Lankester Signs Another New Deal
Monday, 7th Jan 2019 16:46

Blues forward Jack Lankester has put pen to paper on a new contract which runs to the summer of 2022, with the club having an option for a further season, less than five months after he signed his first pro deal.

Bury St Edmunds-based academy product Lankester has been rewarded for a first half of the season in which he has broken into the first team and has cemented his place in the senior squad.

“Obviously I am delighted to have signed a new contract,” Lankester told iFollow Ipswich.

“It was always my target to try and get involved with the first team by the end of the season, so it’s been a welcome surprise for the opportunities I’ve had to come around a lot quicker.

“I know I’ve got a long way to go yet though, and have a lot to prove but I’ve got good people around me - my family and the players here - to help me.

“While I’m pleased personally with the progress I’ve made, the most important thing now is getting the results we need to start climbing the table. I just want to do the best for the team I can to help us achieve that.”

Lankester, who grew up supporting the Blues and whose grandfather was an amateur goalkeeper at the club in the 1960s and father was a schoolboy with Town in the 1980s, joined the academy aged just six.

The 18-year-old, the first player born in the 2000s to feature and score for the Blues first team, has now made four starts and five sub appearances and scored his first senior goal in the New Year’s Day game against Millwall.

another one that will up for sale, and the money will be invested not in the squad but some bank account far away.

Well done Jack, you've got a bright future ahead. It was a shame that your goal didn't lead to 3 points but not your fault, the rest let you down.
Play with skill, determination and without fear to achieve your dream.

Great news! One if not the only bright spark indeed. Takes people on, shoots, can take set pieces - looks the real deal.

Agree the team needs to be built around him and Dozzell moving forward. Honestly not sure about Downes - doesn't score or create and I'm not sure he's an enforcer either. Gets a lot of game time and is shaping up to be the next Luke Hyam without the injuries IMO. Would like to see him get beyond the last man and try to score as ITFC clearly lack any form of goal from CM nowadays even though we are playing 3 in there. Or move aside and give Nydam a run, who Paul Blurst decided would be better off in Scotland on the bench... Hmmm I wonder why he didn't work out!

one of the few diamonds in a cesspool of a season.

PL “Marcus, we have an outstanding young player who can help us get back to where we should be”.
ME “How much can you sell him for in 2 years when we are in Lesgue 2?...ooooh ok sign him up”.

one small glimmer in our very ropey squad.. Can't see much else to be positive about YET. Waiting for the small flood of players to leave, hope they don't hang around..

Great signing. Silly question but I thought our owner was going to say more this season after Mick left? So please someone explain why he's hiding AGAIN When we really need to hear from him??

Great news it really is, very few reasons to smile this season.

Played against his dad, good player but an amazing squash player!

This is great and well deserved news for Jack and the club. His Grand Dad Jimmy, a former Mercia League Town goalkeeper, and also a very good Tower Ramparts School winger...it's in the genes.

Instigated no doubt by Paul Lambert, which demonstrates that Paul sees his job at Ipswich in the longer term? Hope so!
