Loanee Graham Training With Oxford and Set for Town Exit
Wednesday, 14th Nov 2018 14:28

Loanee winger Jordan Graham is training with League One Oxford United with his season-long spell with the Blues looking certain to be cut short in January.

Graham, who previously had a short stint with Town in 2013/14, rejoined the club in August and made three starts and one sub appearance without scoring under Paul Hurst but has not featured under Paul Lambert.

The 23-year-old was previously with Lambert during his time at Aston Villa and Wolves with the two not always enjoying a harmonious relationship due to disciplinary issues.

Although on a season-long loan the Blues are able to curtail his spell in January, which they appear certain to do, but will continue to pay their share of his wages in the meantime.

Oxford boss Karl Robinson has revealed that Graham, who had a spell on loan at the Kassam Stadium in 2015, is training with his club ahead of a potential switch once the transfer window opens.

"He’s a player I tried to sign in the summer,” he told the Oxford Mail. "When we saw he wasn’t playing for Ipswich we contacted Wolves and I said, ‘Can we be a home for him for two months?’ in the hope we can get it done in January.

"They said yes and we spoke to the player, who basically wanted to walk here. He’s getting a place outside Oxford and will train with us for two months in the hope we get a deal done in January.

"It just shows the reputation we’ve got for young players here. People might wonder why would Jordan Graham come to a team who are where we are. It's because he knows we’re good.

"He trained yesterday and said it was one of the best training sessions he’s been involved in. It was a case of us requesting an opportunity from Wolves and they said it was fine.

"We tried to keep it quiet, but we’re open to the elements at the training ground so it was always a hard one, especially when he was so dominant when he was here."

Graham's all but certain exit along with Jon Walters's spell from Burnley being formally ended in January will mean the Blues have only four players on loan. That figure will be reduced to three - Trevoh Chalobah, Matthew Pennington and Tayo Edun - once Janoi Donacien's permanent leave to remain is finally confirmed.

Wide players, with the exception of the LB spot, have been our Achilles for years. Reading between the lines, PL has seen this issue, and sincerely hope that we both give our youngsters a chance (Emmanuel being shipped out on Loan was CRIMINAL), and bring in better quality than we have. Only way to move forward.

Mind you, going to be tricky if we still cast adrift at Xmas as looks likely. Let's hope PL has a bit of Del Boy about him......maybe promise new signings a Rolllex watch !

A completely pointless loan signing. Nowhere near good enough and seemed like a panic loan after the failure to complete permanent deals prior to the deadline. His record is very poor and there was little to suggest he'd perform better for us.

I wonder if Edun will be sent back to Fulham? No better than our own youngsters.

Also, I wonder if PH intends on keeping Donacien... or perhaps we have to buy him if his clearance ever comes through?

1 signing that could make a huge difference for me is Kieron Richardson, manager knows him, has pedigree and talent, is in record as recognising he perhaps lacked application but insists that has gone, turned his life around, itching for a chance somewhere, top flight experience and could play left back instead of Knudson who seems to have gone backwards under Hurst.

Think he'd bring quality, a threat down the left and better positioning in what is currently our weakest point defensively.

Graham had to go, as others have said complete waste of time - twice. I have to say i'm surprised at the reaction and comments re Donacien. I've not been to every game, but those that i have, where he has played in his natural position, i thought he looked decent. General consensus on him from others? Constructive comments would be good!

Fortunately, it hasn't taken PL long to work out which of the two Jordans is worth his salt (Roberts) and which is a waste of time (Graham).
I agree with DJ27, Donacien in the right back position hasn't looked out of place. Along with Chalobah, Edwards, Pennington and Edun, these make up only five players that Hurst has signed that have been fit to wear the shirt.

Hopefully we will see a few of the summer 2018 signings leave in jan. league 2 sounds about right for Graham, he won't set the world on fire there but he'll do ok.

If we are honest I think that most of the loanees will probably go back now Lambert is here. Edun, Graham even Chalobah -Pennington should stay.

First of many I think....just a question of time. Many of these players have had their big chance to play at a higher level...and blown it in spectacular fashion. Most of them weren't ready for championship football in the first place...

If Hurst gets the Shrewsbury job he might be looking to bring back a few of his familiar signings on-loan. If he does make a decent offer...we should let them go. Build around a different base and move forwards with players who can play at this level under Lambert.

We need to rectify this situation ASAWAA....

Those who have criticised Spence obviously haven't seen the last two games....

Watching the highlights only gives you a glimpse....

Always looked awful, good luck too him at Oxford. So pleased PL is seeing the obvious!

Phil can we send Donacien back regardless of whether he gets his permission to stay? Would rather have Josh back, never given a fair chance by Mm or ph imo.

Letting him train at Oxford, yet continuing to pay his wages as per the loan agreement? Clearly a lot of bad blood between PL and JG from the past to show him the door like that. Obviously it wasn't a case of wiping the slate clean and starting again!

Still, it was a good move by Town both for the club and the player. No point in having someone around who doesn't want to be here and who will never make the team.

I wonder what JG's thoughts were when he found out that PL had been appointed.
