McCarthy: No Sympathy With Fans Who Hounded Me Out
Friday, 26th Oct 2018 19:16

Former boss Mick McCarthy says the section of the Town support who were hounded him out have “got what they deserved” and he has “no sympathy” with them following the Blues’ disastrous start to the season which has led to his successor Paul Hurst departing only 14 games into the Championship season.

“It’s sad for Paul Hurst,” McCarthy told talkSPORT2. “They did make a lot of changes — a lot of players left and maybe a couple of the signings haven’t worked out instantly.

“I think they were unlucky in a couple of games and it can change around so quickly and all of a sudden you’re on the slide. I’m not one to be talking too much about it to be honest.”

Reflecting on his time at Portman Road and the way it ended he added: “I had my spell there, I loved it, enjoyed it and some of them made their feelings known and it’s not worked out for them since I’ve left, has it?

“I’ll make it clear, it wasn’t everybody. It was a fair section of them and I had a real happy time there because there are a lot of good people and I feel for them.

“But I have to say, the ones that were hounding me for 18 months to two years, I’ve got no sympathy for them at all. They’ve got what they deserved.”

Moving on to tomorrow’s game at Millwall which new manager Paul Lambert, whose appointment will be confirmed first thing tomorrow morning with a press conference pencilled in for Tuesday, will watch from the stands, McCarthy added: “It’s never easy going to the Den. So it’s going to be a tough old job for Paul if he gets the job. I like Paul Lambert.”

The incoming boss is understood to have agreed a three-year deal with Stuart Taylor set to be his assistant and Jim Henry Town's new fitness coach, the pair having left Stoke along with Lambert at the end of last season.

Why on earth are we still talking about this guy anyway (me included). Time to move on and get behind the new manager when unveiled and support B. K today. Surely we are united in that?
This is our football club and we all want the best for it. Disagree if you want and press the button which will show you are not true supporters of this club as we All want the good times back

He is absolutely correct, just look at the anti Mick comments on here by the so called " supporters who will never admit that given the constraints that MM worked under he did a good job. Then we have " why has he not got another job yet" simple answer to the simple people who are asking this question, he has no need to. Lambert even before he starts is already getting the "he was in charge of the scum, we don't want him here" comments. Are these some called supporters who hounded MM out a true reflection on the majority of loyal Ipswich town fans, nope and they never will be.

Uninspiring football, bulls**t talked about poor results and poor players having a great game, picking old past it players instead of the youth, getting rid of Marriott who is looking class. This man had no PR skills. He is a foul mouthed agressive man who provoked the fans on many occasions. Told the fans the more we scream for a sub he is more likely he is not to put one on. He got what he deserved I am afraid. I for one do not miss him. Unfortunately he never needs to work again. The money received from ITFC over the years he was here was a lottery win for most supporters. If you cannot take the abuse then get another job. Just do one and get on with your life.

More comments on this story, our ex,ex manager than the appointment of our new one.

Goes to show how the fans were so divided.
It really is time to move forward now.

I can't help but think this story, which is of no importance and totally irrelevance, was added to the website to stir up an argument and give those who pay to advertise here a little happier.

Time for the fans to come together and back the new man and hope that Evans does likewise in the next transfer window.

If there was only a minority complaining about, his boring tactics, poor substitutions, his poor communicating with supporters, inability to change formation when his tactics were not working, why wasn't he given another contract? Again people talk about the constraints MM worked under, I will repeat what I kept saying others did better at other clubs with less money, so that is an excuse not a reason. Surely if he was as good as he thinks he is Evans would have kept him! Just another point when we won our only game this match did the Swansea manager sat “Ipswich are a good team, they are in a false position!”

At least he finally admits it was a fair section of the fans and not a minority cos it certainly was not a minority. I wouldn't take him back if he offered to use 20 million of his own money to buy players with the arrogant tosser. A nasty, toxic, negative old dinosaur. We tried Hurst and it didn't work, oh well, at least we tried. Now we'll get behind Lambert and see what happens. I see Mick still isn't in a job. Macclesfield Town are without a manager at the bottom of league 2, they might be desperate enough for him.

What a total prxck, still as arrogant. DirtyOld Nogger called him a true gentleman, Christ you must know some pretty appalling people, MM acted like a lout most of the time, doesn't have a job does he. There's a vacancy at Leiston but doubt they'd even have him as they do play football not MMM's idea (hoofball)

There is little mention of McCarthy"s very poor football that drove a good few thousand regular supporters away from this club. He had a lovely little click going on with very average footballers who were very thankful to have a contract. As long as Championship survival was achieved NOTHING else mattered. No cup runs, a frayed connection with the supporters, an inflated ego and zero entertainment. The atmosphere at the stadium was depressing.

McCarthy wasn't given the boot because people disliked him as a person (although, given his arrogance and general demeanour towards the crowd at times, I could understand it if it was the case with some). He was ousted because the footballing fayre being served up by his team was damn near unwatchable.

Despite what he might think, mid-to-lower-table mediocrity that went hand-in-hand with week after week of boring, defensive, non-passing, aimless hoofball, in the end, was no longer acceptable. He could appease the owner for a while by selling off our best assets and balancing the books but, as was inevitable, performances, results and league position were always going to suffer. Worse and worse every season.

His bleating, "Im-so-hard-done-by" attitude and abuse of the fan base is what eventually got him the push. He lost it.

So wind your neck in, Micky boy... you were the architect of your own downfall!

You can spot the numbskulls a mile off. They have no shame.
Still wanging on, as if they were right!.....
You got what you wanted, you should be ecstatic.
Now look at the sh*t you have got the club into.
If you had all got behind him at the right time, and appreciated what he was achieving under this destructive owner, we could be in a very different place. Did you never consider turning your spite towards the owner???
No, it probably requires a fraction more intelligence to see the real issue with ITFC...

No need to comment Mick. You might be sniggering to yourself but why feel the need to lower yourself to comment, just shows a complete lack of class on your behalf.

He came to us with a good track record. After the playoff season it went wrong. Should have gone on to improve the team instead of selling his assets ie Mings & Murphy.
To me " should have done better "
