Bowman Joins McCarthy's Staff as Ireland Win in Gibraltar
Saturday, 23rd Mar 2019 19:31

Town director of football Dave Bowman joined former Blues manager Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor on the Republic of Ireland bench as they beat Gibraltar 1-0 in their opening European Championships qualifier this evening having taken on a role as a technical advisor with the FAI. Blues attacker Alan Judge was an unused sub, while ex-Town striker David McGoldrick created the winning goal for Burnley’s Jeff Hendrick three minutes after the break.

The 58-year-old has been given permission to take on the part-time position with Ireland while continuing his duties with Town.

Bowman joined the Blues in 2012 after McCarthy took over at Portman Road having previously worked with him at Wolves, Sunderland and during his previous stint in charge of Ireland.

Effectively the club’s chief scout despite his job title, Bowman remained at the club after McCarthy’s departure and now works with current boss Paul Lambert on recruitment.

We understand Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce recently showed interest in taking Bowman, who is out of contract in the summer, to Hillsborough.

Ireland host Georgia in their second qualifier at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Tuesday when Judge will hope to win his sixth full cap.

I bet he wouldn't have got on the plane if offered a point against the mighty Gibraltar! As it is a thoroughly brilliant 1-0 win ...

As long as he keeps Alan Judge sweet and he spots some talent in this role .Hopefully town will benefit from his jaunts !

Sunday papers have Mick quoted as "hating every minute" of the Gibraltar game. Interesting to see how this type of motivation talk impacts their performance against Georgia.

Also once a blue, always a blue. Great to see a mini reunion of old boys and to see how some of the current crop perform on the International stage.

Oh dear, read this just to see the vile comments from the "we hate Mick" brigade and I have not been disappointed. If you want to see the ugly side of football just look no further than reading the comments on this site

I presume that Mr Bowman has been at least partly responsible for our muddle-headed recruitment strategy over the last few years, so the sooner he goes the better.

Actually i think it was Bowman who successfully negotiated the bringing in of Waghorn and Garner , though Mick took the credit, i am wondering if this might compromise his position here in any way?

Yea I don't understand why this website continues to ever post McCarthy stuff. He has nothing to do with Town, we've had 2 managers since then.

Why does this website keep posting stuff about him? really bizarre.
