Morris Back From Forest Green Loan
Thursday, 3rd Jan 2019 09:27

Striker Ben Morris has returned to the Blues from his loan at Forest Green Rovers, the League Two club have announced.

Morris, 19, was on a season-long spell with the Nailsworth-based side but with the provision that it could be cut short in January.

A statement on the Rovers site says Morris and Brentford’s Theo Archibald have gone back to their parent clubs “in the interest of them receiving more game time at such a pivotal time in their development”.

Morris made only five starts and three sub appearances for Forest Green, netting his first senior goal in the League Two game at Carlisle.

The frontman, who is cup-tied and so cannot feature at Accrington Stanley at the weekend, will not be able to join another EFL club on loan for the second half of the season under FIFA's three-club rule having featured for both the Blues - a sub appearance against Blackburn on the opening day - and Forest Green. However, he could move to the National League.

Asked whether he might bring Morris, Josh Emmanuel, who is at Shrewsbury, or Luke Woolfenden, currently with Swindon, back to Portman Road to be part of his plans for the second half of the season earlier in the week, Blues boss Paul Lambert suggested otherwise: “They’re kids, you’re calling back kids to help kids. That’s a difficult situation to put anybody in.

“They need a little bit of experience. The younger ones need a little bit of experience to help them.

"A lot of the lads haven’t played at this level. A lot of them came from the lower leagues.

“That’s fine, but they need a bit of help with it and I think that’s what we have to get in, we have to get people who know the league, have played in it or have been around the block a little bit.”

Tristan Nydam’s loan at St Johnstone is up and Lambert hinted that the 19-year-old midfielder could be sent out for another spell rather than remain with the Blues for the same reasons.

Morris has made one start and four sub appearances for the Blues and last month signed a contract which runs to 2021 with the club having an option for a further year.

Meanwhile, the Blues are continuing to discuss striker Will Keane's loan move to Portman Road from Hull City, although we understand there is still a little way to go yet before the move is completed.

Elsewhere, former Blues central defender Joe Robinson, 22, has joined King's Lynn Town from Cambridge City.

Academy product Robinson made one senior appearance for Town, as a sub at Portsmouth in the FA Cup replay in 2016.

Good. Now put him in the senior squad , and give him some game time. You never know we may have our saviour already on our books!!

Excited to see what Woolfenden can do in the future.

The usual issue with young players. Woolfenden - who I have always rated - seems well up to the 4th tier. Nydam wasn't up to the rigours of the Scottish League while Morris wasn't up to League 2. All may develop but need more competitive football so another loan for Nydam & Morris, maybe to a 5th tier club, beckons.

Nowhere near good enough for Championship football as yet! Send them out to lower level Clubs with game time in mind. Valuable experience as next season we will be playing division one football!

Should we get relegated I would love to see a starting XI of:

Bialkowski (or Wright, perhaps more realistically)
Emmanuel, [other], Wolfenden, Kenlock
Downes, Skuse
Edwards, Dozell, Lankester
Harrison/ Sears

Players like Morris should be pretty optimistic that they have a future at the club if we go down, too.

I think Skuse is too near the end of his career to find another club and would be the right pace for League 1. I don't think Chambers is worth keeping on. He has been hopeless this year. Grateful for his service, though.

As Paul Lambert says “They're kids, you're calling back kids to help kids. That's a difficult situation to put anybody in..." Welcome back Ben but we need to be realistic as to his likely impact on the team. It may be a case of preparing for next season. I agree Luke Woolfenden looks to have the most potential at this stage.

Good. Sending teenagers out somewhere totally alien to them, knowing their parent manager doesn't rate them isn't exactly inspirational. Expecting a teenager to fit in with a bunch of strangers and a different playing style isn't terribly realistic either. The only way to find out if he is good enough is to play him - and persevere and encourage. Alien concepts to many modern managers - and fans.

Elder and Keane are hardly the experience we are needing according to Lambert. Even now , we put loans ahead of our own players. We are already relegated , what difference does it make ????

People calling for him to be put into the squad are living in a land of make believe.

We already have 6 youth players in the squad (5 of them started on Tuesday). That's already too many. You can't just shove the youth team onto the pitch and expect great things. Chances are you could ruin their careers (especially as we are now struggling).

If Morris couldn't get a game at Forest Green why do people think he's good enough for us? It's madness.

If we really want our youth to flourish we need them to get first team experience and come into the team when they are ready.

These young players are likely returning as PL has not had an opportunity to cast his eye over them. They are not in my opinion likely to feature until if/when the writing is on the wall in terms of relegation. All part of the bigger picture, not our salvation!

Loaning our younger players out to gain experience in the lower leagues is a good idea provided they get game time. Three of them (Morris, Drinan and Nydam haven't either managed to force their way in or were just used to bulk up their squads in case of an emergency. Hopefully Ben can provide something different up front although PL wants a target man, which may help us out defensively at set plays as well as up front.

Great chance to now put him with a league 1 club for the remainder of the season, to get him upto speed for our new chapter next year.
This applies to all that are currently on loan, not in league 1.
Of course this would have to include a clause that if fit they will be selected.
Much the same as our own onfield leaders clause.
A waste of the season so far for Nydam and Morris.

At this moment he is not what we need. Don't get rid as that has bitten on the @rse many times but he is not ready. His stats for his loan club states this. A massive difference in U23 football and first team

They need to go out on loan. Count the clubs Harry Kane went to and It hasn't done him any harm. It's what's made him IMO

Ben Morris is showing he is a good prospect for the FUTURE he should not be [and Lambert wont] be thrown to the lions because we are desperate. We need experienced battle hardened grafters NOW,if we are to have any chance of staying up, [personally i think its too late , thankyou Paul Hurst ] Our only hope is that we can get some new players in capable of getting a us a few wins and pray that a few other clubs have a real bad run .That is the straw we have to clutch .

As PL says, if and its has become a big IF we are able to manage to avoid the drop we need experienced players brought in for the youngsters to feed off. It has to be said though whatever happens now we have a good amount of young players for the future as long as we can keep hold of them. COYB

Emmanuel should be recalled, he's had plenty of Championship experience and is definitely better than Spence

At 17 George Burley made his debut marking George Best. Maybe he should have been held back until he was at least 22.
How can you learn to swim if you never go I the deep end? Will these youngsters make any worse mistakes than we are already seeing from the experienced guys?

I thought sending Emmanuel out on loan was a strange choice as he had a brilliant season last year on loan and more than ready to play for Town. He must have upset Hurst at the playoffs final to be sent straight out on loan. I'd get him back if we can and shove Spense into the u23 or out on loan to get experience in another club and make the mistakes there.

I'm not sure why people have down arrived my initial comment. I wasn't trying to take the piss! Why not include him in the squad at times? He can't be loaned out again. If yes good enough he'll get his chance.
