Town Cut Season Ticket Prices But By How Much Depends on How Many Sold
Wednesday, 17th Apr 2019 11:10

Town have cut their season ticket prices for the 2019/20 season, their first in the third tier for 62 years, but by how much depends on how many are sold, while the cheapest adult matchday tickets have been reduced from £25 to £23.

Most season tickets have been cut by an initial 12.5 per cent - for example, an adult lower tier season ticket costing £381 this season will be £333 if renewed for 2019/20 - while Family Enclosure tickets are down 15 per cent.

But the club has also introduced what they call Town Targets, which will see prices drop by a further 10 per cent on last year’s price - that adult lower tier seat would be £295 - if 12,000 are sold before the early bird deadline of May 6th, 15 per cent if 13,000 are sold - £276 - and 20 per cent - £257 - if season ticket numbers - currently 10,200 - hit the 14,000 mark before the deadline.

In addition to the reduction in prices, all supporters who buy a season ticket before the first day of the 2019/20 season will have their ticket frozen at that same price if the Blues are promoted to the Championship for 2020/21.

“We spoke with a number of supporters to gauge their opinions and carried out a survey before finalising our prices,” Town’s general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill told the club site.
"
“We are expecting to lose close on £9 million in revenue for next season so it’s a balancing act between protecting season ticket revenue and getting the price as low as we can. We hope supporters think we’ve got it about right."

“With season ticket prices dropping 10 per cent last year and between 12.5 per cent and 15 per cent for 2019/20 - and perhaps more - there has been a significant decrease in price over the last two years.”

Manager Paul Lambert added: “I’ve been privileged to have played for some big football clubs in my career and seen some fantastic support.

"What I have witnessed from the Ipswich Town fans since I’ve been here is right up there with anything I’ve experienced in the game.

“I was out on the pitch after the Birmingham match. We’d just been relegated but the noise and support from the stands was unbelievable. I had to stand there and take it all in. It was incredible. Incredible.

“That’s why this club will be alright, because of that support. It might not seem like it at the moment but we’re in a really good place in a lot of ways.

"We’ve got some really good young players here. They will need time to develop but the potential is there. How good can they be? We will find out when they are given a chance — but they will get that chance. That’s the direction we are going in.

“There will be changes to the squad in the summer. That’s only natural. The loan players will go back, other players will leave and we will look to freshen things up.

"We have an idea of where we need to strengthen and the challenge next season is to bounce back. It won’t be easy for certain. It will be a tough league and we will be a scalp for clubs but that’s the target.

“We have a long term strategy here and it’s not just going to happen overnight but we have to start somewhere — and it starts now.

“The signs are there. We have played really well in a lot of games this season. The potential is there. It’s going to be exciting and sometimes you have to take a step back to go forwards.

“Other clubs have done that in the past. That’s the aim for us but the number one factor in why the future is bright for the club is the fanbase. Your continued support is absolutely vital.”

In further comments from the letter partially released on Sunday, owner Marcus Evans said: “We have dropped the price of season tickets for next season by between 12.5 per cent and 15 per cent, with further cuts of an additional 20 per cent if we reach target figures for take up.

“There is a substantial drop in club income from other revenue streams so we have to protect season ticket revenue but with season ticket prices dropping 10 per cent for 2018/19 that takes us to a minimum 22.5 per cent decrease in price over the last two years.

“In addition, if we are promoted back to the Championship next season, we will freeze prices for 2020/21 for those who purchased season tickets for 2019/20 before the first day of the new season.

“I’d like to thank you for the fantastic support you have given Paul and the players this season. It’s been a really tough year for everyone connected to the club but the atmosphere created home and away has been one of the highlights.”

The initial 12.5 per cent drop will see an adult season ticket holder in one of the lower tiers pay £14.47 for each of Town’s 23 League One matches, while senior citizens in the same area will pay £10.22 per match, under-23s £7.65 and under-19s £3.91.

In the Family Enclosure the initial price cut means an adult and three children under-12 all renewing can watch the Blues for a total of £19 per game.

The club are also continuing their interest-free 12-month Direct Debit payment scheme with current season ticket holders who pay via this route automatically renewed for 2019/20 unless they tell the club otherwise.

Town have also linked up with local businesses to offer discounts to season ticket holders as part of the ITFC Rewards scheme."

Match ticket prices are also down to £23 in the lower tiers (£25 this season) and £27 (£30 in 2018/19) in the upper tiers, aside from the central areas of Cobbold and Co-op stands.

"Season tickets will go on sale from 9am on Tuesday 23rd April with the full price list here.

"Season ticket brochures will be available at the turnstiles at Monday’s game against Swansea City at Portman Road."

Does strike me as that great a deal. A quick look around at other league one clubs and we are still amongst the highest price, with these reductions.

Karls Dad.... keep fighting fella, you'll always be with us in spirit.

On ticket prices, I think its fair. Like many if I lived close enough I'd be there but its just not possible.

Get down there if you can, easy for me to say I know but PR is amazing when its rocking. Sounds like our youngsters will finally get game time and we've been crying out to see that, so now if we can, we should!

I'll try and get to any away games nearish me..

jdtractor96 yes you will have to pay the adult price. It is your age at the start of the season.

I'm sure that when we were in the Premier League, a high number of casual supporters came to see the opposition. In the Championship, who we were playing was irrelevant and it will be in League One. I go to 100% support my club and team and I'm sure that for most people thinking of renewing or coming back that will be the case. My ST next year at £18.50 per game is what I pay as a minimum at local theatres, an exhibition in London or 4 pints of beer. At Col U you would pay roughly the same depending on where the seat is, witness a stadium two thirds empty with an almost silent crowd and have trouble parking. I know what I prefer.

Many thanks to all with your good wishes, but reality and my consultant have told me today that my condition is gathering momentum!! So unlikely to ever see the Beats statue, not our rise from the ashes of league three, but we will get there for sure, I know it! Keep the faith, support the boys! Make that noise!!
I have managed a few home games this season, loved every minute! But my illness is what it is! Can,t change anything! So on the chin it is!
All I hope is that you all keep the faith, our Mr Lambert is the man to guide us.
Once again many thanks. Coyb!!

100% renewing. Excited for next season already. Everything in place. Wouldn't it be great to have 15000 season ticket holders and the ground packed out? Any waiverers, I hope this deal removes any doubts. COYB!

To everyone practically sucking ME off because he's dropped prices in line with league one... Come on!! You lot are so easily pleased! It reminds me of the freebies to share holders which people were going head over heels about! It's like someone running over your dog then saying it's ok mate, cheer up, I bought you a goldfish! We are league one because of ME ffs, league ONE!!! Lets see if he coughs up decent funds to secure the players we need to bounce straight back up, that will be the acid test...

I assume being a season ticket holder gives you an edge when it comes to away tickets? Just think... we'll be able to stand at a good few grounds. I'm excited!

BlueArmy 81 hows your FB group going...63 members and yourself speaks volumes so just for once pipe down. If your that offended by the offer don't get one and keep away from PR. We really could do without such constant negativity.

Lots of fairly positive comments on here for once, but question.... are there any contributors to this site who gave up their season ticket in the last two years and are thinking of getting it back under this offer????

Just interested to know because if it is true that we need to go from 10,200 up to 14,000 season ticket sales, it is going to have to be from those that have given them up in the main??

Cotton eye, I sincerely hope the group dies a death in the future as Evans either sells or turns over a new leaf and starts backing the manager properly, trust me. I fear neither will happen though and we will end up sorely disappointed next season in which case the group will rightly grow exponentially. We will see...

Been reviewing the top League 1 scorers this season Tom Eaves 19 goals for Gillingham and John Marquis also 19 goals for Doncaster, both 26 (the ideal age) and both with much smaller clubs so they would probably see Town as a step back up the football ladder having played for Bolton and Millwall respectively in the past. The leading scorer is Collins for Luton and therefore he will be playing Championship football next season, but the other two are fairly sizeable lads in 6.1 and 6.5 so could be a good target man replacement for the big lad going back to Huddersfield? Lambert also likes a big target man (we all hate KFC sponsored Grunt Holt) for example but he did a job.

Thoughts all as Lambert likes to do his business really early?

Wooly74, I think the prices alone will not be enough to bring season ticket holders back in their 1000's. I do feel encouraged by a number of factors that combined may just do the trick. Promising youth and more entertaining football (which will turn to winning football) will also help. All the right noises are coming from PR, the difference for me being Paul Lambert. My opinion is that he is the driving force and Evans is listening. Say what you will about results not being good enough (agreed) but the job in hand is a sizeable one. I truly believe that if Lambert had been appointed instead of Hurst we would be challenging in the championship. I don't think there will be any significant departures over the summer, Judge signing gives me confidence on that score. I'm usually very cynical when it comes to this but somehow things feel different. Faultering anti - Evans campaigns and positivity resulting from this news article bode well. With the majority on side we will succeed. Call me delusional if you like, just an educated hunch!
