Judge Signing Confirmed
Monday, 14th Jan 2019 20:09

Town have confirmed the signing of winger Alan Judge from Brentford for a nominal fee, on a deal until the end of the season plus a year’s option.

Republic of Ireland international Judge, who was out of contract at Griffin Park at the end of the campaign, has made only made only seven starts and 17 sub appearances for the Bees this season, scoring twice.

Explaining Judge's Bees exit, Brentford manager Thomas Frank told their official site: “Alan has been a great player for Brentford for many years. He clearly loves the club and has given his all for Brentford.

"I know he has had some great moments at Brentford and I would like to wish him all the best for the future. I have enjoyed working with him during my time at Brentford.

“Alan has battled his way back from a very serious injury and is now fully fit.

"He has been able to contribute for us this season but there are players ahead of him at this time.

"Ipswich is somewhere he can go to get more football than he is likely to get here, and it is a good opportunity for him."

The former Blackburn, Plymouth (loan) and Notts County man, who will wear the number 31 shirt while with the Blues, suffered a broken leg at Portman Road in April 2016, an injury which kept him out of first-team action until January 2018.

Dubliner Judge, Paul Lambert's sixth signing of the January transfer window, previously came close to joining the Blues from the Magpies in the summer of 2013, however, he instead returned to Blackburn, where he had previously been a youth player, for a second spell.

I am delighted with this signing, but surprised how short the contract is. I suppose it indicates the fee must be really low as otherwise we would have wanted to secure our investment more.

The sort of addition you'd be happy with anywhere on the table. COYB

Quality signing, if it does go tits this season we are building a capable squad for the next one. New signings need match time and pronto, let's hope they hit the ground running then it could be game on.

A solid signing who will bring more creativity to the midfield! Happy with this one! Just a shame we are now targeting the kind of players we should have been in the summer with one or 2 from the lower leagues to bed in and groom.. however clearly hurst didn't have the pulling power when it came to championship players! A couple more and we really will give ourselves the best chance to stay up! COYB

Better than Pilkington if he stays fit.

As he is recovering from serious injury makes sense to have a short time contract, otherwise if things go wrong we could be left with another Adeyemi

Think this will see Chalobah phased out the team with a combination of 3 of 4 from Judge, Skuse, Huws, Downes being first picks for the 3 midfield positions. Still an option now for a 5th loanee as right back.

Well done Town! Thanks Marcus Evans for backing Lambert.

Always rated Judge, quality player - lets hope he still has it. Has also played part in 25 of the matches this season so is likely to be match fit & ready for Blackburn. The Irony of it..

Mark, I think its a great contract idea, signed until end of the season on a perm if he is not the player he was or we can't afford his wages next season it ends there. If it goes well we have the option and a new longer contract could be negotiated - great way to do business. You can tell Lambert is having a major influence on looking after the clubs interests.

I would have still preferred Pilkington as he showed his class for Wigan against Villa but Judge is a quality signing and a good bit of business by Lambert. Welcome Alan, please score some goals and help keep us up.

Hopefully he can get back to the sort of form he was in before getting the injury.

Well done PL and ME for making this happen. Welcome on board Alan, lets hope you can recreate some of your better football again.
Good to see that Marcus Evans is fully supporting PL in giving the club a fighting chance of survival. You have come under a lot of flack of late but credit where credit is due to 6 new players in this window so far.

Judgement day's arrived!

Great news that he's passed his medical, and joins on a sensible initial deal. Form might be temporary, but quality's permanent, and that's something we need, together with experience and C'ship nous. So, welcome AJ - best wishes and good luck as a Tractor Boy.
