Lambert Meets Blues Legends
Wednesday, 7th Nov 2018 16:21

Blues boss Paul Lambert and his staff met Town legends Terry Butcher, George Burley and John Wark at Playford Road earlier today.

Butcher revealed on BBC Radio Suffolk's Life’s a Pitch on Saturday that Lambert wanted to “get a few of the older boys together and talk about our opinions and things like that”.

Lambert was joined by first-team coach Matt Gill, new goalkeeping-coach Jimmy Walker, assistant manager Stuart Taylor and fitness coach Jim Henry as he chatted at length with the former Blues over lunch.

“It’s the first time I have been asked to come to the training ground and sit down and have a chat since I left the Club,” Burley told iFollow Ipswich.

“We all appreciated Paul asking us down and wanting to get our thoughts. It was a good conversation. We all want the best for Ipswich Town.”

Wark added: “It was great to be invited down. It’s the first time a manager has asked me to go and have a chat and some lunch as well and I really appreciated it.

“Paul’s obviously got a big job on his hands but the signs were encouraging on Saturday. You could see from the reaction of the fans at the weekend that they are right behind Paul and the team had a right go.

“He’s got all the right credentials for the job here and I just hope - we all hope - that he can turn things around here because Ipswich is my club. It’s our club.”

We knew it was going to happen , but doesn't the photo say it all ?!
Feel good factor makes a return : lets all get on the train for the journey , enjoy the ride but believe the Driver will bring us safely home !
PL and Co say the right things , are doing the right things , and looking the 'confident ' part .
Now we must trust Mr Evans will stoke the boiler ,blow the whistle and also be on board !
Up the Blues !

Love it! Great to see Burley, Butcher and Wark being involved and consulted on matters. Whatever happens this season I think we're in good hands with Lambert in the long term.

Up or down, follow The Town.

Not sure if he's done this before or whether it's something he's picked up from previous clubs. Either way a brilliant move, he deserves to succeed.

I don't see this as a PR stunt in any shape or form this is a proper manager who takes pride in his work and wants the whole club on and off the field pulling together credit to him for that!!!

I do hope the management team and club receive feedback on how this has gone down with the fans. It's been a long time since I've come on here to such a positive reaction - it feels after a long time that the ITFC way has been acknowledged other than by the fans.

A confident and astute leader will never be afraid to seek out opinions from those who are blue through and through. Lambert clearly has that ability and human touch. Our history will help to determine our future and put down new roots. A new era has just begun. I am happy in a very hopeful way.

A very impressive move from Paul Lambert. I'm liking everything he has done so far & I think this will make everyone feel positive about ITFC as it certainly has me. Now the hardest thing will be getting it right on the pitch with what we have available. A tough ask but if anyone can I feel Lambert can

I'm sure the Scottish lads (burley and wark) were grateful of the free lunch.

I'm not too old to admit watching the video brought a tear to my eye.
PL seriously recognised the importance of our former top players and the inspiration and views that they hold for our club.
This is something a lot of us have been crying out for for many years.
Well done PL. We're starting to move in the right direction again.

I'd want these three down on the training ground every week. I am sure they would all be prepared to give up their time to come down and help out, and what a boost that would give the squad having these legends around the place. It is just another set of arms to put around the players shoulders.

The great thing about this is that he'll have a bang up to date, fully professional critique of the club from 3 blokes that really know not just the history, but what's happened the last few months. I'm sure they didn't hold back on their opinions and if they were in agreement then Lambert will have been given a turbo boost in terms of getting to grips with things.

Master stroke on PL's part.

I think it shows a genuine guy with a belief in his own ability, it takes a big man to do what he did today and I am won over now. The results have to improve of course but I thin PL is going about things in exactly the right way.

If this was a calculated decision for PR purposes or indeed cynical manipulation it is clever....however Paul Lambert is equally a man of stature and some success, and to be seen to be asking for thoughts of Town legends could be construed as weak/lacking his own ideas It certainly is not.
When previous managers of recent time came in to Town, did they consider such a master move....imagine if Paul Hurst had done that over the summer, knowing that Burley and Butcher had sought the role....
Lambert has played this exquisitely....and it is sad that George Burley over recent years has not been sounded out ....as others have pointed out it suggests degrees of arrogance, lack of understanding of our rich history and that these Town legends still love and care for this club as much as they do....

A brilliant move, not only from a PR basis but to feed off these guys can only help the cause.I presume M Mills had other comittments but i'm sure he will be involved at some point.
I think it can only help to build the players confidence and of course the fans as well.
Maybe Muhren and Thjissen could be called over to deliver their pearls of wisdom?
All hands to the pump but i think PL is being very thorough in getting to know the club and its heritage

A PL master stroke. Who knows we could have the owner engaging with the fans next??

Three points at Reading would do very nicely ahead of the International break.

Great work by Paul Lambert, this must be the first time in a long while a negative post has not been made .......remember we are the 12th man and continue to back him throughout the season whatever results come our way.

A tough listen, mind.

Our new Messiah meets three Wise Men. Christmas approaches!

Well done PL, getting a wide spectrum of views and opinions and, more importantly perhaps, acknowledging the club's history as a means for helping our future. I bet the banter was immense!
