Chambers: We'll Be Seen as a Scalp in League One
Tuesday, 16th Apr 2019 13:51

Town skipper Luke Chambers says the Blues will be among the favourites to be promoted from League One next season and as a result will be viewed as a scalp by other clubs.

“There is a great group of players here, a lot of good young ones as well and the challenge for everyone here is to get straight back up,” Chambers, who picked up the Player of the Year award on Saturday, told the club site.

“We will start the season as one of the favourites to get promoted. We will be seen as a scalp. That will bring pressure because we will have to deliver. That’s where the mentality of a footballer comes in. Can you deal with that?

“It’s important when you are a player that you learn from every experience. I’ve been around in the game a long time but this season has been a learning curve for me.

“It will be the same for the other players, especially the young ones. They will be better for the experience in the long run.”

Bookies SkyBet have already priced the Blues at 7-1 to become League One champions next season.

Sorry. Only idiots will think we are favourites. No chance. Top half yeah but no where near the top end of the table.

I don't bet and never will but those odds look very attractive. Chambers is right, we will be the Leeds of League One with clubs upping their game against us. Better get the shin pads out !

"That's where the mentality of a footballer comes in. Can you deal with that?"

You've been Captain Leader Fraud in the following...

No FA Cup wins in your time here
Lowest finish since the 1950s x2
No wins vs our rivals in your time here

So, NO you can't deal with that pressure. An absolute fraud of a man and a very poor Centre Back.

Doubt it. Haven't we played against some of these sides in the cups and lost every time?

Have to agree FrimleyBlue.

Bert, why do you think we'll be the Leeds of League One? We have a team of youngsters, an owner who jhas just said he won't be investing in the squad and we're bottom of the table by some distance.

We might be one of the favourites, simply because relegated teams usually are, but that's the only reason I can think of.

I'm not ruling anything out, and I'm happy with how we've been playing but so many fans seem to think League One will be easy, I suspect they'll be in for a shock.

We certainly need to get back next season because a long stay in League One is the last thing the club needs.

Only about a third of relegated clubs manage to make it back at the first time of asking so it's not going to be as easy as some seem to think though.

Chalo-bah, interesting that you seem to think all of those records are Chambers' fault (and by 'interesting' I mean 'ridiculous').

You may not rate him as a centre back, that's up to you, but to call him "a fraud of a man" is completely out of order and based on zero evidence as far as I can tell.

It's so easy to abuse people anonymously on the internet, and the world is a much worse place because of it.

If we can get the right striker in we will be challenging.

Shropshire, the right striker or a striker at the right price (cheap!) That's the main thing!! 👍🏻😀

We re not that strong, thinking we will be up their with the favourites is disrespectful to the other League teams near the top (who we would probably lose to now). Yes we have a decent crop of youngsters but lets please remember that U23 football is a massive step down from first team football (Southampton and Bournemouth's U23s couldn't win local Hampshire football competitions against step 9 Wessex league sides). We need better players to be competitive at L1 level. Something we didn't get this season in the Championship so I'm not holding my breath.

We have a long way to go to be considered worthy of the tag of favourites. I hate the way so many people, including some at the club who should no better, are disrespecting League One.

It will be a time to stand up and be counted. Not just for the players

At present, I think any League One club will view as a potential 3 points rather than a scalp.

Relegation was not even a close call and we've won just two games in 2019. Yes, there is positivity, the playing style is better and the harmony around ITFC seems better on and off the pitch, but until we sort out all the things that got us relegated, we're way off getting promoted from League One.

I'm all for remaining positive but talk of promotion before the basics get sorted is madness.

It is the bookies who make us favorites and they have a canny knack of being right - hopefully.
They were this year when they made us favorites for relegation.

If only,we have 2 players that would of probably been influential in midfield missing for a lifetime,Huws Adeymi, what a waste of money they sadly turned out to be but here's wishing them fitness, there 10 goals, a striker or 2 with 20 ish goals simple possibly half those draws would be wins and a third of losses draws,we all know what we have to have I know Lambert knows what he needs, let's hope he finds them ,anyway next season I,m looking forward to my return for a few games,no more neck brace required

The bookies have made us favourites because they don't know the other teams in next year's division. If Sunderland fail to get promoted I'd expect them to be favourites.

Let's think about next season.

All the loanees/short term signings will go except Judge.

For differing reasons I can see Bart, Spence, Knudsen, Dozzell, Adeyemi and Huws leaving as well.

That means a squad which looks like:

Keepers: Gerken, Wright, ?

Defenders: Emmanuel, Cotter, Kenlock, Webber, Chambers, Nsiala, Donacien, Woolfenden

Midfielders: Edwards, Nolan, Skuse, Bishop, Nydam, Rowe, Ward, Downes, Judge

Forwards: Sears, Jackson, Harrison, Lankester, Folami

Rather thin and I can't see where reinforcements are coming from.

Well we all know that Luke, if we perform like we've done in recent years in the FA Cup and particularly League Cup we ain't going nowhere fast.

We may just have to look at any relegated team, they struggle, promoted sides kick on as we did in the prem.
I expect Lincoln will be strong.
But at least we have a month extra to prepare.
Getting a winning mentality is going to be our biggest problem!

We have a manager who has engaged wirh the supporters and got them onside, he has told ME what needs to happen regatfs loans etc. He has done a fantastic pr job, no question. BUT, he was called upon to try and save us from relegation, he has failed, the results have not improved although performances, I feel if we are not top 3 by the end of September the mood will change. I like PL he's enthusiastic and very keen, but so was Eddie The Eagle!

When do these guys ever learn. Firstly they are like a damaged record. Repeating the same old tosh. Secondly, with comments like this, it's like your lining yourself up to be shot at. Would've thought that his made comments similar to this before on a regular basis and fallen flat on his bum.
I've no problem with being confident, but please don't go spouting your mouth of. Sometimes a little less talking and a bit more doing is required. We are in mess (lets not hide that fact) of which over a number of seasons mr chambers has been part of it.
My point is, I don't want to hear that Ipswich are going to do this that and another. It's a results industry like any other. If you don't perform your down the road. End of.
