Lambert: I Can Still Keep Town Up With Hard Work and Financial Support
Monday, 7th Jan 2019 10:41

Boss Paul Lambert insists he can still keep the Blues in the Championship with hard work and “financial support over the next few weeks” of the transfer window, despite believing he has never had to “rebuild a club or turn things around as much” as he does at Town.

The Blues' season of woe hit another low at Accrington Stanley on Saturday when they were beaten 1-0 by the League One club to exit the FA Cup at the first hurdle for the ninth successive season.

Town, bottom of the table, 10 points plus goal difference from safety, face a crucial game against fourth-bottom Rotherham United at Portman Road on Saturday at which the club are staging a ticket promotion.

“I still believe I can keep this club in the Championship,” Lambert said. “It’s going to take a lot of hard work and I need financial support over the next few weeks of the window, but it can be done.

“I came into this job with my eyes open. I knew it was going to be difficult, but it’s only when you go into the fabric of the club that you truly understand what you are dealing with.

“What has gone on here in the past is not acceptable. There has got to be a lot of changes going forwards.

“First things first, we need more bodies in as fast as possible. I have never had to rebuild a club or turn things around as much as I do here. But I know it can be done.”

The Blues have already added Hull City striker Will Keane and Leicester City left-back Callum Elder to their squad during the window.

On Saturday, Lambert said he hoped to add “a couple” of further signings early this week with Cardiff City winger Anthony Pilkington and Huddersfield forward Collin Quaner among those understood to be in talks.

Saying all the right things. Hope it translates onto the pitch with results.

What's gone on previous is unacceptable?
Like letting 3 of our better players/leaders leave over past few years, for what £3m total and not replacing. (Murphy, Smith, Berra).
All over seen on MM watch.
To buy those 3, with the quality they had when they left, in this window would cost £15m minimum.
Agreeing to the move requests of Waghorn, Garner, Webster, Mcgoldrick. All over seen on MM watch. Paul Hurst copping the blame from supporters, when decision made months beforehand.

@TWTD Phil - You are regularly down the ground, in fact every week.. is there anyway you can get a message over to Evans from us fans? We really believe this is last chance saloon.

Who nows if he even reads the comments on here but you are our voice...

We absolutely love this manager and believe he is the man to get us not only out of this hole but to rebuild and become a force once again - However, we are all terrified he will walk away if he get hoodwinked by Evans...

Surely Evans doesn't want a failure on his hands? He is a hugely successful businessman..

@bergholt Blue, 15 point sanction for Birmingham might help us.. and if Bolton also get docked, assuming their £5M might run out soon, then we might only be fighting to stay out of one relegation spot! Game on :-)

I anticipate that PL will conclude that the monkeys who have overseen our club's decline are not worthy to act as his employer. He will therefore see no alternative other than to leave, rather than continue to be associated with self-inflicted failure. Very sad.

If Marcus Evans had been a true leader and serious about success with this football club maybe he should of relocated to Suffolk and be hands-on. Instead of employing PR puppets he should of appointed an experienced director of football. Maybe he should of been involved to maintain, nurture and promote the clubs history, fan base and identity. A club that means so much to a community and the town. Instead of that he decided to distance himself and run the club his way. It has not worked and many feel it never will work. Something has to give and sadly it is now a poor product to try and sell to to the people of this town. Just too many wrong decisions after the club going into administration. A football club that went from richness to rags. We can only hope that Paul Lambert sticks around to try and sort this mess out. First move is to finally rid the club of the under achievers.

Not really sure what to say here, only up to a week ago PL has been saying things like we are playing great, all the lads have been magnificent could not have asked for more, we are in a good place the lads are in a good place, all we need is a little bit of help, we are so close to being a great team! and there are more things i can think of, we all can. THe first half at reading was superb but the "best football i have seen from one of my teams" quote was quite simply an exaggeration!

Now its gone to the biggest rebuilding project ever taken on by PL. I think to put it all into perspective, he is now telling the truth where as up until a week ago he was not, i mean no one is that blind are they?

I just hope that now the brown stuff is well truly all over the fan, Evans backs PL!

Do you think Mmc sanctioned,/organised the sale of Waggy etc as a final "up yours "to the Town fans?
He seemed very well liked within the club but clearly, and for good reason the fans had lost it with him and his style.
Genuine question, no side on it.

He bought Wags, Garns, and Webster for how much? And sold them for how Much?
He knew he wouldn't be around following season. Granted their wishes. And great to add to cv.
Paul Hurst was blameless in the sale of the 3 mentioned.
