Judge Signing Confirmed
Monday, 14th Jan 2019 20:09

Town have confirmed the signing of winger Alan Judge from Brentford for a nominal fee, on a deal until the end of the season plus a year’s option.

Republic of Ireland international Judge, who was out of contract at Griffin Park at the end of the campaign, has made only made only seven starts and 17 sub appearances for the Bees this season, scoring twice.

Explaining Judge's Bees exit, Brentford manager Thomas Frank told their official site: “Alan has been a great player for Brentford for many years. He clearly loves the club and has given his all for Brentford.

"I know he has had some great moments at Brentford and I would like to wish him all the best for the future. I have enjoyed working with him during my time at Brentford.

“Alan has battled his way back from a very serious injury and is now fully fit.

"He has been able to contribute for us this season but there are players ahead of him at this time.

"Ipswich is somewhere he can go to get more football than he is likely to get here, and it is a good opportunity for him."

The former Blackburn, Plymouth (loan) and Notts County man, who will wear the number 31 shirt while with the Blues, suffered a broken leg at Portman Road in April 2016, an injury which kept him out of first-team action until January 2018.

Dubliner Judge, Paul Lambert's sixth signing of the January transfer window, previously came close to joining the Blues from the Magpies in the summer of 2013, however, he instead returned to Blackburn, where he had previously been a youth player, for a second spell.

Saw him earlier in the season against Birmingham and was way off the pace as he was when he came on as sub against us,...played a lot of games this season just as a substitute. Maybe he's not as good as before his leg break?

Anyway wish him all the best, welcome Alan!

Superb signing, well done to all concerned for making it happen. Will no doubt need a bit of time to get up to full speed. Despite being an awful injury it's the type that players recover fully from, not recurring. Feels like a new season all of a sudden! Great to see PL's plans come to fruition, all too often managers talk is just that.

Ronnyblue......Williams ?

It's nice that we are beating other clubs for players signatures. I watched his interview and he appeared to be very happy about signing for us. Good work Pl and ME who appears to be buying into the new managers thoughts!

Welcome to ITFC fingers cross he helps to settle our midfield a bit over run 2nd half Saturday. Like a previous post I'm also wondering who is going out now especially with Dozzell rumours and Bart not playing.

I just hope fans don't get too carried away. I was there Saturday and we were awful in the second half (apart from the defence obviously). It's going to take time for the new players to reach match fitness. We have a lot of difficult games in the run in and they will get tougher as the season goes on with teams fighting for every point. I pray for a miracle.

I've always said Paul Lambert was a good judge of a player but the jury's out on this one the sentence has already been passed.

As said don't expect miracles from him...a reason why he wasn't starting in a lot of games this season...

hope he does play better for us.

kIRBMEISTER I was there too and couldnt agree more, I saw it as rather than inviting all the pressure on if we had of had an attacking outlet in midfield to hit them on the counter or even just press them back. We could have made that a lot more comfortable than it was.
This is where players such as Huws, Bishop and now Judge should be comfortably able to do and theyre all our own players. At some point in the not too distant future were going to have them all on the pitch and give that opposition team a whooping i really do belive that.

This could be like the McGoldrick situation who was in and out of our team, never really at his best always injured yet a move done him the world of good and he has had a resurgence in his game. Hopefully come the end of the season we will be able to say he has been a very good signing!

If this means no more Freddie that is an added bonus----perhaps we can offload him this window for some money!

Well done Lamby for persuading all these players to join us considering where we are at--I really feel we now have a genuine chance of staying up.

Great signing. Welcome aboard. Not good enough for Brentford, but he'll do us.

Very sensible contract. If it works out, wonderful. If not, then we haven't blown too much dosh. Let's hope AJ can re-find his form with us. If he can, he'll be a massive asset. Good luck, Alan!

Yep - fairly balanced post that - Dissboy, might take a bit of time to bed in with his recent form and not starting a lot of games.
