Huddersfield Forward Quaner Linked
Sunday, 6th Jan 2019 10:24

Huddersfield forward Collin Quaner is reportedly among Town’s January targets, while the Blues are also keeping tabs on Boreham Wood keeper Ryan Huddart.

According to the Sunday Mirror Town are hoping to sign Quaner along with Cardiff’s Anthony Pilkington, who as previously reported is understood to be in talks regarding a loan move.

Düsseldorf-born Quaner, 27, was with his local club Fortuna as a youngster but only ever featured for their second team before moving on to Arminia Bielefeld, FC Ingolstadt, Hansa Rostock (loan), VfR Aalen and then Union Berlin.

The 6ft 3in forward, who plays down the centre or, as has usually been the case with the Terriers, out wide, moved to Huddersfield in January 2017, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal and featured throughout the rest of that season - 12 starts, 10 sub appearances - as the Terriers won promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, adding three goals to the nine he had scored for Union in the first half of the campaign.

Last season he made 13 starts and 13 sub appearances in the Premier League, in addition to five cup starts, without scoring. During 2018/19, Quaner has made only two sub appearances in the Premier League.

Another big frontman may well still be on manager Paul Lambert’s January wish list despite having recruited Will Keane from Hull City on loan on Friday. Quaner’s name has been floating around social media for several days in connection with Town.

Keeper Huddart joined Vanarama National League Boreham Wood after being released by Arsenal in the summer.

The Blues are understood to have been keeping a watching brief on the 21-year-old, who previously had a spell on loan at Eastleigh.

Len Brennan. Think it,s been said quite a few times on here is that McCormack is a divisive influence in the dressing rooms of various clubs he,s been at, which is probably why he shunts around all the time. That sort of player we can do without at this depressing time. Remember Chopra?

If only My Aged Ma hadn't died last year. She was only 97 and had loads of time on her hands.

ronnyd: That's fair comment, attitude is hugely important when building a team. I just wonder if we are not in a desperate times need desperate measures type of a situation at this point though. I don't think McCormack is quite in the Chopra category & I'd only be suggesting a short term loan to the end of the season. He has the quality & would surely be looking to impress for one last contract of substance during the summer.

Thaiblue...many on here, myself included are heart broken and we are looking for clinging to any shred of hope. we dont know much about him and the reason for that is obvious 2 goals in 42 games at championship level! We need goals, thats half the amount Tommy Smith scored for us and he is a defender!

You are saying trust Lambert, i did but now its starting to wane and i will tell you why! 7 changes, kenlock dropped, spence kept in and one up front! there isnt enough depth in our team to change a losing team, that at times have been looking better( but for stupid mistakes) for getting a result!

Why does he persist in playing spence we have better or could have ( Emmanuel). My Faith in Lambert will diminish even more if he persists in playing the habitual offenders when he does have better options!

Personnally believe many are missing the point, the problem lies with ‘culture', too many players feel rather ‘comfortable' at Ipswich, lacking passion, drive and commitment ! It stems from the top, and spreads its way down! In McCarthy's first 18 months he turned the club upside down and shook it some more! Sadly thereafter he succumb to the ‘spell' over Ipswich, a sleepy Town club residing in the county of Suffolk not overly concerned about winning ‘3 points'!!!!!!

We have to trust in PL. He inherited a situation that has complex history. Going to take time to dig us out of this hole and some players will naturally not be attracted to us at the moment. We also need to clear out the deadwood. However, Evans has to be at the centre of this and now is time to show if you have what it takes and this is not some convenient tax solution.

I'm 99% Lambert. This will tumble if he picks the 11 I think he will pick v the mighty Rotherham.
The thought of Spence and Chambo playing in what could be a season decider is alarming.
It's also alarming to think of who could fill the other 9 positions.
But I suppose that's where we are, in regards to any quality at our disposal.

think we've discussed how bad all our squad are and they need to go elsewhere to thrive. When put in a team together my 5 aside team has more about them, and we are rubbish but still top of our league

I don't know anything about this guy's scoring record apart from what I read here, but actually, when I've seen him come on as sub (on TV, obviously), I've thought he was quite a handful. I see him more as a wide right player rather than a centre forward. I think he'd be a good addition. We must trust PL's judgement - he's been around a while.

Danielle van de Donk from Arsenal ladies would be worth a punt.

Right now we have a tiny squad full of dead wood. I'm sure PL is aware of players from lower leagues who are potential gems, I'm also sure there are some bigger targets we aren't yet aware with high level experience. Don't go just on tabloid rumours.

Blue Herts - Alex Neil more savvy than Hurst obviously. And the bottom line we got knobbed on Kayden Jackson deal. P'Boro chairman leeway said he had. done deal for him at £500k - so why on earth did Evans let Hurst paid 3 times as much fro a striker that scored 16 in LEAGUE 2?!!!

Money would have been better spent offering MacG a bumper new contract..

@Phil didn't we have a year option on MacG?

And yes before everybody says to he wanted to leave but as an employee money often talks..

Warkys_Tash added 17:34 - Jan 6
This Quaner guy might be quality, lets be honest after Jewell had stuck Murphy out on the wing at Own and he couldn't score in a brothel, would on here can honestly say they wanted him back for a 3rd loan? Turned out to be one of or nest strikers , along with MacG, since Stewart..

And don't forget MacG came in Jan... so there is hope people. Only a glimmer but there is hope. The biggest threat to our club right now is losing Lambert - If Evans doesn't back him.

Len Brennan, Ronny D - McCormack isn't the answer - dont you think other Champ clubs would be in for him ahead of us? Great goalscorer but if I remember rightly, did turn up for training as he was 'locked' inside his electric gates?

I'd scale those gates, hitch-hike/walk to to training ground, borrow some boots and turn up in my underpants to play for for Town - as would 90% on here.

We need players who want to come and fight. It proved it against Millwall. We outplayed them with nice football first half but needed some big ugly strong men to scrap it out in the 2nd, which unfortunately we didn't have.

When we were top of the league 4 years ago, you looked at the team and we were powerful and athletic.. Bart, Mings, Parr, Berra, Chambers, Skuse, Murphy, McGoldrick, Anderson - even Tabby could tackle and run all day..

We also had skill and goals in that team.. Standing in the tunnel pre-match we looked like men.. Thats what Lambert needs right now.. battlers, goals, survival...

Then rebuild and play pretty football in the summer... It aint over just yet, we have to believe.. 20 games to go and we need 4th place..

We need DEFENDERS !!!

One RB and 2 x CB if Donacien and Nsiala are not going to play !!!
Get defenders who can defend and allow the offensive players to do what they are good at.

Let the wingers create chances for the TWO strikers (not defend) !!!

We were in a strong buying position in the Summer. And bought a bunch of lemons. We are now in a weak position. What is the incentive for anyone in a half decent League 1 or 2 team to come?

Watched my son Oscar play in goal for Morley under 10s. Norfolk based team as I live here and he pulled off a string of fine saves in his replica Bart kit. Very brave diving at opponents feet with no fear. In five to six years he will be 6ft 1- 6ft 2 and training for town! Remember the name OSCAR SADLER.. Would it be worth taking him down now to get in first team? COYB

I don't know what people expect given where we are in the table and where we are likely to be in the future.

For me: Sears, Jackson, Harrison and Keane will be ok in league 1 next season. Not fantastic but adequate. Other positions on the pitch should take priority for next season. RB, LB, CB, CM and winger high up on that list. Strikers will do ok.
