Blues Linked With Bridcutt Talks
Saturday, 22nd Dec 2018 19:49

Town are reported to have opened talks regarding the loan signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Liam Bridcutt.

According to Football Insider, the 29-year-old is one of manager Paul Lambert’s top January targets as he looks to strengthen his squad for the second half of the season.

Reading-born Bridcutt is currently out of Forest manager Aitor Karanka’s plans having made only one brief appearance as a sub in the Championship this season in addition to three starts in the Carabao Cup.

Twice-capped Scotland international Bridcutt began his career in Chelsea’s academy and spent time on loan with Yeovil, Watford and Stockport while a player at Stamford Bridge.

Having failed to break into the West Londoners’ first team, Bridcutt moved on to Brighton in 2010 where he made his name during four years at the Amex Stadium.

In January 2014 he moved on to Sunderland for £2.5 million before joining Leeds in November 2015 on loan before making the switch permanent in August 2016. He joined Forest for £1 million in August 2017.

Blues boss Lambert has said adding experience to what are largely youthful midfield options, with the likes of Cole Skuse, Emyr Huws and Tom Adeyemi all out injured, is among his January priorities.

Agree, liked him at Brighton, liked him at Leeds. Lost his way at Sunderland and Forest. Think he's a good player though.

Agree with the comments above. Thought he was a serious footballer who would make it as a top half of the Premiership level pro. If motivated properly by a good manager, with the initials PL perhaps, could be a great signing.

Just goes to show that PL is shopping in the same store the MM had to shop. Experienced pros with a point to prove and not much recent success.

We are desperate in midfield sometimes... All our midfielders need to take a long hard look at themselves. New faces a must!!... then Onwards

I won't get excited until they actually sign. We'll be linked with another 100 players over the next week no doubt.

Liam Bridcutt will be a great acquisition if given game time, would be very pleased if this deal gets done and would bring a bit of grit & steel to the midfield

Do we need yet another midfielder? I would suggest a big targetman and two fullbacks would be areas where we need additions.

Would massively improve our midfield push the boat out Evans. Ffs a striker and defender of similar or better quality and were in with a shout.

He's a deep lying defensive midfielder.....No thanks. Let's move on.

Given where we were at before Lambert got some belief into the team I'm happy to trust his judgement. I just hope Evans is similarly minded and backs him financially.
If we can pick up a couple more wins over Christmas/New Year and get the players in that Lambert wants things will look a lot better in 2019.

No no no no...with a goalscoring record of 3 goals in his whole career. We MUST find players who know where the back of the net is

Lambert has said he is looking to bring in up to 5 players; signing Birdcutt does not mean it will be at the expense of a centre forward, centre half or full back. This is a report of an approach/interest, just like the enquiries about Gestude, Murphy, Cameron-Vickers etc during the week. Some will materialise, some won't, but all reported targets so far have been positive in my opinion.

Just pleased Lambert is looking for experienced championship players & not league 1 & 2 players.
Haven't heard much of Bridcutt but know he's a good player, someone we can benefit from in the midfield. Striker next please!! Maybe rb but think Emmanuel can fill that position quite easily.

If this is a genuine sign that we're going to try & bring in some players early in January, so much the better. Only issue is that the type of player we will be getting probably won't be match fit, but again, the sooner we get them in the quicker they will get up to speed. I can see why Lambert wants to shore up our inexperienced midfield.

In midfield we have plenty of young talent; let's use that! I am more concerned about the defence.

I agree with Ipswichbusiness.
It has not been the League 1 players that have been poor,it has been the experience championship defenders that have been awful all season.
I think we need an experienced striker wh can hold the ball up better but will need to play as part of a 2 up top, but defence is where the problems are. Lazy fullbacks who so not seem able or willing to stop crosses, and a CB skipper (ruined by MM) who is seriously not up to it imo.
Do not need a holding CM as Chalobah has been superb !!!
