Lambert: Knudsen Might Move in January
Saturday, 29th Dec 2018 18:14

Blues boss Paul Lambert admits Danish international left-back Jonas Knudsen could leave Portman Road during the January transfer window with his contract up at the end of the season.

Lambert changed his back four for the first time since taking over at Town with Myles Kenlock starting ahead of Knudsen, who dropped to the bench.

The Blues manager recently revealed he had recommended that owner Marcus Evans that the Dane, who joined Town from Esbjerg fB in the summer of 2015, should be offered a new deal.

However, the 26-year-old may be unwilling to commit to a new contract with the Blues appearing destined for League One and Town may prefer to accept an offer for him now rather than allow him to leave on a free in the summer.

Lambert admits there is the potential for Knudsen’s departure: “There is that as well, he might move. Nobody knows whether he moves.

“He’s played a lot of football games. I didn’t want to make too many changes at the back but I had to look at Myles as well.

“I thought Myles was excellent, I really did. I thought for his first game was very, very good.

“So, if Jonas goes because of his contract situation there’s nothing we can do, that’s the way the contract situation runs. This is his last year at the club contract-wise. As I’ve said before, I’ll try and be fair with everybody to give them a chance.

“There’s no pressure to let Jonas go or anything, I just thought he’s played a lot of games. I thought Myles was excellent, his delivery was excellent and his defending was very, very good. He’s 21 years of age, another young player but I thought Myles was excellent.”

Knudsen confirmed summer links with Stoke and Middlesbrough were concrete, while FC Copenhagen and FC Midtjylland in his native Denmark and Fortuna Düsseldorf in Germany have been mentioned in connection with him in recent weeks.

Yes!!! If he needs a lift I can get another three in the car as well so Spence Roberts and Nolan may as well take the offer up too.

Did show some promise early on in his town career, and had a couple of good games at centre back, but no where near good enough recently, lacks positioning and concentration.

How will we be able to cope losing the advantage of his long throws. Oh I forgot it has not given us any advantage in the time he has been with us and Kenlock should have been given the opportunity sooner.

Just to play devils advocate, Knudson is not the best left back on the planet but he is very much good enough for League One. Lets not disguise the fact that league one is where we are heading guys/girls. Its not what I / we obviously wanted but facts are what they are and I would now like the Jan signings (Who ever they might be) to be ones that are geared towards getting promotion back to the Championship. Norwich and Man City have been down in the lower divs in the past and look at them now. I actually dont think that this imminent relegation will be the disaster that some suggest. I hope i am right. #COYB #ITFC #ILWT

I would love to see Kenlock hold his place in the team, as he is younger and better going forward. I always thought Knudsen is more solid in defence, but the way the defence has been leaking goals and the way Jonas has been playing this season I would not be sad to see him leave.

Plenty on here would offer him a lift to his next club, however if you think Kenlock is the answer, then you lot are deluded, could never nail down the spot when Jonas unavailable! For all his frailties Knudsen, put the effort in every week, but not great. In final third, which is not his fault, not his game! Good luck to him when he goes

Can't expect Kenlock to be putting in 10/10 displays when he hasn't played for ages and is in a shiit team. Knudsen has never impressed me, but can't help feeling like ME is cashing in to subsidise the January loan signings. Why do we always seem to need to sell someone before we can spend? Anyway, I'm sure whatever ins and outs are done, we will bring in more cash than we spend AGAIN.

@manualthetisfanclub.
Plenty would offer him a lift yes because he is crap in the final third as well as the first third where he's supposed to be at his best. I could go out there and out all my effort in week in week out but I'd hinder the team. Simply not good enough and maybe kenlock isn't the long term answer but at least we could get a proper left back in.

hulltractor. Knudsen will not want to play league one football and they will want to get his wages off the books ASAP. After featuring in the World Cup he seems to think he is a lot better than he is and hasn't been shy at coming forwards about what clubs are interested in having someone throw a ball quite a long way into the hands of a goalkeeper.

Truly awful player. Can't pass can't tackle can't head can't cross can't position can't anticipate. I would like to see a swap trade but I don't believe anyone in this country will want him. Back to Denmark I suspect and we will not miss him at all.

What a load of total whingeing : wouldn't ,sadly , blame any player wanting/ needing to leave this balderdash behind .
The ‘team ‘ ethic and culture was absolutely devastated by the idiot who was last paid as. “manager “,and the aftermath is what we now witness week in week out trying to recover their belief , composure and confidence !
ROME wasn't built in a day !!
Sympathising with the frustration , I can not believe we're again seeing overblown emotion running footloose .
Gat a grip : act as if you know how to believe, how to continue to hope AND how to encourage and support .
