Loanee Graham Training With Oxford and Set for Town Exit
Wednesday, 14th Nov 2018 14:28

Loanee winger Jordan Graham is training with League One Oxford United with his season-long spell with the Blues looking certain to be cut short in January.

Graham, who previously had a short stint with Town in 2013/14, rejoined the club in August and made three starts and one sub appearance without scoring under Paul Hurst but has not featured under Paul Lambert.

The 23-year-old was previously with Lambert during his time at Aston Villa and Wolves with the two not always enjoying a harmonious relationship due to disciplinary issues.

Although on a season-long loan the Blues are able to curtail his spell in January, which they appear certain to do, but will continue to pay their share of his wages in the meantime.

Oxford boss Karl Robinson has revealed that Graham, who had a spell on loan at the Kassam Stadium in 2015, is training with his club ahead of a potential switch once the transfer window opens.

"He’s a player I tried to sign in the summer,” he told the Oxford Mail. "When we saw he wasn’t playing for Ipswich we contacted Wolves and I said, ‘Can we be a home for him for two months?’ in the hope we can get it done in January.

"They said yes and we spoke to the player, who basically wanted to walk here. He’s getting a place outside Oxford and will train with us for two months in the hope we get a deal done in January.

"It just shows the reputation we’ve got for young players here. People might wonder why would Jordan Graham come to a team who are where we are. It's because he knows we’re good.

"He trained yesterday and said it was one of the best training sessions he’s been involved in. It was a case of us requesting an opportunity from Wolves and they said it was fine.

"We tried to keep it quiet, but we’re open to the elements at the training ground so it was always a hard one, especially when he was so dominant when he was here."

Graham's all but certain exit along with Jon Walters's spell from Burnley being formally ended in January will mean the Blues have only four players on loan. That figure will be reduced to three - Trevoh Chalobah, Matthew Pennington and Tayo Edun - once Janoi Donacien's permanent leave to remain is finally confirmed.

Graham wanted to walk to Oxford rather than wait for the numerous TWTD posts offering to give him a lift...

Was a desperately poor signing from day 1 - looked well off match fitness in every game. Good luck to him at Oxford. Opens up a space for a striker to come in on loan in Jan :)

Didn't think PL would be long moving him out. Not surprised, to be honest.

Loans can't be cut short until January, which is what will happen.

Clearly someone who will NEVER be a decent Championship player; his time here summed up Hurst's desperation. I think Oxford might be planning for League 2 if Graham gets Robinson all moist as he clearly does. I'd be worried if I was an Oxford fan (and alternatively, if he IS decent league one standard, I'd be massively optimistic if we did go down). Useless winger, with an attitude problem. Great stuff PH

Are we committed to go through with the Donacien deal? Or can we ship him somewhere and get Emmanuel back at Christmas?

Sounds like he's doing more at Oxford than he did with us... he was allowed to play for us, but didn't really, did he?!

An inevitable parting of the ways! Best outcome for all parties. End of.

He was useless the first time here on loan, and no better this time. Mind you, the whole loan system should be scrapped anyway.

Has talent but takes more than that.

Hallmarks of Cameron Stewart all over him.

Looked well of the pace, a desperate signing from Hurst

Good, he's cr@p. PL continuing to form a team.

Has an element of talent, but some kind of commitment needs to compliment that, which he doesn't seem to have.
An all too common trait with more than a few these days unfortunately.

No point in slagging the player off, he was put in a place where he was just not good enough by a manager who was also way out of his depth. At his level ,he would probably be regarded as a decent player.

Beat me to it BlueBeat...
I was going to say he'd have to walk as he's not fit enough to run!

Would trust Lamberts view on the player rather than Hurst or MM who both brought him to the club and played him , average League 1 at best

Unfortunately another one of Hurst's desperate moves, looks like he's on his way back to Shrewsbury, as I suspected he would.

The question is not who's going, but who can come in...? Walters back would be a good start, but we need a really good target man, and some cover across the back 4 imo. Would take £10M to get that, but was that just a figure plucked out of the air?

Glad to see the back of him! He's been terrible both times he's played here on loan. I'd send Edun back in January as well purely because it's been a complete waste of time with the lack of game time he's played. Hopefully Lambert can then bring in two or three much better loanees as well as a few good permanent signings then the squad could look much stronger.

Rowe has done more in one sub appearance under Lambert than Graham did the whole time he was here. Now - who do we have to pay at the home office to refuse Donacien's work permit so he has to go back to Acrington? I wouldn't mind if he cost £300k max like Jonas, but £750k?! WHAT WERE THE CLUB THINKING?!

That's it Paul, ship em out .

Strangest of all Hurst's strange signings.
