U23s Confirmed in Play-Offs
Tuesday, 2nd Apr 2019 17:23

Town’s table-topping U23s are now confirmed in the Professional Development League Two end-of-season play-offs after second-placed Coventry drew 1-1 with Sheffield United this afternoon.

Only Crystal Palace, currently third, can catch the young Blues but Gerard Nash (pictured) and Chris Hogg’s side appear certain to win the division with the Eagles eight points behind with only three games remaining.

Town's U23s are next in action against Leeds United, who have already won the Professional Development League Two North title and thereby securing a play-off place of their own, at Elland Road on Monday evening (KO 7pm).

The top two teams in the South and North sections of the Professional Development League Two take part in the play-offs to find an overall winner.

Town’s U18s, who also currently top their league, confirmed their place in the play-offs at the weekend.

They should be next seasons management team in my opinion, who else better to bring the lads on and understand their strengths and weaknesses. Nash is Ipswich to his core.

My thoughts also, if Lambert is not with us why not give Nash a chance.....he has learnt a lot over the past 2years and also knows the youngsters coming through who are already playing in the first team. Nothing to lose.

If Town win their League and beat the winners of the other league, what league do they move up to?

Nash and Hogg, under the guidance of Brian Klug have always produced a good footballing, mostly winning U23 team. Despite who have been available to them, be it 1st team squad players returning from injury, or on the other hand, having to use younger players to fill the gap, as the better players move through to the 1st team squad. If Paul Lambert was to move on, I would have great faith in this duo, provided an older head came in, as Director of Football, a Joe Royal that would have the connections for possible loan players, if required.

A very impressive goal difference compared to the rest.

They should have been given the first team last summer. Might have hung on to some of the players who left. You know, the ones that scored goals? We used to have players like that once. Dyer and Atay could perhaps step up and we'd start our own bootroom culture.
