Donacien's Leave to Remain Confirmed
Thursday, 3rd Jan 2019 15:38

Blues boss Paul Lambert has confirmed that defender Janoi Donacien has received his permanent leave to remain meaning his summer switch from Saturday’s opponents Accrington Stanley is now a permanent move - with the League One club receiving their £750,000 fee - rather than a loan.

St Lucia-born Donacien has been waiting for confirmation of his permanent leave to remain from the Home Office since the summer.

“I wasn’t part of it so I don’t know the ins and outs of it, I’ve never really worked in a situation where it’s hanging over somebody for that length of time,” Lambert reflected.

“It frees up another loan, but you don’t want to keep going down the loan route. Long-term it’s not healthy for anybody, especially for the club because people come and people go, you don’t get your identity in there.

“The club has to rebuild in a lot of aspects of it and as I said before, as long as I’m here, I’ll give it everything I’ve got, 100 per cent commitment, heart, soul, everything. I really enjoy it here, it’s really good.”

Donacien, 25, is yet to feature for Town under Lambert, his boss for part of his time at Aston Villa as a youngster, but could come into the reckoning against his old club in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Got to be better at RB than Spence!

Every little helps. Still can't believe the time this has taken, or the fact we ended up with so many loans.

But does Pl really want him after all? Only sees him as a c/d behind Tsiala. Soon he may be behind Woolfie too. Like many I thought he did brilliantly at rb home to Villa but he has never been given a run there. even with Spence constantly letting us down in that position. Odd.

I thought Donacien played really well in the games I saw him play. Not sure why Lambert insists on picking Spence over him every week. He's genuinely one of the worst players I've ever seen in an Ipswich shirt.

If we don't play him at Accrington on Saturday, hard to see him ever getting a game. Perhaps we can now loan him out in January?

For me this is main thing PL has got wrong. I would have him in over Spence any day.

Lambert said “For as long as I am here”

Is he gonna stay long term ?

Who knows I hope so but it'll be down to the backing he gets from Evans !

Extremely worrying times here

Good for him.

Though next time to speed things up a little he should just come across on a dinghy

Another astronomically high priced lower league mistake which sees us in our current position. £750k could have bought someone who can make the starting line up in this window. Thanks Hurst - PL obviously knows this guy isn't championship standard. Hopefully we can ship him out for half what we paid?!

Thought he had a solid match against Aston Villa and pretty much marked Adomah out of the game, which is no mean feat.

Sadly no way is he either a left back or centre half. Can't see why Lambert doesn't play him at right back,as Spence is a liability. His positional sense is awful and under any sort of pressure makes too many mistakes.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not holding my breath over this January window and sadly feel after the Millwall catastrophe we are doomed.

Do we really have to take him?? Sorry don't rate him at all, would much rather see a proven Championship right back come in with this man going back up North.

While the manager sees him as a better cb than rb he has to be a better option than the man in the rb shirt!! unless he puts chambo on the bench.

therein61...more chance of Accrington winning the champions league, than the undroppable one sitting on the bench.

What he has done to keep missing out to Spence is anybodies guess

I also feel for Nsiala who looked promising until his sending off

Both these two would have dealt with the physicality of Millwall surely?

Baffled by this one, as others have mentioned Donacien looked quality at the start of the season, then moved over to the left side, then disappeared into oblivion. I remarked to the fella next to me after the villa game that we could play all night and their winger would not get past him, strange, more so with our current R/B shortcomings.

I hope this lad develops his football as he is a decent athlete. Having watched him at close quarters for both the first team @nd under 23 sides he looks along way away from being a first team player. There are first year scholars ahead of him in the pecking order I would imagine. He looks very bit a non leagu player and not particularly accomplished on the ball.

Can't blame Lambert if he does not play or rate him because that useless test Hurst brought him in.but still think he should be given a start in front of Spence.

I think he'll play in Cup so surely that will be his chance to show all what he has to offer. For me Spence is more CB as he showed against Villa whereas at RB he looks uncomfortable plus he cant cope with quick wide men.
Chambers is now feeling the pressure and making mistakes plus he's got Pennington who for me isn't big enough to cope with taller forwards.

Another who could be an asset to us, given game time.

Surely Saturday is a perfect opportunity to give him another look at RB, for me his best position.

Spence has bits to his game that are commendable - lethargy, and concentration being his problem areas.

Personally, I cannot see him overcoming either. He cannot do 90 minutes without suffering from both, which is there for all to see in every game he plays.

I really liked what I saw of him can also play in the centre if needed.

Donacian in and Spence out please.
