Blues midfielder Tristan Nydam says he’s looking to make an immediate impression on boss Paul Lambert when his loan spell at St Johnstone ends in January.

Nydam, 19, has had a frustrating spell with the Scottish Premiership club, making only one start and four sub appearances since joining them in August.

"“With a new manager here I really want to come back and impress him so I’m just itching to get back and show him what I can do,” Nydam told the club site.""

“I met Paul a few weeks ago when I was back at the training ground and he seemed like a really nice guy so I’m looking forward to working with him. "

“I’d like to try and make an impression here in January. I know that could be tough though as the gaffer will look to make more signings and I’ve basically just missed the first half of the season having not played as much as I would have hoped."

He's too lightweight for this division, and Championship midfielders would just brush past him. I'd be very happy to be proved wrong.

NBVJohn added 20:17 - Dec 19 I think this was the bit when I started to wonder about some of the decision making; Nydam and Wolfenden give a really good account of themselves in a key friendly immediately before the season starts and promptly get shipped out on loan. It seemed odd at the time. I think I decided there was more to it than I realised. In reality it was probably simply so he could get his mate Nolan in. The rest is history - everything seemed odd not long after that. Good to see him back, a good prospect but I worry about the effect of playing in a struggling team on such a young lad. Paul Hurst has a great deal to answer for. Total carnage in such a short space of time.

Carl2588 added 20:24 - Dec 19 All who say he'd struggle I don't agree even when MM put him in the team he never looked out of place in the championship but only thing I would say is that we need a more creative figure in the middle of the park at present so do see the likes of dozzell in front of him and maybe even whoever PL brings in but I do like TN so maybe when chalobah goes back to Chelsea he's one who can step in then after a bit part the rest of the season.

Edmundo added 20:42 - Dec 19 Scotland is tough: apparently the teams up there are not keen on using youngsters shipped in from "southern" clubs, as there's a real feeling that it's taking the place of a home grown youngster (which I understand given the number of loans we've had here). Nydam looked the business at times last season, but it's been a total waste of time for him from a playing point of view. Hopefully he'll get some time from the bench though, and could build a partnership with Downes, Dozzell and maybe even Bish as the season develops. All depends on the next few games and whether we can pull ourselves out of this mess.

Taricco_Fan added 20:57 - Dec 19 A completely pointless move by Hurst, made even more pointless by Edun (a very similar player) coming the other way on loan. Nydam was more than ready to make a run at claiming a regular starting place this season and Hurst was appointed on a pledge to nurture our homegrown talent. Instead, Nydam, Emmanuel (who deserves another shot at this level), Woolfenden (looked decent) and Morris were all sent out on long-term loans. Assorted lower-league dross was hastily signed to pad-out a thin squad. Really poor management. Smacked of someone wanting to shake up the whole squad in an attempt to assert authority.

blueboy1981 added 23:39 - Dec 19 The Championship is a physical League, a slight player such as Nydam has to compensate with that extra bit of skill, and a terrier type presence to survive and impress - otherwise, as someone has already pointed out previously, such a player can too easily be brushed aside and capitalised on. One friendly against West Ham pre season is no acid test of such requirement - but his attitude is impressive. Good Luck to the lad - wish him well.

Steve_ITFC_Sweden added 04:37 - Dec 20 Let's get him back and playing for us - maybe not a regular until he gets a bit older and stronger, but he's always looked decent already and seems to me a very good prospect. Also, as others have noted, he has a good positive attitude, while also coming over as both modest and intelligent. I really hope he will make it for us as a star of the future.

jayessess added 08:12 - Dec 20 Think it's a bit odd to be speculating about whether Nydam's physically up to the Championship when even Mick McCarthy (hardly a manager to indulge twinkle-toed waifs) gave him a dozen starts in the Championship last year.

PositivelyPortman added 11:46 - Dec 20 As I said originally, I'd sincerely love for TN to come back, go straight into the team and really grab his chance. Let's see what PL does shall we? My guess is that he'll say the exact same things that he said about Bishop and Dozzell - that they're not yet quite ready for the rigours of this league. I want to be proved wrong. Now, down vote that.
