Chambers: It's a Big Challenge But We're Getting Stronger
Wednesday, 6th Feb 2019 20:37

Skipper Luke Chambers admits it’s a big challenge for the Blues to escape dropping into League One but believes Town are getting stronger as the January signings reach match sharpness. The bottom-of-the-table Blues are eight points plus goal difference from safety with 16 games left to play.

“It’s strange, given where we are in the table, that there is such a good vibe about the place. The manager has to take a lot of credit for that,” he told the club site.

“With the players we have brought in, there is a lot more experience in the squad and we still believe we can get out of the mess we are in.

“We are playing well and the fact that we haven’t got the points I think those performances warranted makes it even more galling.

“I speak to my dad after games and I feel like a fraud sometimes. I tell him how well we have played but ultimately you have to win football matches and we have not done enough of that this season.

“It’s a big challenge to get out of it but we are getting stronger. The players we have brought in are getting that match sharpness.

“I look at some of the clubs around us and I think we have more to offer and there will be a game when everything clicks and we win by two or three.

“Hopefully that will be the catalyst and we can go on a run from there because when we have won games this season, we have never followed it up. Every game now is a cup final though. That is the situation we are in."

Chambers is hoping to return to the team facing Norwich in Sunday's East Anglian derby after missing Saturday's home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday due to a foot injury sustained the previous weekend at Aston Villa.

Here's a novel idea, let's only support our club when we're winning. Oh, I see most of you are already doing that

Karlosfandangal Hurst only had 14 games in charge; Lambert has had 15, the Millwall game Klug was in charge, I think 25 points could do it, I am not seeing enough to suggest we will get those points, sad but true,

There may be a good vibe about the place amongst the players but that in itself may be part of the problem. Too many perhaps content to be in league one ? I do not doubt the work rate or Chambers sincerity but we are not playing well enough. With the four bottom teams all struggling anything could happen but football is about scoring goals and we have not done so all season. Lambert remaining next season is the only ray of hope and I will be there.

If this is us playing well then I'd hate to see what happens when we have an "off" day....

I get what the club are doing but no need to do it twice. Certainly the PR team are monitoring the response (might even be responding for all we know). Must realise this wasn't the best move. 3 wins since Hurst took over, the fans aren't interested in being wound up.

Perhaps herein lies the problem? Maybe the players are believing their own hype? Show us all on Sunday that you're all up for the fight, give us something to cheer about and we might just start believing you!

"I feel like a fraud" and "every game is a cup final" are the only two accurate statements within this article. Fine, stay positive and believe its not too late but please, be honest and admit there hasn't been enough fight and endeavour on the pitch!

Can't the captain, manager and owner grow some balls and admit we are going down. Ideally personally till the end of the season, play woolferdon (sorry can never spell his name) along side Collins. Emmanuel and kenlock at full back. Should've got an experienced central midfielder for the rest of midfield with perhaps Ben Morris or folami when fit up front with sears. Almost give harry Wright a few games. Not a defeatist but let's get real here, it's just not happening is it.
Ps I've never been to Fleetwood.
Pss On another note let's all Colchester get promoted. That'll be cold and Southend as 2 easy away games next season for me. 👍👍. Relegation isn't all that bad lol

Silly comments, but quite normal from chambers, good vibe around the place, well I'm sure all the time you are being paid for underperforming there will be.....oh no we lost again, oh well no penalty in the pay packet would be the thought of many at this club.

Knowing the PR at ITFC, now is the time to send round a survey to see if 1/ Bluey is doing a good job 2/ The pies are the right price 3/ If the kit looks nice 4/ Shall we play Hey Jude etc and all that other peripheral garbage when all we want is success on the pitch.

I cannot see when we will win another game. I dont believe we could beat any of the 91 other league clubs at this moment in time. Next season could well be a complete disaster in league 1. We have no fight, no creativity, no goal scorers, cant defend. Lambert talks the talk, but can he walk the walk? And as for Evans, well, that man has been a liability since day one.

There would be no club in the world in our position who's players wouldn't try to put a spin on a poor position. Until we are mathematically down then the spin will be the same. Imagine if we did actually beat the Nodge on Sunday, it could well spark the so called "Good performance but no points" spin into something tangible perhaps.

Points for winning = 3
Points for good vibe round the training pitch/dressing room = 0

Shots on target last match = 3
Stop the PR and start playing football on the pitch

It's one thing saying we're feeling good, but then to come out and say "there will be a game where we win by 2 or 3" is really just taking the piss
