Blues Linked With Canary Marshall
Sunday, 16th Dec 2018 13:34

Town have been linked with a January move for Norwich City winger or right-back Ben Marshall.

According to The Sun, manager Paul Lambert is keen for the 27-year-old, who played for him at Blackburn and at Wolves, to join him at Portman Road on loan.

Marshall joined Norwich on a four-year deal in the summer from Wolves for an undisclosed fee but hasn’t featured since August.

The Salford-born former England U21 international is very much the experienced Championship campaigner Lambert is looking to add to his squad on loan during the transfer window.

Although seeing him primarily as a winger, Lambert was impressed with his performances at right-back during their time together at Ewood Park.

“He’s been excellent playing right-back,” Lambert said in February 2016. “Funnily enough I still see his talent being further forward up the pitch because he can beat people and he’s got a terrific knack of picking a pass or a shot.

“But he likes playing right-back and, to be fair to him, he’s doing ever so well in that role, and to get goals from that position, well there’s not too many you can say that about. Ben has been very good.”

Having been a youth player with Manchester United and Crewe Alexandra, Marshall was at Stoke where he failed to break into the first team but spent time on loan at Northampton, Cheltenham, Carlisle and Sheffield Wednesday before joining Leicester in 2012.

He moved on to Blackburn in 2013, then Wolves four years later when Lambert paid a fee of £1.2 million for him and was on loan at Millwall during the second half of last season.

Yesterday, owner Marcus Evans met with general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill and director of football Dave Bowman prior to the 1-0 victory over Wigan to further discuss the Blues’ January plans having held talks with Lambert at Playford Road earlier in the week.

My son was at crewe academy when he came there from Man U and he always had a great dead ball delivery . Boy could we do with that at the moment . Was awful again yesterday in that department. Worry every time we get a corner ......in case we concede from it

Seems to be primarily a winger these days....useful to have a player who can play in both positions though...

Sure the rumour mill will start taking hold the next two weeks....

Strikers...I am looking forward to us being linked with strikers.

Feel a tad bit happier after the win (even if we did play pretty poorly). The more we close that gap...the more likely we will have funds...

Need a Grant Murphy kind of striker (cross between Holt and Murphy) plus someone who really knows how to finish.....

If the Manager says he's good then I hope we get him.

Yes this will do. Only now another 9 players left to swap out of the first team (with Sears saved now he is being allowed to get near the goal)

I'd rather play my Gran at right back than Jordan Spence. One of the worst right backs I can ever remember being at the club.

shouldistayorcounago - You are entitled to your opinion but you are way off the mark. We all love Bart and he is the best keeper out of the two. However, not currently. He has had a woeful season starting with a clanger in the first home game, a gimme against Preston and ending with the two against Bristol & finally gains Forest - he will come good again but right now Deano is the correct choice. His kicking isn't the best but he made some crucial saves including the free kick & a late double on Sat.

Were you the guy shouting at him behind his goal in the 2nd half?!

As for signing of Ben Marshall, lets hope so! 2 years ago we battered Blackburn at home, MacG missed a pen to seal the game at 2-0. Que injury time and a Ben Marshall free kick on the edge of the area, curled in like Beckham 1-1.

I was disappointed when I heard Norwich had signed him. He would be a great signing for us, at right back or right wing..!

Lets get behind the team and Lambert, we are still in the scrap..
