Blues Among Clubs Linked With Barry Town Full-Back
Wednesday, 16th Jan 2019 14:33

Town are reported to be one of a number of clubs to have been keeping tabs on Barry Town full-back Macauley Southam-Hales, who Aston Villa are said to be trying to sign.

The 22-year-old has helped his side to the top of the Welsh Premier League this season and, according to Football Insider, has caught the eye of Villa, who are working on a deal to sign him during this window, as well as the Blues, Bolton and Barnsley.

The former Cardiff City youngster and Wales youth international has switched from playing in midfield to right-back having joined Barry in 2007.

Although Villa may seem more attractive, he's got to consider his chances of playing time. There he's up against 50 cap Scotland international and former Tottenham star, Alan Hutton. Here he's up against Spence!

That said, perhaps if Villa signed him, they might let us have Hutton!

Northstander - why would Kenlock be a better RB option when he's left footed?

Lambert you crazy crazy fool, a right back , a defender and an attacking midfielder its almost like youve looked at what we need and are trying to put appropriate players in those spots!!

is this what management is??

Well this is all very confusing.

His club's name sounds like it should be his own name and his own name sounds like it might get read out during the classifieds at 4.45 on a Saturday afternoon.

And he joined Barry in 2007 (aged 10 going on 11 if he's 22 now) and switched from midfield to right-back. That's fair enough for one day but on other days wouldn't he have to play between the jumpers as a sticky-keeper and other days when he was the one with the longest pants he'd have to be the lad who fetches the ball when it gets kicked into the nettles?

Apart from that yeah a right back would be great!

Don't really see the point in this one. Surprising that Barry Cotter hasn't got a look in this season considering how impressive he was in McCarthy's last game. Josh Emmanuel and Dylan Crowe coming through who all have potential as well.

I'm guessing James Collins may have recommended this signing to Lambo

Anyone but not Spence. He's had loads of chances to show he is capable.

As an avid watcher of the Welsh premier League both in person and on TV I can tell you this makes a lot of sense he is a RB of which atm in lamberts eyes we only have Spence who has been poor plus Doutham-Hales is a player that is good with his feet and can pass the ball so playing out from the back will be more natural to him than maybe it is to cotter and we know Lambert likes to pass it out from the back, he is very athletic and can get up/down the pitch, plus coming from a side who are shocking the Welsh Domestic circle by being top above professional teams like TNS and Connahs Quay he will be high on confidence, plus coming from the WPL league one is still a fairly big step up should we go down he'd wanna stay I should imagine, the deal will also be very cheap as Barry won't stand in his way to sign a professional contract as he's only Semi-pronatm plus he was part of the Cardiff City youth academy untill two years against (he's only 22) so has been around a championship type club before

Playing WPL semi pro at 22yrs old? Not sure about this one. Having said that I know nothing more about the guy than I've read on here so doesn't qualify me as a critic! PL has been superb through this transfer window so trust his judgement on this one.....should anything happen of course!

Just seen Stephane Mbia is now a free agent. Could be the midfield enforcer we need?

Hmmm., as long as we're sure. Signing players from lower leagues is a strategy that has not really served us well recently. I'd rather plum for a 'dogs of war' approach, just to dig us out and then leave the proper re-build for the Summer.

Spence has show that he's capable. Of making very costly mistakes and going missing.

I really don't know why people keep mentioning Spence, we all know he's cr@p and shouldn't be anywhere near the first team. Having said that he shouldn't be anywhere near the club. Let's hope he's out through the revolving door soon.

Sorry, can we stop looking at potential. We have a clear and present danger of being relegated that needs addressing with solid experienced players who want to come to ITFC..
We have buckets of potential in the Academy. Or we could ditch our academy like Brentford... https://www.theguardian.com/football/football-league-blog/2018/aug/08/football-l
