Sears Out For Nine Months as Town Suffer Another ACL Injury
Monday, 11th Feb 2019 13:13

Striker Freddie Sears has been ruled out for at least nine months having sustained a cruciate knee ligament injury during Sunday’s 3-0 East Anglian derby loss at Norwich City.

"Sears, 29, was subbed just before the break following a challenge with Tom Trybull with a scan confirming he damaged his ACL.

“The scan has confirmed a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee,” Blues physio Matt Byard told the club site.

""“He will see a specialist later this week who will determine the timeframe, but it’s likely that surgery will take place in the next two weeks.

“We will know more from the specialist but with this type of injury, you are looking at nine to 12 months recovery.”""

Sears added: “I’m obviously devastated but I want to thank the fans for their support yesterday.”

The injury is a big blow for the Blues’ already fading hopes of avoiding the drop with the former West Ham and Colchester man having scored six goals since Paul Lambert took charge in October.

Town recently took up an option to keep Sears at Portman Road for the 2019/20 season.

Already sidelined for a similar length of time with cruciate injuries are midfielder Grant Ward and striker Ben Morris, while another young frontman, Ben Folami, is out for a similar period with an achilles injury.

Midfielder Andre Dozzell missed all but the first 45 minutes of last season with an ACL injury suffered on the opening day.

Midastouch, good to see somebody applying a little sense and reallity to our situation. Most of all let's learn from our mistakes this season. Give Lambert time and he will fix this. Lets not see another very capable manager part company with us as McCarthy and Burley did.

I honestly think this could be see the emergence of Ellis Harrison. Maybe Kayden Jackson. They both showed good signs amd i still see them as good prospects just needed a run of games and more chances. Ellis was obviously unlucky with the injury. Gwion Edwards should be back soon too. I do see Keane,Harrison, Judge, Edwards, Bishop being a good threat just need the run of games and the right system. Not sure i like the 3 up front.

The rest of this season is pretty much a write off, but to lose Freddy for most of next season as well is a real kick in the teeth. An in-form Freddie would tear up most League 1 defenses.

Can this season get any worse!! What a disaster!! Feel really sorry for Sears he's been our best player this season & really our only goal threat. Sad news all round.
Norwich beat us prob send us down & now loosing our best player for the rest of the season. Thanks Norwich you scumbags!!
It's up to players like Edwards, Jackson & Dawkins to step up now, then again none of them have had the game time like Sears. Maybe go 4-4-2 now with maybe Nolan & Judge out wide & Harrison up top with Keaneo.

Wish him a speedy recovery, probably our player of the season. Not only did we lose 3-0, but lost a key player also.

Doubt they will bring in a free transfer as a replacement because of where we are in the table. Midfielders like Joe Ledley are available but play in different position to Sears and on high wage.

The only glimmer of light, albeit as bright as the other side of the moon, has been snatched away from us! This season has been absolutely savage, get well soon Freddie fingers crossed you'll be here when you recover!

Absolutely savage and feel sorry for Sears. The equivalent for Norwich fans would be losing 3-0 to Ipswich and in the process losing Pukki to injury. Horrible time to lose the only glimmer of light this season.

Very sad for Freddie as finally playing in his proper position & finding his scoring boots again. Goodness knows where a goal might come from now??! Hopefully he will manage to come back ok.
