Lankester Signs Another New Deal
Monday, 7th Jan 2019 16:46

Blues forward Jack Lankester has put pen to paper on a new contract which runs to the summer of 2022, with the club having an option for a further season, less than five months after he signed his first pro deal.

Bury St Edmunds-based academy product Lankester has been rewarded for a first half of the season in which he has broken into the first team and has cemented his place in the senior squad.

“Obviously I am delighted to have signed a new contract,” Lankester told iFollow Ipswich.

“It was always my target to try and get involved with the first team by the end of the season, so it’s been a welcome surprise for the opportunities I’ve had to come around a lot quicker.

“I know I’ve got a long way to go yet though, and have a lot to prove but I’ve got good people around me - my family and the players here - to help me.

“While I’m pleased personally with the progress I’ve made, the most important thing now is getting the results we need to start climbing the table. I just want to do the best for the team I can to help us achieve that.”

Lankester, who grew up supporting the Blues and whose grandfather was an amateur goalkeeper at the club in the 1960s and father was a schoolboy with Town in the 1980s, joined the academy aged just six.

The 18-year-old, the first player born in the 2000s to feature and score for the Blues first team, has now made four starts and five sub appearances and scored his first senior goal in the New Year’s Day game against Millwall.

Yep, agreed ShropshireBlue. Clearly pushed for that and good on him for doing so. Most sensible move to come out of the club for some time...

securing a good asset there, one of the brighter things to come out of this glum season

One of the few shining lights from a dismal season. He'll get better educated playing first team football in League One with us than playing for any Premier League club's U23 side.

Great news,we need to build the team around Lankester, along with
Downes,Bishop and Dozzell, still need a whole new defence though in our quest to return to the championship at the first attempt.

Whilst we know Lambert's going to try bring more experience in, It is not bad to look and think come next season (likely in league 1) we'll have the likes of Lankaster, Dozzell, Bish, Downes, Woolfenden, Emmanuel, Kenlock and so on.
Some real prospects that I believe Lambert can help push on.

I dont want to be the rain cloud here, but part of me fears that this may be more of a transfer value booster, especially given how soon after his last pro deal was agreed.

great , but as we know - 'if' we go down then the vultures will be circling

He could turn out the best of the lot - we have some decent young strikers and midfielders in our squad and academy

I hope PL does stay cos that would be a big factor in them staying

Good luck Jack - long may you stay ! Local lad

This can only be good news. Looks our best young prospect at the moment and he's a home-grown ITFC fan to boot. Good luck, Jack.
