Skipper Chambers Linked With Chicago Fire
Monday, 4th Mar 2019 16:18

Town skipper Luke Chambers is reportedly a target of MLS side the Chicago Fire.

According to the Daily Mail, the Fire are keen to add a central defender to their squad with Chambers said to fit the bill both from a playing and financial perspective.

Chambers is out of contract with the Blues in the summer but with the club having an option to keep him for a further season.

Manager Paul Lambert recently said he had spoken to his captain, who joined Town on a free transfer in 2012 after leaving Nottingham Forest, about staying at Portman Road beyond this season, stating that Chambers, 33, and Cole Skuse, 32, both have a massive part to play in the club going forward.

He added that owner Marcus Evans is also set to talk to the one-time Northampton defender about his future.

I think he'd make an excellent fireman, after his defending Saturday he is due a change of career!

Would make sense for him. Would be sad to see him go but I think Saturday proved to me that his legs have gone now.

Be a good move for him and his family, (please take your premiership class mate with you) while he has been a great leader at our club his performances have waned in the last couple of years(playing right back did not help!!)and this season have been dire, and there is no way he could cope in Div1 which is full on helter skelter

Let him come to America and make some money, then go back to Ipswich to start his coaching career. I think it's time.

Then we can really move on with purpose.

Chicago is awesome! Great bares and Sunday breakfast at Nookies.

I'd be there in a flash.

Often put under the microsope in circumstances materialising from actions and incidents beyond his control : and sadly let down by inadequate defending by those around!A man of quite the sort of character it would be good to see continue .
We do however need better quality football intelligence throughout the squad ,and it would be very good to see more action resulting from instinct / second nature !
I'm sure PL will have influence here .

Suffolkboy Are you Chambers?

Do hope so. That's one liability we won't have to shoehorn into the back four at all costs. Club needs a root and branch reboot and I'd start right there.

Probably fake news. This club needs a MASSIVE clear out and i wish Mr Chambers & co good luck. They will love his fist pumps over there .

Whether you are LC fan or not (it's undeniable he has cost us more goals than we'd ideally like in recent seasons with numerous defending errors) I do wonder if his wages might be a tad high for League One so it could well make good sense for both parties. I'd welcome LC back at Portman Road should things pan out like that as a coach or possibly even a future manager one day. He seems a natural leader and he might well be suited to coaching or management after he finishes playing.

Has desperately been trying to fill the man-management and leadership void at this club for years, lately to the detriment of his own performance as Lambert has stated, yet is vilified for it by many so-called "supporters".

One of the most worthy captains to ever pull on the shirt and will be sorely missed when he's gone.

I can't believe how blind some people on this page are, or there are alot of arm chair supporters on this site. Chambers has been one of our best defenders for years, as well as his continuous leadership, passion and comittment that's he has for the club. No other player shows they care for the clubs results as much as him.

Yes he's getting old and his legs are going. But he has been let down by some many other poor players around him. We need him in and around the squad to show other players the passion and commitment they should have to pull on the town top.

Sad to say but it is clearly time up on Luke Chambers....Sears....Skuse ....Ward.....Spence......and Knudsen. All had a good run at this club and NOW it is time to build a new fighting unit around our better young players. If Paul Lambert does not see that then it is time to visit spec savers. League one football gives us a chance to build a small settled squad and a regular team. You have made a few million out of this club Evans and now it is pay back time with finding good young players to compliment ours.

This could be his agent putting pressure on ITFC to sign a new contract for him.

Personally I think it's time for Luke to go.
He does a lot off the field but the last 2 years have seen his legs go and his
distribution is nowhere near good enough for the attacking team we need to build.

Will miss the fist pumps though.

Might be an ideal situation for all concerned. An absolute servant to the club but

Good move all round if it happens...couldn't take another season of such mistakes in league one.

At the end of this season, I think it's time for all parties to move on. We will need to rebuild and Chambers will Quite rightly be looking for a good contract for a year or two to see him through to retirement. We shouldn't begrudge him that.

i'm not one of his biggest admirers but i think this would be a good move for him and his family. you can never fault his commitment to to ITFC and his passion, especially as he's still playing with a broken wrist and his foot is still not properly healed, which to be fair is more commitment to the club than some on of the players but unfortunately that does not win you games or stop the ball from going in the net and he has been at fault for a few of the goals just recently, that's not to say he has solely been to blame as you can point a finger at a number of players who have gone missing when really needed. if he does go then i will be sad to see him eave but in the long term it could be what the team needs a clean out and a fresh start and hopefully a bounce back from league 1 at the first attempt.

Watch the 2 goals again from Saturday. Lots blaming Chambers, but where was Elder in the build-up to both the goal. Chambers left on his own. For the first goal, it looked as if Collins legs had already gone, and four defenders all running towards the ball (as in scholboy football).
