Chambers: Club is Being Glued Back Together
Saturday, 29th Dec 2018 10:44

Skipper Luke Chambers believes “the club is being glued back together” with manager Paul Lambert and owner Marcus Evans working in tandem on a long-term project as he goes into what he says are the biggest four months of his career.

The Blues face Middlesbrough at the Riverside this afternoon in 2018’s final match sitting bottom of the Championship seven points plus goal difference from safety.

“The way I see it, the next four months are the biggest of my career,” Chambers told the club website.

“It’s a massive ask for us to get out of it. I think we are in a better position now though to get out of it.

“The belief is there. I feel the club is being glued back together now. The manager is talking long-term about a project here that he can help build and that’s great to hear.

“The owner seems very much in line with that as well. They are working together and things are already taking shape at the training ground in terms of improvements made.

“The manager is taking the club in the right direction and the players want to be part of that. It’s down to us now to get the results we need over the second half of the season to keep us in this division.”

Meanwhile, former skipper Gareth McAuley has been awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours list for services to football in Northern Ireland.

Capped by his country 80 times and having also worn the captain’s armband, McAuley, 39, now with Rangers, was with the Blues between 2008 and 2011, making 126 starts and one sub appearance, scoring eight goals.

Evans won't spend any significant money though?! We will not survive the drop without quality additions next month, not freebies and loans no one else wants. Bizzarely some on here seem ok with that.

If it is true that "the MANAGER is talking about a long-term project," then that is good news indeed.

Paul Hurst was talking long term, looking to bring in new hungry young players replace the 'far too comfortable' senior pros.
Unfortunately senior player power would not allow this to happen as those said players did not want change from the easy ways of the previous incumbent.
Now PL has arrived all is well, everyone plays no matter if the form is good or bad and the senior pros strangely are right behind this.
You are correct Chambo, it is the most important 4 months of your career, as you are not good enough for the Championship and too expensive for League One.
Evans must spend money in January, but it will have to be on loans as no decent player in his right mind would sign permanently for a side at least 2 wins adrift.
Loans with a view to a permanent move is all we can expect and that is not down to Evans being a tight wad !!!

Bluearmy81. The reason fans are happy with loanscin january is because thats the only way we will be able to sign anyone. Its unlikely that any player of any quality would be willing to sign permanently for us, in the position we are in. But if they can come here on loan, or as a short term deal if out of contract, with the possibility of a permanent deal should we somehow manage to stay up, they may sign. Also, paying out large transfer fees and wages for permanent signings would be risking the future of the club, presuming we fail to survive, which seems likely. Anyone who thinks evans should risk the entire future of the club in the hope of a miracle, either simply doesnt realise the gravity of taking that risk or is plain stupid. Evans has to take his share of the blame for accepting hursts transfer policy in the summer, leaving us where we are. But he cannot try to rectify that by spending millions in the vain hope we stay up.

Club was dire 9 months ago, almost seems reborn now. Even if we are bottom this league staring league 1 in the face

Bluearmy... i dont believe that we are going to sign any of the quality we need to stay up! who will want to sign on a permanent basis? What package do we offer when we dont know our budget for next season! But i do believe there could be some quality loan signings to be had in this window!

After all its our last bit of hope for this season IMO

I live in hope, but I don't see anything on the pitch to convince me that we are close to securing NINE wins from the remaining 22 matches, when we have won just TWO of the first 24. That's not a reflection on the manager, or even the players' effort. They are simply not good enough. Stop sending our home-grown players out on loan as most are better than those who are playing.

I'm sorry about Chambers, but my back four would be Kenlock, Woolfenden, Pennington and Emmanuel.

I would save all the money, spend nothing in January and spend it in League One in a concerted effort to get back at the first time, including keeping the infrstructure of the club and the Academy together. If we do it right, we are 90%+ sure to achieve that.

Lord_mac... agree with your defence 100% but i dont agree with accepting relegation, we need to stay up, there are no guarantees we would come back anytime soon! I think we should spend the money on some real quality loans, they must be there!

Yet more words to suggest the mayhem Hurst caused in those 5 months. Never has someone done so much damage. Thank feck Evans had the balls to sack him, just a shame he didn't do it six weeks sooner.

Yet again someone laying the blame at Hurst's door instead of Evans. Before him McCarthy was to blame. Soon it will be Lambert you turn on. Wake up!!! Evans is the single biggest cause of this mess, plain and simple. 10 years of treading water, getting no-where, 6-7 years of austerity football followed by the inevitable, that had been a long, long time coming. Worst thing that ever happened to ITFC. He won't change, if we go down he will continue to underinvest, we will continue to fall and some of you lot, bizzarely will continue to see no fault and back him. Completely mystifying

I've a feeling now that the joint long term view is that there's a pool of exciting young talent emerging that PL will be happy to stay and work with.
That's fantastic, however that probably on the back of Evans telling PL that he won't be investing significantly in January.
The good times Will Return but I'm thinking it will only come after 3 or more seasons in league One.

The way forward is our youth. Aided by one or 2 experienced old pros. Effectively this what norwich did after having to sell their quality premiership stars

Whatever happens before now and may I hope luke stays as part of this club, we all accept he's not the best central defender but is a loyal servant, clubs are built on people like him,

Evans has got to weigh up the cost of relegation against the cost of keeping club in the championship in terms of loan signings/wages etc until end of season.

Aye @SheptontonMallet ---- The for long over-all largely deteriorating Captain himself, aka Captain Calamity, as well as the rest of his frighteningly often toe-curlingly calamitous (but yet absolutely Undroppable???!!!) back-4 , and goalie too btw!, sure could use some ehmm "LOCTITE" ....repeat "LOCTITE" ....wink wink lol ....no ulterior sponsoring intended of course!

Funny how players say the same old thing. Thought they said it was refreshing and great before when PM came in. And before that all was fantastic under MM.
Players only say good things about their present manager.
Take all that talk with large pinch of salt.
I predicted after last win and draw, nothing in the tough 2 away games, then 3 wins on the bounce.
I do believe over long term PL will do very well. And I do believe that he'll will keep us up. I hope so as put £200 on it at 4/1.
