McCarthy: Keane Out for Six Weeks
Wednesday, 27th Feb 2019 18:23

Former Town boss Mick McCarthy, now in charge of the Republic of Ireland, says Blues striker Will Keane will be out for six weeks with the hamstring injury he suffered at Wigan last Saturday and won’t be available for his side's March internationals.

Keane has recently opted to switch international allegiance to Ireland, where his father was born, having played for England at various youth levels.

"That was a straightforward one,” McCarthy told RTE when asked about the progress of Keane's qualification ahead of the March European Championship qualifiers against Gibraltar and Georgia.

“I rang him up, [he said] ‘Yeah, I’d love to’, he’s started the process [of transferring] and he is in that process now, and he’s sadly out injured. He got injured on Saturday and is out for six weeks.

"He was straightforward in going ahead with the process. Look, he is only 26 and is still a young man but has been blighted by injury and is sadly injured again. I’ve seen him play twice for Ipswich, and he played very well.”

Yesterday, current Town boss Paul Lambert said the club should have a better idea of the extend of Keane’s injury before the weekend.

Keane’s absence will be a big blow for the Blues with the former Manchester United youngster having been in impressive form with his penalty at Wigan his third goal for Town.

Well... we tried, so dissapointed, with Keane, I thought we might just do it but maybe Guarner will step up

Think that's it folks, and I have been so sure we'd stay up

Over to you Collin Quaner lol!...as for McCarthy well! I honestly think we're doomed now with these injuries mounting up (if we weren't beforehand).

Good to see Mcarthy conducting himself in his normal professional manner we became accustomed to. One day he might get over himself. What a bitter man.

Worst thing this club ever did was appoint McCarthy as manager.

"Mick, you're a liar … you're a f*cking w*nker. I didn't rate you as a player, I don't rate you as a manager, and I don't rate you as a person. You're a f*cking w*nker and you can stick your World Cup up your a*se. The only reason I have any dealings with you is that somehow you are the manager of my country! You can stick it up your b*llocks."

Roy might have been crap for us, but he was spot on here.

Nice to know I'm not the only one that thinks McCarthy has done this deliberately !

...... told you so - last we'll see of Keane, I guess.

As for the cretin that's reared it's head again - he doesn't even warrant a comment.

....... the only interest that MM had in Ipswich Town FC, was his Salary, and annual bonus for retaining Championship status.

Laughing all the way to the Bank, and doing nothing more than the necessary, to preserve the above, for as long as he could.

He was no True Blue - and NEVER would be.

McCarthy could wait to open his mouth and break the news. did it on purpose, could have waited until after the Reading game. Very disrespectful of Paul Lambert and ITFC.

He would have been fuming if it was the other way round. It is obvious Lambert didn't want to reveal his hand to reading just yet.

MM, what a to$$er.

Saxonblue, we all knew in reality it was 6weeks out, like you said anyone including yourself knew that. It was just McCarthys 'innocent' snipe at ITFC.

And lets be clear I have never been a McCarthy hater, I felt and still do that the did a decent job here.

However, I do think he has over stepped the mark here.

Warkys Tash. He 1st over stepped the mark with me when he kept saying Dougie was super and fantastic.
And went on to pick him every game.....LOl.

The majority of comments on this story are ridiculous.

He was asked a question, he answered it.

Well said Elto. A sensible opinion as always.

If MM knew this info, you can guarantee the Reading manager (Gomes) knew it anyway.

Did anyone, including the Reading manager expect Will Keane to come trotting out on Saturday as fit as a fiddle ???? Dear oh dear !

Shock horror!

Irish manager tells the truth about one of his squad members!

Unlike P.R Paul?

Still, at least the majority of fans aren't coming across at all bitter and twisted....

Oh no...

Can't help but think that this 'huge' story was slipped on the site for a reaction. It's been a very quiet few days on here with little to report. Were the advertisers fearing they weren't getting their money's worth perhaps? 😂

If it helps, I shouldn't have thought Reading were quaking in their boots whoever they faced. Even if they were aware that this was our 4th consecutive winnable game 😂

Elto and PJewellisagod, absolutely right. As important as this site is to us I'm not sure MM tunes in daily to catch up! His job is as Ireland manager now and I'm sure all issues at PR are not top of his agenda. If he does have a chip on his shoulder, and I'm not saying he has, who could blame him? His treatment from a small minority toward the end of his tenure was more akin to that usually reserved for "the enemy" at Carrow rd! Forget about him and move on whatever your opinion of him, just as he has. It really is a shame that the vast majority of chat about this article is about MM when the real issue is the confirmation of Keanes expected spell on the sidelines, another nail in the coffin which was probably already firmly closed!

Never mind. Not sure if it's me but Keane does look a bit on the delicate side. For him I hope I'm totally wrong

he could of and should of said, regarding WK, we are waiting for confirmation, he did it on purpose and loved it!

There was a reason the club was holding out to make this announcement, MM would not have been impressed if the other way around!

So glad he has gone, we now have a manager who loves the club and the fans, every week he praises the fans and it is i believe very genuine and sincere!

ME made a big mistake in extending his contract, MM did very well in his first 2 seasons and should have ended there!

Elto etc. I understand where your coming from regarding the comments on this article. But if it proves one thing.
MM leaves clubs in a sad, twisted, devided state. Followed by certain relegation. Therefore the sad, twisted, devided comments above are to be expected.

Woke up this morning and thought...

I'm really excited about the Scunthorpe fixtures.

Also hoping Forest green get promoted from league two.

Wonder who we'll lose to in the 1st round of the cup next season?

Histon town? Tamworth F.C?

It's exciting isn't it? 😒
