Lambert: Time is Pressing On, We Have to Start Winning Games
Tuesday, 22nd Jan 2019 13:13

Boss Paul Lambert admits the Blues have to start winning games soon with the season pressing on and Town bottom of the table, seven points plus goal difference from safety.

The Blues, who have 18 games in which to save their Championship status, were beaten 2-0 at Lambert’s former club Blackburn on Saturday and face another of his previous sides Aston Villa at Villa Park at the weekend.

“Football can kick you in the teeth when you are down like it did at Blackburn at the weekend,” he told the club site.

“That’s the game though. You can’t get too high or too low. You just have to go again and we will be doing that in training this week and on Saturday.

“The games are coming thick and fast and time is pressing on. We are trying everything we can to turn it around here but we have to start winning games.

“One hundred per cent we have to do that. We have to keep everyone onside and do everything we can to build up some momentum."

Start by dropping some of the ‘undropables' - Sears especially

Still have to play Villa, Norwich, Derby, Stoke, WBA, Hull, Sheff Utd & Leeds. The only side as dreadful as us we have to play is Bolton (and they still have hope!).

Seems to be a bit of a dab hand at saying one thing and doing another

........ will certain people understand that Sears is once again being played OUT of his preferred, and undoubtedly best position. Currently back to MM likeness in terms of Freddie, he must be sharper tho' than he currently is tho'- he is a confidence player, and drops the head easily.
Since singing his praises early on, PL has moved him out wide....... to no effect.

Personally, time is needed and will tell obviously, but the new system with the Huddersfield recruit in the middle is not impressing me so far.

However, we must believe in PL to come up trumps with his plans, team formation, and eventually results.

League 1 - start the rebuild thinking NOW - otherwise time will be wasted.

Sears playing out of position is because he's not performing in his preferred position ie scoring goals.

........ in the middle Freddie is always capable of collecting scraps from midfield and heading for goal - many strikers do not operate in such a way, and expect midfield to supply them. Sears best position, and role, by far.

Creative midfield ? - simply we do not have one, and haven't had for far too long.

I appreciate we have lacked a goal threat and have one of the lowest tallys in the league. However, playing with 3 forwards on the pitch is not the solution. Play Keane and Sears up front(irrespective if thats a 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2). Then play a MIDFIELDER.....wait for it........IN MIDFIELD. Its no good stabilising the defence with Collins (and hopefully a right back) if they face a weekly onslaught because the Midfield are outnumbered/outplayed. Asking Sears to track back..............and then get forward to support Keane and the ineffectual Quaner is equally ridiculous.

......... inghamspur - forgotten something ? - he was when in the middle i.e in PL's early games for us.

Maybe you weren't there to see it happen ?

To be honest playing the defensive midfield patterns isn't working , so why not just go all out attack BIshop, Huws, Dozzel , Lankester etc ... if theyre ready to play maybe its the "football" injection the team needs ?

no sh@t sherlock. start by dropping the vastly over rated Skuse from our midfield.

Sort the midfield out.. they don't protect or create! We've played Skuse and Chalobah together all season and we've leaked goals and created jack all. My midfield would be Downes Bishop Skuse Judge or Huws. And I would put Lancaster and Keane up top. Come on Lambert go knee deep, we've got nothing to lose!

Drop sears ? It was the fact that sears wasn't on his usual wing position that Blackburn were getting all of the joy down that side. Judge isn't a winger and got caught on the ball almost giving away one opportunity and both times we were done for pace down that side. Judge isn't a winger, ok sears isn't either but he's been made into a work horse by micma
And who would have been tracking back if on that side.

How people can still defend sears is beyond me! regardless if he's in the middle or out wide, I got to a point I accept his shots aren't going in and haven't got a chance. The fans that just sit behind a keyboard will definitely agree. accrington Stanely for one.

Sears, on the left or up front is a league 1 player at best. Has never really offered a great deal since joining from Col U.

How many coaches would drop a striker who doesn't have the combination play necessary to play lone striker? He doesn't have the bulk either to play upfront on his own. And pretty much 99% of modern teams do not play two strikers, unless you have some special players

If you look at Sears stats whilst he's been with us they are nothing short of awful, and the bloke is inconsistent. Plays well for a few games then disappears. Feel for Lambert, he has done his bit installing belief into everything ITFC and the players just ain't stepped up. If we go down I'd get rid of most of them, specially the old guard who are now continuously sh!te imo
