Emmanuel Recalled From Shrews Loan
Friday, 18th Jan 2019 16:07

Town have recalled right-back Josh Emmanuel from his loan spell at League One Shrewsbury.

Emmanuel, 21, has been with the Shrews since August, having spent the whole of the last campaign on loan at Rotherham United.

Shrewsbury manager Sam Ricketts told Shrewsweb Emmanuel couldn't be guaranteed regular football with the Shropshire side: "We agreed it would be better for him to go and play every week and we couldn't guarantee him that so we agreed to let him return to Ipswich. We wish him all the best in the future."

The academy product, who has been back training at Playford Road this week, made 18 starts and two sub appearances for the Shrews but last appeared in a League One match on December 22nd.

Emmanuel's last first-team appearance for the Blues was as a sub on the final day of the 2016/17 season as Town were beaten 3-0 at Nottingham Forest.

The Londoner, who was with West Ham's youth set-up before joining the Blues, is out of contract in the summer but with the Blues having an option to keep him for a further season.

He is not considered the answer by the club and i although i do rate Josh and consider him better than Spence by a long way, i agree he is not the answer to where we are now. He will be going out on loan again, personally i would prefer Spence to go out on loan!

I live in Shrewsbury and have seen him played a few times I kept a eye on him and he seemed Ok one of the better Salop players but firmly league 1 standard imo

Loving Paul Lambert so far but my one criticism would be how long it took him to realise Spence is absolute toilet. I know he had to wait until Jan to sort something, but he would have been better off playing anyone else (himself even) at right back in the mean time. Hopefully both Spence and Knudsen will be sold and relplaced in the coming days......if not I'm sure they will be in the summer. Really glad Lambert has committed his future.

I thought Emmanuel looked a different ( much improved) player at the start of this season , albeit in the pre season friendliest. But then Hurst loaned him out and that was that. I don't think the lad would let himself down if he did play for the first team. But agree he's probably not a regular 1st teamer.

Welcome back Josh, a year and a half of solid game time under your belt, including a Wembley appearance, must fill you with pride and confidence. Do your utmost in training and show PL your worth.

Not good enough to make the team at league 1 level but somehow people think he is a top class player. How can someone be a top class player as some think he is when he is third or fourth choice at a lower level???? Potential is one thing reality is another.

I'm confused why everyone thinks he hasn't been playing at Shrewsbury. He's started 18 and come on as sub in 2. That's nearly all of their games this season. Sounds to me like Shrewsbury have a budget issue and in order to bring other players in, they need to lose some. Not that they should have a budget issue with the HUGE amounts of money they got from us in the summer!!

Maybe we are bringing him back to sell to some one?

20 games is still a good amount of football, he will be fit and refreshed after a few weeks of rest, lets hope he gets a chance in our team

Not sure why there seems to be so many differing figures for his appearances? The shrews website says he has made 13 starts and 1 sub appearance while quoting others as starting 26 Games.

Although he is not the answer now I do believe had he have started for us instead of Spence I do think we would have more points on the board, only my opinion of course.

Surely better a better option than Spence? But then again so's my Mum.

Certainly has the potential to be a right back or perhaps a centre back. It is worrying that even Shrewsbury could not accommodate him. The same thing happened with Nydam at St Jonstone.

Let us all hope they can step it up and be regular town players. Time is running out on contracts though.
