Downes Added to England U20 Squad
Monday, 12th Nov 2018 10:20

Blues midfielder Flynn Downes has been added to the England U20 squad for next Monday’s game against Germany at Colchester United having initially been on standby.

Downes, 19, who is yet to win a cap at U20s level having played for the England U19s last season, joins Andre Dozzell and Trevoh Chalobah in the squad, while Town U16s coach Titus Bramble is joining head coach Paul Simpson’s staff ahead of the U20s Elite League game. Town loanee Tayo Edun was also put on standby.

Dozzell won his first U20s cap in last month’s 1-1 draw in the Czech Republic, Chalobah having made his first appearance at that level in September. Edun won seven U20s caps last season.

Bramble follows his fellow academy coach Kieron Dyer in working with Simpson. Town U18s assistant manager Dyer was involved with the squad ahead of last month’s games and has been asked to join up again for future matches but is not involved on this occasion.

Congrats to Flynn. We have plenty of recognised talent in the squad. Just hope Lambert can get the best of them very soon with some much needed wins, so we can enjoy their talent at ITFC too.

How good to see our own faith and belief in the youngsters are being recognised at senior level !
It must also be great for the Training and coaching staff at Playford Rd and be a major boost and confirmation of all their valuable efforts .What a shame that we went through a period where the younger staff were sent out ( and not followed up regularly ) or not known or even recognised; every good wish to PL and his staff, for the current approach is a breath of long needed fresh air ,optimism and professionalism !
