Town Face Competition For Pilkington From Latics
Tuesday, 8th Jan 2019 22:39

Town are facing competition for Cardiff City winger Anthony Pilkington from another Championship club TWTD understands to be Wigan Athletic.

Talks regarding the 30-year-old's switch to the Blues remain ongoing, Pilkington having previously played for Town boss Paul Lambert at Norwich City.

However, the Republic of Ireland international hails from Blackburn and it may be that a move back to the North West closer to his family appeals as he makes his decision on his future.

The Latics and local rivals Rovers were both linked with Pilkington at the end of last week.

Pilkington is out of favour at Cardiff, having not featured at any stage for the Premier League side this season.

The Blues are hoping to take on the remaining months of his Cardiff contract, which is up in the summer, in much the same way as they did with the signings of Mustapha Carayol and Stephen Gleeson last January.

Did you mean cost jpring?

I suppose his wages might be an issue.

We do not need any more wide players. I'm sure he would be a valuable, experienced addition, but we have loads of wide players, that can fill in for the regulars. Sorting the defence out MUST be the priority at this point!

Marcus strikes again. Suppose we should be used to losing out to big clubs like Wigan by now!! PL said we had targets lined up and he wanted them in early January. Suspect he is finding out why we are in such a mess now.

If that word is the one I am thinking of you should be banned from this site, there is no reason to use language like that.

How about the fans in the B R stand holding a banner up with the words ( where are you Evans let's be having you ) in other words spend some money on players instead of loans us fans deserve it

Sorry for what ? I'm just annoyed we have competition for a player who is definitely better than what we have currently in midfield. I was not calling anyone a c..t just the situation regarding this transfer or the season as a whole is a bit of a c..t. Not sure how that was difficult to understand.

I am more than hoping that we keep Bishop and Huws fit rather than relying on getting more players in. With these two back it would be like 2new signings plus Scuse returning we could have a decent midfield who already know how PL wants to play.
Better midfielders and forwards who can hold the ball would give our battered defence a much needed break during games. That said I would still like a decent right back to replace Spense and a proven goal scorer come in. Then maybe a miracle may happen

Oh well if the two other clubs involved are close to us home we frankly don't stand a chance, given our current position , compared to day Blackburn and undoubtedly wages offered. Nice while it lasted ( the link), but I'm personally not holding out much hope.

Go on Pilks, prove me wrong .

The problem with missing out on Pilkington is he wasn't a loan.
How many permanent players will we land this window?
Evans won't want to commit and players may not want to sign for 6 months.
That leaves us with loans and of the 5 we've got, Pennington and Elder are the only ones who I can see dropping out of the squad altogether.

why don't Wigan just Foxtrot Oscar?! They made a meal of things for us in the summer with getting Garner late AND nicking Windass from under our noses - so IF Pilkington doesn't come to us I hope he goes anywhere but there

I was positive and holding out for Pilkington, hope we're not going to lose out here.

Not heard of any aces up sleeves so it's worrying, frankly.

Have nothing against Dawkins....but think if we miss out on Pilkington we will sign Dawkins.

I was positive and holding out for Pilkington, but not positive anymore.

No other links, so can see the club spinning the signing of Dawkins. Not been impressed with this Jan transfer window yet but plenty of time to go I suppose.

Should imagine that the others are not just going to pick up his remaining contract but also a view to a new contract from the summer onwards. Something we will have difficulty in doing given where we sit in the league. Only positive note is that he was successful under Lambert and probably the best spell of his career, that will count for something in his considerations. What will be will be.

Centre Backs Please, although good to see he is looking at the "Woolf" for a week (from Swindon)
