Elder Makes Debut and Keane on Bench as Town Make Seven Changes at Accrington
Saturday, 5th Jan 2019 14:20

Callum Elder makes his Town debut as manager Paul Lambert makes seven changes to the Blues side for this afternoon’s FA Cup third round tie away against League One Accrington Stanley. Town’s other new signing Will Keane is among the subs.

Bartosz Bialkowski returns in goal with Elder, who joined on loan from Wigan earlier in the week, at left-back and former Accrington man Toto Nsiala making his first appearance under Lambert at the centre of the defence alongside Matthew Pennington. Dean Gerken, Myles Kenlock and previously ever-present skipper Luke Chambers all drop to the bench. Jordan Spence continues at right-back.

Andre Dozzell and Jon Nolan join Flynn Downes in midfield with Kayden Jackson, who moved to Town from Stanley in the summer, the central striker with Freddie Sears, who will be wearing the captain’s armband for the first time, on the left and Gwion Edwards on the right.

Teddy Bishop and Jack Lankester join Keane, who signed on loan from Hull yesterday, among the subs but there is no place in the 18 for Janoi Donacien, who also joined Town from Accrington in the summer, or Jonas Knudsen, who is expected to leave during the January window.

The Blues’ last win in an FA Cup tie came back in January 2010 when they beat Blackpool 2-1 in the third round at Bloomfield Road during Roy Keane’s time in charge. Since then they have played 13 games (including replays) without recording a victory.

Accrington: Ripley, Johnson, Sykes, Hughes, Richards-Everton, Clark, Finley, Barlaser, McConville (c), Mangan, Kee. Subs: Maxted, Brown, Williams, Mingoia, Perritt, Conneely, Watson.

Town: Bialkowski, Spence, Nsiala, Pennington, Elder, Dozzell, Downes, Nolan, Edwards, Sears (c), Jackson. Subs: Gerken, Chambers, Harrison, Keane, Bishop, Kenlock, Lankester. Referee: Dean Whitestone (Northamptonshire).

Don't care about the result, not important. What I do care about is the seeming lack of desire to win for 1200+ fans who made the trip. 1 up front for 80 minutes??!! Fan of PL but today was a real head scratcher

Thank you Mr Evans for systematically pulling this once proud club apart while you play at being an owner, shame on you.

An opportunity to get a win and create some momentum wasted. So hard being a Town fan. So little joy. Just wish the season was over

PL has inherited some rubbish players but he made unnecessary changes today and played with one striker WHY ??
This is a total embarrassment for supporters of this club .. we would never have been in this plight if MM was still at the helm ! Admittedly the football wasn't pretty but having the choice , what would you prefer now ? League 1 players signed by a totally clueless manager has completed bxxxxx this team up and it will take nothing less than a miracle to turn this around !

So all of you alleged supporters of our club what do you have to say now? Those of you who wanted MM out and there were plenty of you had your way the big man went we got some txxt with no record who you all thought was miracle man now you all blame him for our demise. Evans is the person in control so must take responsibility for everything. He goes out and gets the idiot from Carrot Road whose record is awful sacked from more jobs than hot dinners. Useless tool was never right for the job he got it because he was free. Look around who else was also available at the time we needed a manager and he come at least 5 on my list. No way would we be in the position we are in now with Mick Ma so well done all of you who helped drive him and TC away hope you enjoy the piss take again tonight by excited scum fans go cry in your beer and deflect in the demise in our once great club.

Elizabeth... make no mistake we would still be talking about a loss today had MM been here! And to all you MM lovers i say this! "A ship maybe safe in the harbour but that is not what it was built for" !

Look if we have to spend some time in league 1 to come back a better stronger team then so be it! there is so much work to be done and that is obvious but when we come back it will be better that anything MM would have given us.

Oh dear all those sados don't like the truth thats typical county bumpkin attitude face up to the truth you might then write fact not fiction who want to know about a ship in a harbour? If we'd had that attitude in WW2 we would all be supporting Bayern Munich. Talk football otherwise get the submarine out and sink. Well done Elizabeth your bang on. Won't see me at PR until Lambert and the carrot cruchers are feed to the horses at Newmarket
