burley / Butcher / Mowbray or Holland would and if he doesn't get off to a great start will find it very hard to get the backing of the fans due to his NCFC connections. If Evans actually had a brain and wasn't just using our beloved club to offset his profits elsewhere in his business portfolio then he would appoint a true blue to the job rather than an ex budgie....... Hope I'm very very wrong but I doubt it

Can we all get behind this proven and talented manager - this move could and should be exactly what ITFC needs right now

He has been very successful at this level and also worked beyond Championship

Marcus you will need to back your man in January with some investment

Starting at Millwall tomorrow, let's get behind OUR team

COYB

Sorry but you lot and your “Norwich “ quotes. Give it a rest! The only thing that matters is moving forward. Clearly you're holding on to the connection so you can throw it back at him if it goes wrong. I don't care if he scored hatricks against us or beat us a dozen times in derby's. If he gets the job done that's good enough for me. It should be them up the road that should be pissed and worried now.

I haven't commented much this season because I have gotten to the stage where football is not the main focus in my life. Some of us last season wanted a change, we got it. Some wanted a younger manager, we got that, some wanted young hungry players from the lower leagues, we got them. Before some of the signings people were talking about them as though they had expert knowledge about them. As things started to go wrong some commented that our new manager was out of his depth and he had got rid of the spine of the team, when most either wanted to leave or were considered injury prone or not up to our standards by the experts on here. Some commented we needed a more experienced manager, lo and behold we the wish is granted, are we satisfied? No some complain of his budgie connection! Should we really care? Does anybody believe he is an undercover agent, plotting with Delia and other scummers to get us relegated or is he somebody trying to earn a living in a job he enjoys doing and has proven himself capable at this level

A shame about Paul Hurst, I'd very much have liked it to have worked out. But I'm reassured to have Mick Lambert as our new manager.

The best manager in the world will only succeed if he's given money to spend and that doesn't happen here. Are you listening Evans ?

As much as it pains me the football Norwich played under him was expansive, flowing and attacked with pace something that has been sorely missing for about twelve years or so. I won't forget the spanking we got at Portman road when they came up AND with lower division players I might add.

Ptebbs007, completely agree with you. Think we have missed an opportunity to regain the passion in our club.
I have never felt like this before but my interest and patience is just about done. Think I need to take a break from our lovely but tired stadium, our distant owner and journeyman management and players. So sad

After all the comments on here demanding action, I think ME deserves some credit for being decisive. We tried something different and it didn't work and he has the courage to appoint a potentially unpopular but experienced and capable manager.

IMO Paul Lambert was a gutsy player and a capable manager. I hope he gets a bit more luck than Paul Hurst did in his first few games, cos he is unlikely to get much of a honeymoon period from the budgie bashers on here.
