Judge: We'll Probably Sit Down in a Few Weeks
Wednesday, 13th Mar 2019 17:30

Midfielder Alan Judge says he expects to sit down and hold talks with the Blues regarding his future in the next few weeks. The 30-year-old has been Town’s standout performer since joining the club during the January transfer window for a nominal fee from Brentford on a short-term deal which runs out in the summer.

Quizzed on his future beyond the end of the season following last night’s 1-1 draw at Bristol City, Judge said: “We’ll see what happens. At the minute it’s just me playing every game and I’m enjoying every minute of it at the moment.”

Judge’s short-term deal includes an option which he has previously said is “more in the club’s favour”.

He added: “We’ll probably sit down in a few weeks. I think they’re the same as me, they just want to get me playing. I want to play and we’ll worry about that when the time comes.”

The Republic of Ireland international isn’t ruling out remaining with the Blues even if they are in League One next season, as now seems all but certain to be the case.

“You just don’t know,” he continued. “Many things come into my head. I’m playing — I haven’t played for two or three years.

“I feel like I’m getting there, back to my best. At my age it’s about playing. I’m 30 years of age but have plenty of running left in me.

“I’ve had two years off so that hopefully means I can play to 35 or 36 now. When the time comes to sit down, we’ll sit down.”

Reflecting on yesterday’s match, he added: "If anything we're slightly disappointed because for large periods of that game we were the better team.

"We were on top for the first half an hour or so and annoyingly gave away a sloppy goal but we didn't panic. We know we can score goals and it was a great bit of skill from Myles to help get us level.

"We're playing well right now and I would say in the last six or seven games we haven't got what we deserved but we'll keep plugging away.

"And it's good to be a part of because we're playing good football. It's my kind of football, we're not just going route one, we're getting on the ball and trying things.

"Once again it was incredible support from the travelling fans and I'm pleased we're giving them something to cheer at the moment.”

He is too good for League 1 - unfortunately he will be on his way.

Surely Judge is one of the experienced pro's to keep to create the right blend of youth and experience to the team. Worth paying him championship wages as it looks like half the team will be players that have come through the academy, which is great!, but surely that allows 2 or 3 experienced players to be on championship wages.

We might be in a better position to sign him than most think. He is worth more now than when we took a punt on getting him back fit but we are also playing him in his favorite position, week in week out. The big hitters in the league all have someone in that mould who he would have to compete with. The also-rans might offer him a bit more but he might fancy a go at getting a team up with PL in charge. Seems to me his priority is playing. Blue tinted glasses maybe but I fancy he will sign for next year.

Personally. I think there is little chance of him staying - he is a Championship player, at least.

Would love to see him stay, but would be very surprised if it happens.

Don't wrap your head around him too much - you may be disappointed in doing so, if he had aspirations of staying with us, he would have said so, and made the current situation that much clearer.

Long shot of him staying.

....... if he plays until the end of the season with us, he will have achieved his objective, and knows it will have put him in the shop window in terms of offers from elsewhere.

Again I think the time is right to get some kind of commitment from him now, otherwise what is the benefit of us playing him ? - when we could be playing someone who will be here next season.

As with certain others.

Really clever, industrious and technically gifted player. We have not seen the likes of him at Ipswich for many a year. Reminds me a lot of Wes Houlahan, who was also an excellent footballer but somehow sat on the bench for Norwich whilst they went into freefall!

I hope we can find a way to keep him at least until Christmas. May have to offer him a release clause to keep him cos he is too good for league 1. Maybe if we are sitting top 4 on Jan 1 we can keep him longer. Fantastic influence for the youngsters.
