Blues MD Milne to Step Down Thursday, 10th Jan 2019 10:50
Town have announced that managing director Ian Milne will be stepping down at the end of the month after six years in the position.
Having been a board member since Marcus Evans's 2017 takeover, Milne, 66, was appointed joint-MD alongside Jonathan Symonds in February 2013 following chief executive Simon Clegg's departure, before taking the role on alone in the summer of 2015.
“We have discussed for some time Ian’s role ending in the summer,” Blues owner Evans told the club site.
“However with a new manager recently appointed and Lee O’Neill taking on a wider role across the club as general manager football operations, it feels appropriate that we bring Ian’s departure forward.
"""In due course I will be considering the appropriate appointment of a new MD, however I already have a close and growing relationship with the manager, the academy team and Lee on the football side and this change will mean I will also, for now, have the opportunity to work more closely with the key people running the off-field parts of the club to help them carry out their own plans for ongoing improvements for the benefit of the club and our fans.
“Ian has been a great support to me in his role at the club as well as in my wider group over the last 20 years and he will always be welcome at Portman Road. We all wish him well for the future.” ""
Milne added: “I have thoroughly enjoyed the role of MD at such a great club and working with all my colleagues who have such great talent.
""“I would also like to thank Marcus for the support he has given me in carrying out this position over the years.
“Despite the club currently having a difficult time on the field, I know with Paul Lambert in charge and the continued backing from everybody at the club, Ipswich Town will be successful again.”
In addition to O’Neill’s new role, owner Evans has been playing a more hands-on role at Town in recent months.

Guthrum, I agree with you,I have also met him at shareholder meetings and found him to be a very approachable, understanding, and a very likeable person. We have to remember M E was his boss and He acted on his instructions.
While I can see a lot of criticisms, deals have been more effectively closed than with his predecessor, however the turnstiles now need a new coat of paint. Remember that's the MD's job, funding is the owner's role.
Paul Lambert goes into Evans office ,spots man in broom cupboard. Whose that in the cupboard? he asks , .OH ,ermmmm oh that will be Ian Milne,.says Evans. What does he do ? asks Paul. Oh mmmmm , nothing really, i just use him now and again to move dirt about. Right says Paul, do we really need him ? No not really i suppose, says Evans, but he makes the cupboard look useful ..
Times they are a changing.................lets just hope it's for the better. Incidentally scapegoating Milne for the on field problems is stupid, players need to start stepping up and accepting responsibility for these poor performances, whatever the reasons lets hope for a better finish to the season. COYB!!!!
not a tear to be shed here never did anything of note for the club, only contribution was the odd dull interview stating things we all knew to be either untrue or unattainable
Obviously had talents, but either kept them hidden or was not allowed full discretion .It has seemed so clear for a very long time that many maintenance jobs around PR were going unattended , & it was not clear why ; can't believe IM was unaware , BUT throughout he hasn't exactly shone as leader ,and should have been more effective publicly in troubled times. So IM enjoy retirement , I'm sure there must be lots you have achieved at ITFC, and it's not been an easy role .

Completely useless individual with no knowledge of football whatsoever ( as was his predecessor Clegg) pleased to see him gone, who is going to organise painting the turnstiles now?
