Blues Linked With Tranmere Striker
Sunday, 17th Mar 2019 09:40

Town are reportedly showing interest in Tranmere Rovers striker James Norwood, currently the highest scorer in the top four divisions.

According to the EADT, the Blues are keen on the 28-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer.

Norwood has netted 27 times for the League Two side this season having bagged 23 last term when they returned to the EFL via the play-offs following three years in the Vanarama National League. He scored the winner in the 2-1 victory over Boreham Wood in the final.

Eastbourne-born Norwood, who is 5ft 9in tall, was a youth player with Brighton, Crystal Palace and hometown club Eastbourne Town before breaking into EFL football with Exeter, with whom he made three starts and one sub appearances.

During two years with the Grecians, he also spent time on loan in non-league at Sutton United, Forest Green Rovers and Eastbourne Borough, before joining the Green Devils on a permanent basis in 2011.

Following his release by Forest Green, the seven-times-capped, four-goal England C international joined his current club in the summer of 2015.

Speaking about his future earlier in the season, Norwood said: “I’m not too sure. I love the club, love the lads, love playing for the gaffer. My head’s here. I’m here until the end of the season, and I just want to be a part of something at this club.”

Could see him get a hatful of goals if he has someone like Quaner(who is impressing me more and more) holding up the ball for him, so get them both in and then we have Harrison and Jackson which would be enough to give Div1 defences nightmares.

Sorry therein61 can't agree that Quaner could hold up anything for anybody. He's nearly the tallest bloke on the pitch most games, doesn't win any headers and never wins a 50-50 because he'd rather not compete in them. We need a centre forward who is tall, can win headers, can hold the ball up to bring others into play and is a good finisher with an eye for goal and gets stuck in. A real problem for centre halves. Quaner is just tall. No idea what Norwood would be like in Div 1 but the defences in the video aren't that good. It will be interesting what ME's budget will be given to Lambert in div 1. Given he starved the club in the championship.

Yes TimmyH. They probably will be. Or you would hope they would be. That's not to say they would be fit for the second game in....

Evan's and MM made some serious cock ups as a pair for many years.
But the signings of Huws and Tom was right up there.
Considering they each earn per week what the average town supporter earns grafting for 5 months......and to think there still under contract to keep milking it in for the forseeable future. Is just shocking. I don't blame the players....just the decision makers.

Please, please, please!!! We need a proven goal scorer. Keane and Quaner have previously scored what? about 5 goals each in 100 games or so...

Cressy came from Tranmere and he went on to play in Premier league.

Agreed Robsonwark, and one of the best natural players to pull on a town shirt in past 20 years.
But unfortunately you get a Cressie once in a hundred players.

Radletblue how do we know anyone will do better, we dont ! WE HOPE, I havnt heard of this player but i wouldnt knock him . People are very quick to judge players, normally in a negative way [TimmyH ] Just because they are not household names, I cant believe how many pseudo managers there are on here that know all there is to know about every player that is ever mentioned LOL. My concern about this story is that [if true] we have shown our hand ,

YES PLEASE... BUT can we leave it till the end of the season as I am on him to be top Div 2 scorer at 33/1 for this season. Him, Jackson, Harrison, Lancaster with a posse of strong young quality midfield behind them could take all of them to new career heights. Maybe Keane, Judge and Chalobar on loan again (Hes not going to play at Chelsea) and it would tempt me to become a season ticket holder again as long as ME does not take the piss with pricing.

Certainly looks an instinctive finisher.

Don't even think about signing him, I mean who knows? He could end up picking up a serious injury and be out for months and therefore would be a terrible decision to sign him!😂😂😂 Unbelievable!

Oh and while I am at it, ED SHEERAN please buy the club!! It would be more fun than having that pitch in your back garden.

The most interesting part of this story is that England still have "C" International's.

If there is any truth in this, at least it means we are looking to address the obvious problem we have at the moment.

Possibly one or two young German players in the summer with Lambys connections over there?

Saxonblue74. You miss the point, as usual.
Do you sign a player or players with a lengthy injury history.
Put him or them on long contracts, making him or them amongst the highest earners at the club??
You might, but isn't advisable.
This Tranmere lad has no injury problem history....glad that's cleared up🙈🙈🙈😜😜😜

Saxonblue74. Therefore considering Huws and Tom had a past that involved more time on the treatment table than on a football pitch.
The decision to make them amongst the clubs highest earners on long contracts, was shocking.
Possibly the poorest signings the club have made for 10 plus years.
Big balls up by MM to go with many others.

We're gonna be in division 1, some people are gonna have to reset their expectations of what constitutes a possible and decent deal... Personally happy with a gamble on a striker with a decent record and a few issues. Mostly though I hope we build around a nucleus of our promising youngsters and add more young promising talent to that. If it takes a bit longer to return but when we do we have a squad knitted together who have grown together and bought around a common philosophy then all good.

Razor. In all his time in management. Lambo has yet to call on “connections”.
And is yet to bring over a player from Germany.
I know he played for Dortmund, but he doesn't appear to have any contacts to help our cause. Unlike Farke, and Wagner who do appear to have connections on the continent.

Yes please.
My concern about Jackson is that he is playing 2 leagues higher than where he was last season, and the speed of the game in the Championship requires strikers have a great 1st touch, which Jackson hasn't. What I like about Norwood is that he hardly ever seems to need a 1st touch, for most of the goals on the reel his first touch is smashing it into the net.
At 28, if he wants to make any money form football, he needs to get his head down and step up a level. Could be a good move for both him and us.
