Chambers: We'll Be Seen as a Scalp in League One
Tuesday, 16th Apr 2019 13:51

Town skipper Luke Chambers says the Blues will be among the favourites to be promoted from League One next season and as a result will be viewed as a scalp by other clubs.

“There is a great group of players here, a lot of good young ones as well and the challenge for everyone here is to get straight back up,” Chambers, who picked up the Player of the Year award on Saturday, told the club site.

“We will start the season as one of the favourites to get promoted. We will be seen as a scalp. That will bring pressure because we will have to deliver. That’s where the mentality of a footballer comes in. Can you deal with that?

“It’s important when you are a player that you learn from every experience. I’ve been around in the game a long time but this season has been a learning curve for me.

“It will be the same for the other players, especially the young ones. They will be better for the experience in the long run.”

Bookies SkyBet have already priced the Blues at 7-1 to become League One champions next season.

This non stop negativity has to stop! i would far rather our position now than any more mcarthy football .... probably we will need some steel to add to our youngsters maybe a midfield hatchet man for league 1 but generally i fully agree with saxonblue74 .Also must be noted that pl has got team out of lg1 before

I do agree that it'll be tough physically Blueboy, I've said it weeks ago when the call for our youth to be "blooded" for lge1 was coming from all and sundry. That said, a closed season of hard graft for 18 - 20 year olds can change players massively at that age. I've seen lads unrecognisable, boy to man in weeks! I'm sure PL has the experience of this league to guide us in the right direction.

Saxonblue What Evans says is one thing what he does is another matter,he has failed repeatedly to recognise weaknesses ,Please dont say the manager will point them out and he will take heed, managers have been saying these things for years, and have had to sit back and bite the bullet. Evans is not savvie in running a football club ,he came into it as a chancer, has failed and has overseen everything that has gone on ,no escaping that , and now we are where we are .

If the bookies make us one of the favourites for promotion in August when all the managers and squads are known, that should be seen as a compliment but it could put extra pressure on us. I would rather stay under the radar. I would also expect Luke to be playing down our chances publicly, rather than saying how strong we will be and maybe giving the young players the impression it is going to be easier than it is.

Dirtydingusmagee, would normally agree with you there but feel a change since PL joined. I think my (perhaps blind) faith has been cemented by the Judge signing which I see as a statement of intent.

For the life of me I can't understand why we aren't changing the captaincy.
It's crying out for change in that department.
Win percentage over 60/70 games is abysmal.
Can't understand how anybody is over confident for next season, carrying on as per.
This hasn't been a blip, it's gone on for to long. New onfield leadership is needed, but looks like it won't be changed, which I find odd.

Whining key board warriors.....blah, blah.....once a blue, always a blue, through thick and thin...through troubled waters, you get your head up ...who's faults this, who's faults that...I'll be there next season and loving it.....something new, a different challenge, always up for it....for all you malcontents, blistering whingers, try and find something positive, find a way to look at our situation in the affirmative.... do you know what, you might even like it!!!!

There is enough ability in this squad to outright WIN Division 1, the problem lies in the 'mental state' of players! It really is time to shake the squad up, like McCarthy did when he was appointed ! At present all I've seen from Lambert is niceties, time to snap out of the arm over the shoulder and blast a few home truths!

Nobody can tell me no Division 1 clubs wouldn't want to add the following to their midfield and attack,
Sears
Edwards
Jackson
Harrison
Judge
Nolan

Add the following potential,
Bishop
Nydam
Downes
Lankester
Dozzell

If Evans allows the manager to add 3 more proven pros, I can't see any excuses not to WIN league! Bridging the 'gap' between Division 1 and Championship is another debate....

Agree that youngsters need to grow a pair blueboy, but so do our slow mistake ridden seniors who have cost us dear this season going through the motions.

It's the senior payers that have taken the club down.
They needed to step up and failed miserably....shamefully.
