Town Draw Accrington Stanley Away in FA Cup
Monday, 3rd Dec 2018 19:48

Town have drawn League One Accrington Stanley away in the third round of the FA Cup.

The Blues have never played Kayden Jackson and Janoi Donacien's former club Stanley in a competitive fixture. The duo helped John Coleman's side to the League Two title last season.

Donacien is still on loan from the Lancastrians with his permanent leave to remain - which will trigger the formalising of his £750,000 permanent switch - yet to be confirmed. In the FA Cup parent clubs decide whether their loanees can play against them, which in the circumstances Stanley would appear likely to do.

No current Accrington player has been with the Blues, although keeper-coach Tony Warner had a trial with Town in 1998.

Third round ties are set to be played between Friday 4th and Monday 7th January.

Town's last victory in the tournament came back in January 2010 when they beat Blackpool 2-1 in the third round at Bloomfield Road during Roy Keane’s time in charge.

Last season the Blues were beaten 1-0 at home by Sheffield United, their 13th match without a victory in the competition they won for the only time in 1978.

Thanks Phil - I had rather overlooked the small matter of the original club going into liquidation in 1966!

My partner was born in Blackburn and lived for many years in Accrington. Our first ixture was home against Blackburn and now we are drawn away against Accrington in the Cup. Is th fixture list trying to tell us something?

A proper cup tie: if it's half as good as a similar cup tie Morecambe away back in 2001 it'll be awesome fun. Obviously a very different season, but the cup is escape from all that. COYB!

Eight years since a FA cup win, disgraceful.

I can see it clearly now, our new midfielder putting a wonderful cross-field ball over the top, so perfect their defence can only watch, Jackson getting on the end of it, hitting it ever so confidently on the half-volley, and scuffing it skewing it into the corner flag.

At least PL will give this tie a right go. Do we have to go through with the Donacian deal when if/when his right to remain is granted? Lambert has stated that he only sees him as a c/h not a wing back/full back.

Excellent draw. Another new ground. Along with Podgorica (Montenegro), Prague (Czech Republic) and Pristina (Kosovo) from The Euro draw yesterday

As Donacian is still on loan from Stanley would he be allowed to play I wonder?

Sorry rgp1 - some people can get rather precious about their up and down arrows... I hope you're not one of them! My fat thumb inadvertently marked you down instead of up! I'd be happy to leave both there and have a refund!!

As we will lose anyway i would rather have had a Man City or Chelsea to be honest. Less humiliating

The sad thing is not many years ago this would have been seen as a potential giant killing, not now! This is an evenly matched tie, sad times indeed! That said I hope we get a cup win and run!

Unlike us they must be really fancying this one. We could call it a potential banana skin but then we are already flat on our backs struggling to get up.
