Boro Striker Gestede Linked With Blues Loan
Monday, 17th Dec 2018 19:38

Middlesbrough striker Rudy Gestede is reported to be among Paul Lambert’s January Town loan targets.

According to the Daily Telegraph the 30-year-old will be made available by Boro during the transfer window with the Blues having made an initial enquiry.

Benin international Gestede was previously with Aston Villa - who sold the 6ft 4in tall frontman to the Teessiders for £6 million in January 2017 - and Blackburn but not during Lambert’s time in charge of either club.

Like Daryl Murphy, Gestede is very much the experienced Championship number nine Lambert is looking to add to his squad during the January window and is almost certainly on his list of potential recruits.

Essey-lès-Nancy-born Gestede, who spent time with Cardiff and Metz earlier in his career, has made only two starts this season - one in the Championship in November - as well as four sub appearances and is currently sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Overall, he has made 20 starts and 27 sub appearances for Boro, scoring six goals.

This one would be a no brainer. Been a scurge to us over the years!

A very good player but given that he has only made two starts and four sub appearances this season is he going to be up and running quickly enough to help us out?
I guess we are going to have to gamble on whoever's we bring in though as the regular players will already be established at their respective clubs.

Ideal Target man striker to act as a focal point for this team. The amount of time we spend in the opposition half would make this signing help take the rpessure off our defence. Crucial we get a signing like this done.

Gestede is goodin the air. And we have wingers who can beat their man to supply him. We even have a few academy players who can take set pieces onto his head too.

A player who can add both our defence and attack

Armchaircritic59 thats a good call as watching him for the England u21 he has scored some quality goal and knows where the goal is, good with his feet and head I'd go for it Gestede is an alright signing but only a real threat with his head and we are no good at crossing the ball epecially from corners so for me Crouch would be a fantastic as he is an all round goal machine and a great character to have around the club and a big name for bums on seats

Get him in.big target man and would play him with Kayden Jackson upfront with Sears just behind picking up the pieces.

There are it seems quite a few possible decent loan options out there .
I can't wait to see what pans out but after all this hype it needs to not be underwhelming.

PL said he wanted business done quickly as soon as the window opens. I really hope this happens and that irons are well and truly in the fire already. Previous January windows we have picked the dregs just before it closed.

The fact that Gestede cost £6m is an indication of why Evans gave up on trying to make us competitive in this league.

Am I the only one who would like to see a Now fit Ellis Harrison given a run in the team? Anyone who saw the pre season game against West ham will remember his very well taken goal having been slipped through by Andre Dozzell. He also hit the post with a good diving header. He had a good goal scoring record at Bristol Rovers and as I said , would like to see him start with Sears. For me Jackson is a good impact sub to use his pace against a tiring defence, but is not a natural goal scorer. I think Harrison is.

Don't think Murphy will move again and played last night. I like the sound of DS of Liverpool but would probably prefer Rudy in view of his experience. Doubtless there'll be lots more names before PL makes his moves.

We have not got time to give people runs and see how they shape up----we need battle hardened proven campaigners who can come in and do job from the off.

What about David Nugent. Always been a thorn in our side and not getting any game time at Derby?

47 appearances ...6 goals.....25 games left would mean he scores 4 times ....not going to get us out of relegation trouble ...Sears is scoring more than that !
Need a premiership striker that has demonstrated an ability to deliver in the championship...Defoe anyone ?

Nuge past it and like Billy Sharpe has turned us down too many times.

Solanke will go to a promtion chasing or lower PL if at all and even if we did get him will come with a clause stating he must play x no of games.... not a fan of that although I think he's class and would imagine hitting that no. Should not be an issue

Gestede is a realistic target and the kind of player I would expect us to be going for. If only we'd had a header of the ball up front all season, we probably wouldn't be in the position we are now. (Paul Hurst was a bit unlucky in that Walters got injured.) I reckon he could do a job for us, short-term at least.

STOP PRESS , Ipswich targets Messi ,! oh hang on..,Ipswich targets , messy , SORRY . Seriously all these names are speculation , everyone should have learned that by now , every time we get close to a window the same old same old comes out.Cant imagine Lambert would be broadcasting his targets ,it would surely jeopardise his chances of getting the people he wants . Trust PL and hope and pray ME gets his finger out,.Whoever is brought in , will need to be the right person, and they will need to prove their worth . ,we are drinking in the Last Chance Saloon

Would ME pay his wages doubtful as mentioned we will have to endure many links but it's down to the chairman who won't spend the money to try and survive

The on;y lower league player I would look at woild be Stockley at Exeter - decent - much better ratio than some of the other ones that Hurst signed

"Currently out with a hamstring injury"!! No thanks - We need players to come in that we can rely on, not spend their time injured - eg Walters. I loved Murphy, but I can;t see him being the answer either.
