Blues Linked With Tranmere Striker
Sunday, 17th Mar 2019 09:40

Town are reportedly showing interest in Tranmere Rovers striker James Norwood, currently the highest scorer in the top four divisions.

According to the EADT, the Blues are keen on the 28-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer.

Norwood has netted 27 times for the League Two side this season having bagged 23 last term when they returned to the EFL via the play-offs following three years in the Vanarama National League. He scored the winner in the 2-1 victory over Boreham Wood in the final.

Eastbourne-born Norwood, who is 5ft 9in tall, was a youth player with Brighton, Crystal Palace and hometown club Eastbourne Town before breaking into EFL football with Exeter, with whom he made three starts and one sub appearances.

During two years with the Grecians, he also spent time on loan in non-league at Sutton United, Forest Green Rovers and Eastbourne Borough, before joining the Green Devils on a permanent basis in 2011.

Following his release by Forest Green, the seven-times-capped, four-goal England C international joined his current club in the summer of 2015.

Speaking about his future earlier in the season, Norwood said: “I’m not too sure. I love the club, love the lads, love playing for the gaffer. My head’s here. I’m here until the end of the season, and I just want to be a part of something at this club.”

Don't know too much about him, but that clip certainly shows that he is a finisher, something we are crying out for. The type of goals he scores would certainly transfer to Division 1 level & with the quality we are likely to provide him with in that league next season, I think he'd be a good shout.
Had we a goal scorer of a forward in the side over the last 6 weeks, I'm convinced we'd be 8 or 9 points better off now & certainly within touching distance of safety.

As the resident Tranmere following Town fan, I can honestly say I don't know how I feel about this. Great goal scorer in both non league and league two, but by all accounts a bit of a “lad” who likes a beer and upon promotion last season went missing on a two week bender. Showing up at various fan parties and eventually being found doing karaoke in a bar in Greece (not sure on country)

I would love to see Brett Pitman back at PR next season.
Trust in Lambo and the goals will come.

Interesting post Baltacha, goals wise is exactly what we need. The last bloke we got from Tranmere, did ok.

On a free got to be worth a shout for sure. There is a pattern here, its what he did when he signed Grant holt from lower league.

Interesting point about he's attitude would be a gamble as the move would either go two ways for this sort of player, he keeps his head down, trains and becomes the next Jamie Vardy or the move goes to his head and he party's excessively. Definitely a gamble and not guaranteed to be a prolific scorer at league 1 level, but sometimes you have to make gambles especially on our budget.

Not many forwards are consistant! If we have scouts anymore would like to see them find a unknown wonder

Here we go...as per last summer really, many were saying how good Jackson and Harrison were, waiting for the posts in a couple of months when we get in a league 2 player and say 'what great business this is'...anyway more importantly if we went in for Norwood where are the funds coming from?...oh yeah forgot from selling one of our rated players.

Not sure about this one. Suppose his wage wouldn't be huge. May be worth a punt but would have to be a short contract for me.

Timmyh he is available on a free! Have you watched the highlights real?

And the reason so many signings didnt work out he changed the whole at once with lower league signings was going to be impossible for them to shine like that!

And this is the sort of signing we can expect, free a gamble and from the lower leagues,

I do expect Jackson to do well in league 1, probably his standard tbh

"whole Team" should say

Well if he's on a 'free' grab him!...just the sort of purchase Evans will love whilst selling Dozzell or Bish (probable not definite)...anyway most players can look good on a 'highlights' real what about his lowlights?

And Timmyh i agree with most of your posts, however You were negative over the judge signing, but you did say that you had seen judge( before we signed him) and he was nowhere the player he was or am mistaken? Anyway looks pretty good to me! You were Negative then and you were very wrong!

Agree with you anyone can look good on a highlight real but the fact remains you could probably put all the goals of the last 3 seasons for town scored by every town player and it would not as good or be as long long!

No need to be negative over everything, is there?

Bluejake78 Pitman is a great shout would like to see him back at the club. Shouldn't of sold him anyway. This guy sounds decent though. With the current injuries to our strike force who knows who we will have next season. Go get him Lambert.

should say," would not look as good or be as long"

Of course just because he is out of contract does not mean that he is “free”, just means that we don't have to pay a transfer fee to the club. In practice there would be many other payments; agent, salaries etc.
I still fear a fire sale over the summer.

And also Timmy i am thinking you didnt even read the article before you commented, otherwise you would have known he is available on a free!!!

There will obviously be comparisons with Jackson and Harrison. However, the season before we signed those two they scored they scored 16 (L2) and 12 (L1) goals respectively.

This guy has scored 78 goals in 156 appearances for Tranmere. A goal every other game is excellent at any level

Nope didn't must admit...what club let's a player run down his contract if he's half useful?

Actually Timmyh i love your assessment of players, if you condemn them they turn out to be good signings as i recall several didnt rate Pennington before the season started, easily the best player in a town shirt!

I love it, fans knocking players they nothing about before they have even kicked a ball for us, let alone signed.

We could start a new thing on here, dont knock players we know very little about, before they even kick a ball! that could be really novel, cant see it catching on though, people love to moan.
